SERIES WIRING DIAGRAM wire high power LEDs in series

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: High power LEDs must be used in conjunction with constant current output power supply PLR, PLU, PLS, PLD or RGBox. A maximum of 9 LEDs may be connected to one power supply (PLU/350 1-9). Always ensure that the temperature of the circuit board does not exceed 85°C. When wiring high power LEDs they must be wired in series and not in parallel. Incorrect wiring of LEDs can result in irreparable damage to the LEDs and power supply.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR WIRING OF LUXEON LEDS AND CONSTANT CURRENT POWER SUPPLIES: WARNING: LUXEON LEDs will be seriously damaged or destroyed by any of the following events: Not using a constant current LED driver

Why? – For the same reasons as previous question.

Why? – If you wire a LUXEON LED to a conventional transformer or constant voltage LED driver, the LED will be destroyed.

Not having proper thermal control for the LED

LUXEON LEDs are high power LEDs and must be run on constant current. Each LED requires supplying with a different voltage in order to be fed with a 350mA or 700mA constant current. For this reason they must be wired in series.

Why? – The LUXEON LED is a high power LED. It has a small core where the light is produced. This core gets hot very quickly. Overheating of LED will severely shorten the life of the LED, and reduce light output. It is therefore necessary to ensure proper thermal design of all LED applications to ensure that the heat is removed from the core of the LED and dissipated elsewhere.

Connecting the power supply to the mains supply before connecting to the LED Why? – Constant current power supplies will ‘ramp up’ to their maximum voltage in the event of an open circuit. When the LED is then connected they are being connected to a massive over-voltage. If the power supply has been connected to the mains supply with an open circuit, ensure the output terminals are short circuited to discharge the power supply internal capacitors before connecting any LEDs. Switching the LED on the low voltage side of the power supply

WIRING INFORMATION FAQ Why do the colour of LEDs vary so much? (colour binning) Unfortunately because Luxeon LED are at the cutting edge of technology and LED production, the colour temperature of the Luxeon LED cannot be guaranteed. Although Luxeon do currently grade LEDs into colour ‘bins’ the colour variation within these bins is still significant to the human eye. When designing schemes using Luxeon LED, it is important that they should be designed to not be sensitive to the colour temperature of the LEDs light. Why must LUXEON LEDs be wired in series? To achieve the same current throughout a circuit, it is necessary to wire in series. Circuits wired in Parallel will have a constant Voltage, and circuits wired in Series will have a constant current for all components in the circuit. What voltage do the LUXEON LEDs run on? There is no answer to this question, except somewhere between 2 and 4 volts. Every LUXEON LED requires a different voltage but a constant current. What is the output voltage of the constant current drivers? The output voltage varies depending on how many LED are wired into the series circuit. The more LEDs wired into the circuit, the higher the voltage. What is the maximum voltage of the Constant Current drivers? Each driver has its own maximum voltage, but all Collingwood drivers have a maximum voltage of below 50V DC ie Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) Can LUXEON LEDs be used in bathrooms and swimming pools? Yes, (assuming the enclosure has appropriate IP rating) but always bear in mind the maximum voltage of the driver in the event of an open circuit. Be careful when selecting the driver. Certain areas of bathrooms and swimming pools have maximum voltage requirements of less than normal Safety Extra Low Voltage eg, bathroom Zone 1, max voltage 30 V DC this means that PLR and PLS could be used, but PLU could not. Can LUXEON LEDs be used in saunas? Yes and No. All equipment installed in sauna areas C and D must be suitable for ambient temperature of 125°C. As with bathroom areas, saunas have specific voltage requirements. If an LED is run constantly at high temperature its life and light output will be severely limited. Only fit LED products where the temperature of the LED can be effectively controlled.

