Hello... Welcome to your How To Do magazine! This is the summer issue so you’re going to find lots of things to keep you busy come rain or shine during your summer holidays. make a funny face

You will need: Some photos of your friends and family Some laminate or acetate sheets Dry wipe markers Kitchen Roll
1. Print out some photos. 2. Put a laminate sheet over the top. 3. Use the markers to draw funny faces. 4. Wipe off with the kitchen roll. 5. Start again. 6. See who can draw the silliest face! 11

Top Tip We think that a pair of sunglasses are the ultimate accessory if you’re in a band. Pop on a pair and you’ll look and sound super cool. What will you call your band? Write your band name here ----------------------------------------------------

Shaker You will need: Rice A Smarties tube Sellotape Glue Lots of decorations!

1. Half fill your tube with rice. 2. Sellotape up the top. 3. Glue on lots of decorations. 4. Let the glue dry, then SHAKE!

Drums You will need: Tins/cans/jars Balloons Scissors Pencils/sticks

1. Get an adult to snip the ends off of your first two balloons. 2. Stretch them over the top of the tin or jar, make sure your adult has checked that there are no sharp edges! 3. Then get your adult to cut some holes in your second two balloons. 4. Stretch the balloons over the top of the first balloons. 5. Experiment playing your drums with lots of different drums sticks, with your hands, upside down - however you like!

You will need: Coloured card String Scissors Glue A pencil
1. Draw out a guitar shape and cut it out. You’ll need one big circle, two small circles and a rectangle. 2. Glue on the big circle in the bottom part of your guitar. 3. Cut four lengths of string. 4. Glue the ends of your string underneath your small circles at the top and your rectangle at the bottom. 5. Let the glue dry and then rock out!

turn rocks into MONSTERS
You will need: Smooth rocks or stones Paints A thin paintbrush A fat paintbrush Googly eyes Glue

1. Paint your rock all over with the fat paintbrush. 2. Use the thin paintbrush to add in details like a nose and a mouth. 3. Glue on a googly eye. 4. Experiment with making all sorts out of your rocks. 5. Show us what you came up with online! 25
recycle old cardboard tubes

Binoculars You will need: Toilet roll tubes x2 Black Paint Paintbrush PVA glue Black card Gold or silver card String
1. Paint both toilet rolls black.
2. Once dry, glue them together (you might want to peg them to help keep them in place).
3. Cut a strip of black card and wrap around the bottom of the binoculars. Tape or glue in place at the back.

4. Cut a strip of gold or silver card and wrap around the top. Tape or glue in place again.
5. Attach some string so you can keep the binoculars around your neck.

1. Sellotape the photos onto the tubes. 2. Stand them up.

Pull out this page and get an adult to cut out the mask for you. Then you can colour it in or use it as a template to make a fabric one. Get an adult to help you to make a hole at each side and attach some string or elastic to keep the mask in place while your busy being a superhero.

play memory with ice lollies
You will need: Lolly sticks x 12 Scissors Sellotape Pens and Pencils The lolly templates provided

This game would work best with two players but if you want more people to join in you could simply make more lollies. Also, make more lollies if you want the game to be more difficult!

1. Design your lollies! You should have two of each, so six different designs all together. Only draw on one side and leave the other blank. Get your adult to cut them out for you.
2. Tape your lolly sticks to the back of your design. Fold the lolly template in half at the centre line and fold in the tab. Secure with some sellotape so that your lolly stick is sandwiched between the patterned side and the blank side.
3. Put all your lollies pattern side down and MIX THEM UP!
4. Now take it in turns to try and find the pairs by turning over two lollies at a time. If they match...keep them If they don’t match...turn them back over and try to remember which lollies are where. Most pairs wins!

