London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. London is the largest city in Europe. In 1666, a small fire started in a bakery in in the City of London. It lasted for four days and over 13,000 houses were destroyed.

Over 8 million people live in London.

A polar bear, an elephant, an alligator, lions, and kangaroos used to live in the Tower of London many, many, many years ago.

Red is the colour of LONDON.

There are 850 art galleries throughout the city. Museums are free. The Queen’s guards stand outside Buckingham Palace and their hats are called the Bearskins.

Heathrow in London is the world’s busiest airport. It has 2 runways and another one on its way.

London Zoo opened in 1829 and has an amazing penguin pool. It was home to George, the tallest giraffe who was 19.3 ft tall.

Over 500 years ago in Medieval times, animals were brought into court, and sentenced by a judge for any mischief or damage they had caused.


The Queen lives in Buckingham Palace. It has 775 rooms. 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms and 78 bathrooms.

More than 300 different languages are spoken in London. The telephone boxes were painted red so that people could spot them in the street.

The tallest building in London is The Shard at 310 meters.

All police officers wear a black uniform. There are over 15,000 police officers in London. Some police jobes include a helicopter pilot, horse trainer, nurse, and a photographer.

London Bridge does not have towers. Tower Bridge does. The River Thames flows through London. It has over 20 islands and is 250 km long.

English people love drinking tea with milk. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world. The London Underground is known as The Tube.

In Harry Potter, Dumbledore has a scar shaped just like the London Underground map on his knee. The Houses of Parliament has 1,000 rooms, 100 staircases, 11 courtyards, eight bars and six restaurants.
