Wood is a beautiful natural product with unique properties. It is exceptionally durable, easy to work with and has sound-damping characteristics that create pleasant acoustics. Wood brings life to any project with its warm and timeless look. Moreover, it is a renewable resource and contributes to CO2 capture. The natural variations in colour and refined texture give each summerhouse a unique character.

Our wood

PRO SYSTEM, PRIMA SYSTEM AND LOG CABIN SYSTEM SCANDINAVIAN SPRUCE Our spruce is of high quality. Characteristically, it has a light colour with a fine wood grain because it comes from northern countries with a cold climate, so the trees grow slowly, resulting in very strong and durable wood. It goes well with different garden styles and can look both modern and classic, depending on the design and finish. Because we make our wood to measure, the wood parts fit together perfectly, down to the millimetre. In general, a summerhouse made of Scandinavian spruce exudes a sense of simplicity, purity and natural beauty.

PRO SYSTEM DURABLE DOUGLAS WOOD Just like larch, Douglas wood is very durable. Our summerhouses made of Douglas wood have a Swedish tongue-and-groove profile that contributes to a rustic and rural look. The Swedish tongue-and-groove profile creates an overlap of the wooden boards, creating a charming, traditional appearance. The natural character of Douglas wood, with its warm colour and wood grain, contributes to the cosy and attractive look of the summerhouse. Douglas wood can age over time, resulting in an even more authentic look. If you do want a different colour, you can also counteract this greying by having the summerhouse treated by Lugarde or by treating it yourself with an oil or stain. It is a popular choice for lovers of a country or cottage-style look.

This wood is known for its resistance to rot, fungi and insects, meaning your summerhouse will last for years with little maintenance. Our summerhouses made of Larch consist of straight boards, giving it a modern look. Over time, the wood develops a beautiful golden brown to grey patina, giving the summerhouse a sophisticated look. The advantage here is that this wood can remain outside untreated for 10-15 years*. Do you want to extend that life and/or prefer a different colour? Then have your summerhouse treated by Lugarde or treat it yourself with an oil or stain.

Want to use your summerhouse all year round? Of course! We are happy to show you how. Here are some inspiration pages from several customers who have gone before you.

Cosy wood stove We chose a summerhouse with glass sliding doors all around to enjoy our summerhouse during all seasons. In summer, we fully open them all, and in the colder months, we close them. The glass sliding doors are made of 10 mm tempered glass, but are not insulating. That's why we added a heater ourselves for the cooler summer evenings. When it gets really cold in winter, we light our wood stove. Besides getting warm, nice, and quick, sitting by the fire is also very cosy and atmospheric.

A hair salon at home “I have been a hairdresser for many years; I first worked in a salon and later took the plunge into self-employment. I started cutting at people's homes, but soon, I found that my back began to hurt because I didn't have a suitable chair. I also could not offer colour treatments in addition to haircutting because I did not have the right facilities to perform these treatments in people's homes.

Colour treatments. All our summerhouses are supplied without colour treatment as standard. However, we can deliver your summerhouse in various (colour) treatments that will make your summerhouse equally protected from the weather. Opt for a transparent stain so your wood is well protected but retains its natural look or go for a nice opaque colour. We have listed all the options for you here:

With spray impregnation, all interior and exterior surfaces are pre-treated with an impregnating agent (primer). This gives your summerhouse a basic level of protection before and right after assembly.

With a staining treatment, your summerhouse has a protection that lasts 2-4 years, depending on weather influences and location.

Pressure-impregnated wood is low maintenance and will keep for at least 10 years in all weather conditions. The wood takes on a beautiful greyed appearance over time.

GOOD TO KNOW

0 You can select several colours per summerhouse/veranda. 0 You still need to stain your summerhouse/veranda within 1 year. Within six months if it is white and as soon as possible if it is colourless.

0 You can select several colours per summerhouse/veranda. 0 An even better finish can be achieved by lightly sanding the wood and applying another layer after assembly.

0 You can choose the black or brown oil as an additional treatment to give your log cabin a nice deep black or brown colour or to counteract natural greying in the future. 0 It takes about 6 weeks after assembly before (most of) the moisture is extracted from the wood. Drought and/or contraction cracks may appear.

Areas that are hard to reach after assembly are already protected. Protects wood against possible mould and decay after assembly. With this treatment, your summerhouse / veranda is already primed.

We treat windows and doors with 3 coats. Walls are first pre-treated colourlessly on the inside and outside and then stained in colour on the outside. Perfect protection against UV radiation and mould, and moisture regulating.

Interior floor

Attic floor

Besides the fact that a floor offers comfort, an inner floor also offers protection against rising moisture from below. Lugarde's wooden floors consist of 19 mm thick planks, skirting boards and boiler pressure impregnated floor beams.

The attic consists of beams and a plank floor (including tongue and groove). If you want extra space (height), you can choose to raise the walls or opt for a steeper roof (26 degrees or more). We can also supply a suitable ladder for the attic of your summerhouse.

Exterior floor Our exterior floors are made of Larch. Larch wood is similar to hardwood and is very durable. This makes the terrace floor weather resistant and requires no further treatment. The floor is profiled, 20mm thick and boiler pressure impregnated bottom beams are included

Insulation Why insulate? If you use your summerhouse or log cabin as a living space, we recommend that you insulate it. You can use your summerhouse as a home office, fitness room, extra living room or holiday home, for instance.

We also adjust the height of the bargeboards where necessary.

The advantages of the wood of Lugarde at a glance Window/door wood and posts are laminated and finger-jointed to prevent warping.

We only process the good parts of the trunk into planks.

Very good quality wood from the coldest areas, making the wood stable, strong and durable.

Planks with large and/or falling knots are removed from the process. All the wood is dried in special kilns to reduce expansion and contraction of the wood.