Si l’on ne vérifie pas la température thermique des LEDs Pourquoi? – Les LEDs LUXEON sont des LEDs d’haute puissance. Elles ont un petit noyau ou se reproduit la lumière. Ce noyau se rechauffe très vite. Le surchauffage des LEDs va réduire la durée de vie énormement et réduire la puissance de lumière fournie. Chaque transformateur a sa propre tension maximum, mais tous les transformateurs de Collingwood ont une tension maximum sous 50V DC cad sécurité de tension extrabas (SELV – Safety Extra Low Voltage) On peut utiliser les LEDs LUXEON dans la salle de bains et dans des piscines? Oui, (on suppose qu’on utilise un encastrement au classement IP (classement d’étanchéité) mais il faut toujours considérer la tension maximum du transformateur si le circuit est ouvert. Faites attention quand vous achetez le transformateur. Quelques zones de salles de bains et de piscines ont besoin d’une tension maximum sous les normes de sécurité de tension extra-bas par exemple zone 1 de salle de bains, tension de 30 V DC. Alors on y peut utiliser PLR et PLS mais pas PLU. On peut utiliser les LUXEON LEDs dans le sauna? Oui et non. Toutes les installations dans les Zones C et D doivent supporter une temperature de 125 dég C. Comme les zones de salle de bains, les saunas ont besoin d’une tension spécifique. (Farbgruppen) LUXEON ist Nummer 1 von der Technologie und Herstellung her aber die Farbtemperatur von LUXEON LEDs ist nicht immer gleich. Luxeon gruppiert zurzeit ihre LEDs nach Farben aber die Farbschwankungen sogar bei einer Gruppe Können leicht sichtbar sein! Warum müssen LUXEON LED in Reihe gershaltet werden? Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV). Dürfen LUXEON LEDs im Badezimmer oder in Schwimmbad installiert werden? Ja, (solange das Gehäuse den richtigen Schutzgrad hat). Bei einem offenen Kreislauf berücksichtigen Sie immer die Spannunggrenze des Trafos. Bei manchen Badbereichen und Schwimmbädern gilt eine Spannunggrenze (SELV) liegt. ZB Badbereich 1 darf mit max 30 Volt DC versorft werden - das heißt man darf PLR und PLS installieren aber keinen PLU. Darf man LUXEON LEDs in der Sauna installieren? Alle in Saunabereich C und D installierten Einrichtungen müssen geeignet für eine Umgebungstemperatur von 125°C. Eine Sauna hat tonen fast wie bei dem Badbereich. Wenn ein sehr warmer Bereich immer durch eine LED beleuchtet wird, wird die Nutzungsdauer und Lichtleistung der LED dadurch verkürzt. Installieren Sie LEDBeleuchtung nur bei zulässigen Umgebungstemperaturen wo sie auch beaufsichtigt werden können.

INFORMAZIONE IMPORTANTE: I LED di potenza devono essere collegati ad alimentatori a corrente costante , PLR, PLU, PLS, PLD o RGBox. Non viene utilizzato un alimentatore per LED a corrente costante

Interrompendo il circuito su lato a bassa tensione (quello dei LED)

Perchè ? - Se viene infatti collegato un LED LUXEON ad un trasformatore convenzionale o ad un alimentatore a tensione costante, il LED verrà danneggiato irreparabilmente.

Perchè ? – I LED si danneggiano alla riaccensione per il motivo spiegato nel punto precedente.

I LED utilizzati in questi prodotti sono LED di potenza e devono essere alimentati ad una corrente costante pari 350 mA, per questa ragione devono essere cablati in serie. Connettere l’alimentatore alla rete prima di connettere i LED Perchè ? - Infatti l'alimentatore a corrente costante connesso alla rete si porta alla sua massima tensione di uscita quando il circuito è aperto: se a questo punto il LED viene collegato subisce una forte sovratensione. Se l'alimentatore viene collegato alla rete con un circuito aperto assicurarsi che i terminali d’uscita siano corto-cituitati per scaricare le sovratensioni residue (dovute ai condensatori interni) prima di collegare i LED.

Non prevedendo un adeguato controllo termico Perchè ? – Nei LED di potenza utilizzati la luce viene prodotta da un componente miniaturizzato che si scalda molto velocemente: un surriscaldamento del LED ne riduce la vita e l'emissione di luce. È quindi necessario una corretto studio dell'installazione per fare in modo che il calore prodotto dal LED venga dissipato altrove.

La tecnologia di ottenimento dei LED Luxeon è di recente introduzione e non è possibile ottenere una assoluta costanza della temperatura di colore. Nonostante Luxeon suddivida i colori dei LED in famiglie di colore, all'interno della stesa famiglia ci possono essere una diversità di colori percepibili dall'occhio umano. Perché il LED devono essere connessi in serie? Per ottenere la stessa corrente in un circuito è necessario cablare in serie i componenti. I circuiti con componenti cablati in parallelo sono caratterizzati da tensione costante. A che tensione funzionano i LED? Normalmente tra i 2 ed i 4 Volt ma devono essere alimentati a corrente costante. . Quale è la tensione di uscita degli alimentatori a corrente costante? La tensione d'uscita dipende da quanti LED sono connessi nel circuito in serie. Cosa è la tensione massima di un alimentatore a corrente costante? Ogni alimentatore a corrente costante ha con dato la tensione massima. Gli alimentatori a catalogo Collingwood hanno una tensione massima sotto i 50 Volt. I LED possono essere utilizzati in bagni o piscine? Si, presupponendo che l'involucro abbia un grado IP adeguato: ricordare sempre la tensione massima nel caso il circuito si trovi accidentalmente aperto. Fare attenzione nella scelta dell'alimentatore. In alcune zone dei bagni e delle piscine sono richieste tensioni massime molto basse; ad esempio nella Zone 1, la massima tensione è 30 V DC: questo significa che possono essere utilizzati alimentatori PLR e PLS ma non PLU. I LED possono essere utilizzati nelle saune? Si e no. Tutte le apparecchiature installate nelle aree C e D delle saune devono essere adatti al funzionamento in ambienti con T=125 °C. Cosi come per bagni e piscine, anche per le saune sono previsti specifici limiti di tensione. Se un LED funziona costantemente ad alta temperatura, la sua vita e la sua emissione luminosa saranno penalizzati. Bisogna installare i LED solamente dove la temperatura del LED può essere efficacemente controllata.

