About the Programmes This suite of postgraduate programmes is designed to prepare and develop students for careers in the Human Resource Management (HRM) or Human Resource Development (HRD) professions. The philosophy of the programme derives from the principles of reflective practice and experiential learning, or using the CIPD term, we are developing 'thinking performers'. The programme, therefore, combines academic, professional and personal development. As a graduate of the PGDip/MA HRM or PGDip/MA HRD you will have gained an in-depth knowledge and understanding of HRM or HRD while placing these disciplines within a wider organisational and contextual framework. You will be able to understand current issues and thinking along with techniques applicable to research in the subject areas and will have acquired both theoretical and applied perspectives. This will enable you to apply a range of specialist skills to the organisations in which you as an HRM or HRD specialist are likely to operate. PGDip/MA Human Resource Management The course is designed for people who are interested in advanced level study in general human resource management - whether they are working in HR roles within organisations or employed as external consultants. PGDip/MA Human Resource Development The course is designed for people who are interested in advanced level study and in developing employees, managers, leaders and organisations - whether they are working in HRD roles within organisations or employed as external consultants.

The Business School runs an annual programme of events in collaboration with the CIPD and students on this programme will benefit from access to these extra-curricular opportunities throughout their studies.
Swansea Business School Exemptions for holders of CIPD postgraduate qualifications Holders of CIPD postgraduate qualifications may be offered exemption from a significant proportion of the MA programme enabling them to ‘top-up’ to a Master’s degree in a shorter time than the full MA programme. Please contact the Programme Director for further information about exemptions and Accreditation for Prior Learning (APL).
