Temporary communities

The idea of the project is to reuse an abandouned area in Palma de Mallorca characterized by two pre-existent mills. The building follows the dyagonal of the site with a linear form that create a square , with in the centre one of the mills. The roof of the building becomes a public “promenade giving a new fuction of the private. The second mill is incorporated in the new building and is reused for the vertical circulation. The end result is a new generation, with legacy and new things, a job that takes the strain existing and draw from it. It is a geometric metamorphosis, but also of materials, proportions and dimensions.

House on a island

The project of the house responded to a personalized brief in a place where there was the means to built in a way that was conscious with nature. The main aspect was to create a synthesis between architecture, landscape and the elements of nature. Starting from the analysis of the trees native in Mallorca looking for the structure, the shading propreties and the impact of time on their growth, the project developed in the lowland of Montuiri near the archeological site of Son Fornes. The pomegranate in the center of the courtyard becomes the centre of the house. Creating different sensation between the inner space with the pomegranate where there is the conception of the seasons and the outside space with the grid of the olives trees, the house is composed in four blocks, everyone for a specific activity. As the central colon of the talayot is the focus of the costruction the tree became for the house.

During Bachelor I ,started from a picture by Bernd and Hilla Becher representing a gasholder with the task of transferring it’s pure geometrical shapes in a two-dimensional architectural drawing and of interpreting its materiality with a two-dimensional rendering in Photoshop. During Bachelor II, had the task to assimilate the three-dimensionality of the gasholder with a 3D model drawn in Rhinocheros and then to obtain a realistic rendering with Maxwell studio. Drawing was investigated in its multiple meanings: design for knowledge, an instrument for analysing reality, drawing for representation.

Patio House

The project of the house comes in the city of Balerna in a place with four walls that delimits the site. The intent was to create livable place during the summer and the winter. Starting from the analysis of the orientation and the light, the house is placed in the center of the site. The block of the service is placed in the center of the house, creating a gap between the night zone and the day zone. The overhead light create a visual game during the day lighting the living room. From the claustrophobic entrance there is a open space to the bigger patio.

Two floors house

Starting from a site in Balerna was experimented with densifying the built-up area through interaction with some existing residential buildings. On the chosen site, the sharing of spaces currently unbuilt and the elimination of internal boundaries al- lowed for the construction of new buildings. With the construction of the new single-family houses, through densification, the void between the houses became a shared public space, a significant element in the new neighbourhood.

36

37

Stairs

Starting from a full volume assigned, there was the task to define a space substracting material and joining levels and different access. In the exercise as the theme of the path and other important theme is the one of the stairs, fondamental element in the architectonic composition. The empty spaces connect to dinstinct point creating two identical spaces separated by a step. The stairs connect the level of the superior surface (+ 0.00) with the inferior level (- 3.00).

Mise en scène n. 7

https://vimeo.com/120704964

At the beginning of the first semester analyzing the theme of relation between sound and materiality and architectonical space, wa explored through body exercises with the purpose to learn, to listen and coordinate the body movements with space. Each student built an “Armolabio”, a vertical object looking like a sort of pendulum clock. The exercise culminated in the Mise en scene, during which were hunging 140 Armolabios to a wall of the aula magna and it has been performed their activation in order to create a scenic effect focused on rhythm and synchronicity, with the purpose to make the audience think about sound, its rhythm e their relationship with materiality and space. The mise en scene ended with the discussion between arch. Mario Botta and Gillo Dorfles on the theme of sound.

44

45

Mise en scène n. 8

In the second semester we analyzed the theme of equilibrium again working through body exercises. The purpose was to learn to listen and coordinate our body movements with space to understand the meaning of balance. All the students in couple had to design a tower by the subtraction of material. The tower had to be capable of swinging maintaining the equilibrium. It was three meters tall and we used cardboard honeycomb to build it. The shape was free, the only constraint was to have a door to enter into the tower. The tower was leaning on a curve base and the task was to walk on the base staying in balance. It all summed up in the Mise en scène n. 8 in which all the students staying in equilibrium inside their tower had to make all the towers swing and dance following the music.

Bachelor I - 2014 - 2015 Atelier Annina Ruf DESIGN AND REPRESENTATION

During the year was sounght to present a dialogue with the architectural treatises, exemplified by the plates in the treatises by Vincenso Scamozzi, as a way of grasping its richness and complexity. As a part of the theatricality of these mise-en-scènes a small theatre was added, where the fables of La Fontaine were the inspiration to imagine a possible dÊcor for a virtual recitation to be held in the future. Men, animals, plants, stones: our world and the design of its performance. The scene of the theatre represent the severals and infinities hills of Tuscany.

Bachelor II - 2015 - 2016 Costruction and Project COSTRUCTION DETAIL OF OFIMA

50

The analysis first contemplates the search and collection of documentation concerning the building. Following each student is an individual part of a building and prepares analytical drawings in plan, section, elevation and isometric and constructive models. The purpose is to reveal the structural specificities, architectural and spatial building through the design or model. There were not required executive plans, but an interpretation of the theme and its constructive relationship with architecture. The building is located in Locarno, and is used by the Workshop Hydoelettric Maggia Sa. The part of the building is the main elicoidal stairs with the terrace and the frontal facade.
