LUCY TRUMAN Lucy is a renowned international illustrator who has enjoyed a varied and successful career in advertising, design, editorial and publishing markets. Her journey began straight after leaving art school, from Loughborough University, where she immediately started working as a commercial illustrator. Upon graduating, her work was critically recognised with the AOI Gold Award Images Competition in the student category. This enabled her to gain exposure and enter the illusive world of a being a commercial artist. With a contemporary, expressive style, she draws her subjects with movement and fluidity. Line and colour play a big part in her art, whether the art is of a beautiful fashion drawing or indeed a building. Each drawing encapsulates her way of seeing and what is left out is as important to her as the details she chooses to engage with. Lucy’s recent travels to California and Paris have given her lots of inspiration and have led to new colour experimentation. The California light was instrumental in her travel sketchbook, inspiring her to play with colours and bold mark makings. Her love of both Hockney and Warhol have shaped Lucy’s style throughout her life as an artist. These inspirations from the 1960’s art and illustration scene are where her passions lie. Aside from the art from this period, Lucy adores, and is continuously inspired by, the films, design, music and literature of mid century popular culture. The importance of elegance, stylistically and thematically, is an integral part of Lucy’s work, employing retro beauty with a whimsical twist.
