When we were too tired to venture out of the hotel for dinner, or even to the grocery store to pick up supplies… it was time to call Rancho del Sol. As one of two pizza delivery options in Grand Case (“livraison” en francais), they quickly became a favorite. They bring hot, fresh, tasty thin-crust pizzas direct to your hotel door in less than half an hour. Like Domino’s… only DELICIOUS. The one problem is they are closed on Saturday nights, and for some reason, this was a common hangover day for us.

Pros DELIVERY. Seriously. Tasty, thin crust pizzas Beautiful views, mellow atmosphere on top of the hill overlooking Orient Bay
Cons Quality food, but nothing extra special about it; Not walking distance
Food at Rancho del Sol Did I mention they DELIVER? One of the few restaurants that we found who did, at least on the French side, and this endeared them to us forever. Rancho del Sol’s menu is extensive, and caters to a variety of palates.

They offer everything. From pizzas (definitely a highlight) to salads (also proven tasty), to huge steaks and burgers, and dare I say it, I think they even have some Mexican food, like quesadillas. An impressive menu, especially for a place that delivers. The Western and rodeo pizzas are our favorites, though we haven’t sampled all of them by any stretch. My mom and I finally crashed at the very end of our whirlwind restaurant sampling and decided to order in for our last Grand Case meal. ! Rancho del Sol was our go-to choice, and an awesome choice it was. ! Within a very short time we were chowing down (funny how the aroma of good food revives even the tiredest of travelers) on crunchy pork nems (i.e., spring rolls) and crispy pizza, both of which arrived hot and tasty, having survived their trek.! I did have to repress my Berkeleyingrained horror at the styrofoam container for the nems, but I was too hungry to object. The food lived up to its reputation, and we were happily replete with very little physical effort on our part. !And isn’t that the point of food delivery?

DELIVERY! Rancho Del Sol gives great delivery, just remember they aren’t open on Saturdays.

Hot & crispy: Delivery didn’t kill the crispy.
Atmosphere at Rancho del Sol On the main road, north of Orient Beach, before you hit Anse Marcel or Grand Case, you will find the Rancho Del Sol restaurant. You may have already eaten there several times before you make it to their actual restaurant, and that’s OK. You aren’t missing out if you have them deliver, though they do have some beautiful hilltop views of Orient Bay. The one time we stopped by Rancho del Sol to actually eat there (after all, we figured we had to see where our food was coming from), we had a lovely late afternoon snack. It was relatively quiet in the unassuming dining room, with almost 360-degree views up on the hill above Orient Bay. Outside, we lingered at the outdoor couch, attempting to photograph the hummingbirds and panoramic view while we sipped our second glass of wine. Not a care in the world. This seemed like a great place to bring the kids, given the extensive menu options, and the casualness of the dining room.

Something for everyone: Menu has all kinds of different fare, heavy on comfort food. When my mom and I attempted to return during our trip, just after perusing the Marigot market, we were stymied by their odd choice to be closed on Saturdays.
Service at Rancho del Sol These guys give great delivery – we never had to wait more than a half hour, and this was during high season. As I said, my only complaint is they aren’t open on Saturdays. When we ate on site, the service was fine, though typically French in their unobtrusiveness. If we had been in a hurry, we might have had complaints… but it was mid-afternoon, and we were on island time, so who cared? When we decided to while away the afternoon outside, taking pics of the humming birds and sipping our sauvignon blanc, they didn’t bat an eye.
Bottom line After an exhausting day at the beach, when everyone is feeling crispy and the kids are imploding (or your husband), there’s nothing like fresh, fast delivery from Rancho Del Sol. Comfort food at your hotel door. Brilliant.

ABOUT LUCINDA’S LIST In Fall 2009, my husband Steve and I thought we had it all figured out. Beautiful house in Berkeley, CA, the requisite yellow lab, great technology careers... and I was pregnant. But when the fourth miscarriage hit in December, we were heartbroken. We needed time to heal. A break. From everything. We decided to go to St. Martin, and after an incredible six weeks, it inspired us to change our lives. The people we met, the experiences we had, the living in the moment, the food we ate... we were forever changed. And we wanted to share what we found with others. So instead of returning home to our old lives, we decided to take our Silicon Valley knowledge to help create a community of people who love the Caribbean. We figured something special was bound to come out of bringing together