Conectar el LED en la parte de bajo voltaje del transformador

¿Por qué? – Si conectas un LED Luxeon a un transformador convencional o a un transformador con un voltaje constante, el LED se estropeará.

¿Por que? – Por las mismas razones que en la pregunta anterior.

Los LEDs Luxeon son LEDs de alta potencia y deben funcionar con una corriente constante. Cada LED requiere un voltaje diferente para poder estar alimentado por una corriente constante de 350mA o 700mA. Por esta razón la instalación debe de efectuarse en serie. Conectar el transformador a la red principal antes de instalar los LEDs ¿Por qué? – Los transformadores de corriente constante necesitan ‘arrancarse’ para alcanzar en un circuito abierto su máximo voltaje. Cualquier LED conectado recibiría entonces una sobrecarga enorme. Cuando el transformador esté conectado a la red principal, en un circuito abierto, asegúrese que los cables de salida estén debidamente conectados al tomatierra para descargar los condensadores internos antes de conectar cualquier LED.

No disponer de un control térmico adecuado ¿Por qué? – El LED Luxeon es un LED de alta potencia en el cual un diminuto componente produce luz. Este componente se calienta rápidamente. Un calentamiento en exceso acorta drásticamente la vida del LED y reduce la emisión de la luz. Es por ello necesario asegurarse de un diseño anti-térmico apropiado en todas las aplicaciones con LEDs y procurar que el calor se aleje de este componente del LED hacia otras partes.

WIRING INFORMATION FAQ ¿Por qué el color de los LEDs se diferencia tanto? LUXEON es el número uno en tecnología y fabricación, pero aún así la temperatura de color no es siempre igual. Luxeon agrupa recientemente sus LEDs por color pero dentro de estos grupos aún se puede apreciar ligeras variaciones. ¿Por qué se tiene que conectar los LEDs Luxeon en serie? Para conseguir la misma corriente en todo un circuito es necesario conectar en serie. Los circuitos conectados en paralelo tendrán el voltaje constante, sin embargo los conectados en serie tendrán la corriente constante para todos los componentes que forman parte del circuito. ¿Qué voltaje precisan los LEDs Luxeon? Esta pregunta no tiene una contestación exacta , pero oscila entre de 2 y 4 Voltios. Cada Led Luxeon requiere un voltaje distinto pero una corriente constante. ¿Qué voltaje sale de los transformadores de corriente constante? La cantidad de voltios depende del número de LEDs conectados en serie dentro del circuito. Cuantos más LEDs forman parte del circuito, más voltios se precisa. ¿Cuál es el voltaje máximo de los transformadores de corriente constante? Cada transformador tiene su propio límite de voltios pero todo los de Collingwood tiene un límite de menos de 50 Voltios. (SELV) ¿Se pueden usar los LEDs Luxeon en baños o piscinas? Si (siempre que cumpla con la correspondiente normativa IP), teniendo en cuenta el voltaje máximo del transformador, en caso de un circuito abierto. Cuidado al elegir el transformador. En ciertas zonas del baño o piscinas el máximo de voltios permitido es inferior al normal (SELV) p.e. baño zona 1. max.voltaje 30V DC lo que significa que se puede utilizar la PLR y PLS pero no la PLU. Se pueden usar los LEDs Luxeon en saunas? Si y no. Todo equipo instalado en las zonas C y D debe ser apropiado para una temperatura ambiental de 125º C. Igual que ciertas zonas del baño, la sauna también dispone de normativas específicas acerca del máximo de voltios permitidos. Si un LED funciona constantemente a una temperatura alta, su vida y la intensidad de la luz se verán seriamente afectadas. Utilizar productos de LEDs sólo en lugares donde se pueda controlar eficazmente la temperatura.
