THINGS TO DO IN JUNE :

JUNE 5 & 6: RED BULL AIR RACE, WINDSOR RIVER FRONT PARKS

T U E S D A Y ,

Well, as you can all see the Guild is making great strides forward! April‟s meeting was a stupendous success thanks in part to Don Martel‟s words of photographic wisdom.

Thank you to the Executive Committee for their hard work in getting things up and running. It takes volunteers to run this Guild and we‟ve got great ones on board. Don, I don‟t know how you did it alone!

As you know, we strive to keep the Guild an “open forum” type association so if you have prints to show, or would like to discuss a particular photography topic, you don‟t have to wait for an invitation. Become a better photographer Welcome to our monthly ‘How to’ series. A little know-how, top tips for great pictures

GET DOWN ON THEIR LEVEL * Hold your camera at the subject‟s eye level to capture the power of those magnetic gazes and mesmerising smiles. * For kids and pets that means getting down on their level to take their picture * They don‟t have to look directly into the camera, the eye level angle by itself will create a personal and inviting feeling. USE A PLAIN BACKGROUND * Before taking a picture, check the area behind your subject * Lookout for trees or poles sprouting from your subjects‟ head * A cluttered background will be distracting while a plain background will emphasize your subject USE A FLASH OUTDOORS * Even outdoors, use the fill flask setting on the camera to improve your pictures. * Use it in bright sunlight to lighten dark shadows under the eyes and nose, especially when the sun is directly overhead or behind your subject * Use it on cloudy days, to brighten up faces and make them stand out from the background. MOVE IN CLOSE * To create impactful pictures, move in close and fill your picture with the subject * Move a few steps closer or use the zoom until the subject fills he viewfinder. You will eliminate background distractions and show off details in your subject * For small objects, use the camera‟s macro or „flower‟ mode to get sharp close-ups TAKE SOME VERTICAL PICTURES * Many subjects look better in a vertical picture - from Eiffel tower to portrait of your friends. * Make a conscious effort to turn your camera sideways and take some vertical pictures