You will need: A bucket or a big bowl 125 ml washing up liquid 2 l water Pipe cleaners to make bubble wands A jar/tub/bottle to put your bubbles in 48
1. Mix together the water and the washing up liquid. 2. Make your pipe cleaners into bubble wands, try out different shapes and sizes. 3. Put your bubbles into a jar or bottle and see how many bubbles you can blow at once. Our record was 15, see if you can beat it!

1. Turn on the music.
2. Warm up with stretches.
3. Start dancing like a robot. Move your arms and legs in a stiff way and do a little ‘pop’ every few beats.

You will need: Lots of paints Anything you can find! To make your own finger paints you will need: 3 tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup corn starch 1/2 cup water Food colouring

1. Combine ingredients in a saucepan, warm until the mixture thickens. 2. Let it cool then pour into some containers. 3. Add food colouring to get the colours you want. We went with primary colours RED, BLUE and YELLOW because you can make most colours from these three 4. Now use these to paint. No paintbrushes allowed!

make lemonade
You will need: 1 cup sugar Lots of lemons and a juicer to make 1 cup fresh lemon juice 1/2 cup hot water 2 l cold water 1 lemon sliced

Adding some cranberry juice to make your lemonade pink OR Juicing some limes as well to get a lemon and lime drink
1. Juice your lemons.
2. In a big bowl or container (enough to hold over 2 litres) put the sugar and hot water and stir until the sugar dissolves.
3. Add the lemon juice and the cold water and stir well until mixed.
4. Serve your lemonade with a slice of lemon in your favourite cup and share it with your friends and family on a summers day. 59

You will need: 200g unsalted butter (softened) 300g caster sugar 1 egg 275g self raising flour Splash of milk Sweets or fillings and flavours

1. Whisk together the sugar and butter until the mixture is creamy. 2. Mix in the egg. 3. Add the flour and all of your fillings and flavours (and sweets!). 4. If it looks a little bit dry, add a splash or two of milk to make the mixture more of a dough. 5. Line your baking sheets and divide your mixture up into balls. 6. Get your adult to pop the cookies in the oven to bake for about 10 minutes - they will still be gooey when your adult takes them out but will stiffen when they cool and be nice and chewy! 7. Eat them with a cold glass of your homemade lemonade and share them with your family and friends! They’ll love them!

Why not try... We went for smarties and milky bar buttons this time but we also love oatmeal, raisin and orange or using 75g of cocoa powder and milk and white chocolate chips to make double chocolate cookies for a special treat! 63
make real fruit ice lollies
You will need: Ice lolly moulds Blender For 6 banana and pineapple lollies: 2 bananas Small tin of pineapple and juice

1. Prepare the fruit by chopping it up etc. 2. Blend the fruit and the juice until smooth. 3. Pour into the lolly moulds. 4. Freeze! 5. When they’re frozen...eat them!

make an easy peasy rocket launcher
You will need: Scissors Paper Pens and Pencils A bendy straw Thread Cocktail sticks Sellotape

1. Fold a piece of paper in half and cut out a rocket shape so you have two. Draw in the details. 2. Cut lengths of thread. 3. Sandwich the thread and toothpick between the two rockets at the bottom end.Tape into place. 4. Place the toothpick in the short end of the straw. 5. Take a deep breath and blow into the other end to see your rocket lift off!
Make a few rockets, get some friends together and see who can make their rocket go the furthest!

grow grass hair
You will need: Tights Compost Grass seeds A flower pot (yoghurt pots will do!) Things to decorate with

1. Put 2-3 tablespoons of grass seeds at the bottom of some tights. 2. Add lots of compost until you have a nice sized ball and tie a knot at the bottom of the tights. 3. Glue on some eyes and add some decorations. 4. Add some water to the flower pot. 5. Put your grass head into the flower pot. 6. Place in a sunny spot. 7. Watch the hair grow and give it a trim every so often. 8. Make sure you keep the head moist but not too soggy. 69

You will need: Marbles A tube cut in half (ask your adult to do this!) A box Start and Finish posts 70
