Creativity is not magically spawned. When ideas begin to take shape, the easiest form of exploration is experimentation. Through fast pace model making, the different irritations of models create a methodology from which distinctive possibilities begin to be take shape. The rapid production of models helps decipher conceptual ideas that can potentially developed into tangible designs. Even though fast pace model making is not the answer to every design problem, it can develop the beginning stages of development in order to advance a conceptual design.

Site Corruptor The project developed around the concept of a powerful handshake. The physical activity was analyzed. The analysis showed specific particular to the type of handshake; furthermore, those traits developed into a conceptual construct.

Geometrical Fold

The project developed around the idea of the manipulation of light with different materials. The end result is a compilation of different densities of clear elements integrated in a three-dimensional grid.

The design process was developed through out a series of trial and error series of experiments with respectively different outcomes. The experimentation showed distinctive methods of working.

Using the fast pace model making method of work, design can developed rapidly resulting in a clear distinction between a good and bad decision. Beyond the rapid evolvement of production, the analysis of each decision made, in form of a model, contains key elements from which the semantics of a design can begin to advance. The city of Los Angeles is the site explored within the project. The design problem initiated within abandoned building lot located in-between a residential zone and a hyperactive mix-use zone. The design challenge is to design a housing project capable to host the urban fabric.

Apartment Complex 1229 Hope St, Los Angeles, CA The project arouse from the need to housing within the site. The design takes into consideration site conditions as well as pertaining necessities of the community. The apartments relate to the interlocking green open areas that are share among the residents. The overall design of the building is influence by two typologies. The building elevates from the urban fabric to generate a division from the public and private areas.

Design is not one dimensional. The process of creation diverges from many factors that alter the final design. The articulation of a design goes beyond a methodology of work and a process of making because there are layers of information added to distinctive projects that are non-physical. This project originated on the city of Cusco, Peru and it coped the connection between a highly culture driven city and a modern intervention. The juxtaposition between the old and the new buildings creates the design challenge.

Kusicancha Program The program implanted in the site will be a Library. All around the site there are a massive amount of program fitted for an audience that is foreign to the site. The most predominant program around the site is commercial. These commercial programs are tailor to predominantly be taken advantage by tourist. The main street that flows in front of the site is called Santo Domingo and it’s anchored by a 5 star restaurant (Tartessos) and by a 5 star Hotel (Hotel Libertador). Consequently, the5 star Hotel and the 5 star restaurant servers as magnet programs. The magnet programs bring smaller programs to the site, for example restaurants, souvenir shops, and complementary programs that would be needed by any tourist (Farmacy, hostels, Money exchange, etc.). In other words, the introduction of a Civic Space will serve the community instead of the tourist. The Civic Space will bring the native community together in a way that the community would benefit the most from the introduced space.

Library program:

The civic Space will accomplish the unification of a broken community by creating free public space, open forums for people to encounter art, enjoying traditional performances, and by participating in other cultural activities.

Qillqawa Library. Cusco, Peru The project began with a site analysis that emphasized in the true damage that tourism can bring into a highly cultural site. The traditions of Cusco date back to their Inca ancestors. The program introduced within the site emphasizes the native community of Cusco. The introduced program is a civic space, a library, from which the community can benefit. Within the civic space the community can be taught trade classes as well as for the younger population have a place to grow their knowledge. The final design is elevated from the ground to show homage to the rich history of the site, simultaneously, it creates a space in which the public can experience the design in a different manner.

The floor plans originated from the Inca ruin’s patterns. The Inca ruins outlined the path from which the Inca divided their homes. The divisions are aligned perfectly to the North and South axis. Furthermore, the grid introduced by the Inca gave way to division within the overall geometry which divided the distinctive spaces.

The analysis and digestion of particular factors within the site, is the distinctive factor that gives value to a conceptual idea. Never the less, architecture goes beyond the understanding site conditions. Meaningful architecture understands culture barriers and underline conditions in order manifest an attitude in order to produce change. Huntington Beach, CA is a city in which its reputation is indisputably noticeable by its proximity to the ocean, yet the architecture is as exciting as mass produce suburban sprawl was. The design challenge is to give an identity to the site and its surroundings.

Huntington Beach Art Center. CA The physical constrains of the site were impacted by a substantial growth of tourism. Tourism is not a malignant, yet the architecture of the site change in order to manage and profit from the surplus of tourism. The city fabric is deluded in a mixture of bars and restaurant. The project introduce within the site has to developed a character for what the Huntington Beach means. The project develop is The Huntington Beach Art Center. The Art Center will display not only a portion of the rich history of the city but also it will create a space in which local art can be experience; concurrently, the introduction of the Art Center will create an anchor point for other projects to begin influence the future design of the city.
