Surrealism

I chose the theme surrealism as it allowed me to go into depth with experimental photography and become more playful with the different techniques I could use to generate the images for this theme.

The theme of surrealism also allowed me to be more experimental with different ways of working such as photography, photoshop and working outside of technology.

My main idea under the theme of surrealism is that I could explore around the idea of making my images appear distorted, giving me a wide range of possibility's off what I could create within the project, and so I experimented with different techniques such as projection, photo manipulation and slow shutter photography

One of my ideas was to project different images a n d p a t t e r n s onto a subject, to distort how the person appears

Neuroticism Â

A mental or personality disturbance not attributable to any known neurological or organic dysfunction. A number of my experiments put forward this issue as they are often add distortion to the head of the subjects, blurring their faces, covering them or making things appear to come from them.

The main technique I have used in my experiments is projection, where I have projected images onto a subject which I then took further and re-‐projected these images onto a white sheet of paper to distort them further.

The main material I have enjoyed using is photography and so I have done little experimentation outside of this. This is because there are a lot of opportunity's to be creative within the camera and it is easy to create a number of different series of images that all have a different style and appearance to each other.

One of the strong visual quality I noticed in my work was the color throughout the images, with some using bright bold colors and others that appear much less vibrant. Each style has given a different emotion to my images allowing me to create a diverse range across my experiments

Francesca Woodman I chose to look at her work because she uses simplicity to create an emotional complex image with a strong impact

Kyle Thompson I chose to look at his work as he uses unusual ideas and u s e s a r e a l i s t i c c o m b i n a t i o n o f photography and photoshop
