INTRODUCTION

HONORS PROGRAM THESIS | 2022

THE EXPERIENCE OF LIVING ARCHITECTURE

PRESIDENT: Mtro. Martín Quiroga Mora

SECRETARY: Dr. Nicolás Esteban Lopez Tamayo

Currently we are in a purely visual society, where the sense of sight has been established as the most important over all others, an important factor that has promoted this problem is the existing multimedia content. This in the end impacts many times in a superficial and artificial architecture. There was a moment in my life when I was at the top of the Trengereid Fjord in Norway, feeling the heat of the sun above me along with the wind touching the grass on the hill, all this complemented by the beautiful landscape that was in front of me, I was very happy at that moment in my life and precisely I came to the conclusion that architecture must provoke that kind of feelings and sensations in us through the interaction of our body with the spaces through the senses, that creates an experience in architecture.

Architectural spaces should respond to the sensory and perceptive field, producing emotions and sensations to the user, resulting in a valuable experience, it must be able to enhance the emotions, thoughts and reflections that are the result of our daily life, also have to contribute to our emotional well-being and achieve fulfillment in the user if exist a correct use of the appropriate sensory ingredients. In my thesis I dedicated myself to developing a reflexive text and a catalog of sensory criteria that could contribute and be useful to design.

SPACE MODELS WORKSHOP | 2020 PROGRAMMATIC HYBRID BULDING

The project consists in the design of a mixed-use building located in the City of Puebla on an urban void, the project intends to mix components that are apparently unrelated but that offers a diversity of uses and users that enrich the space and the experience. The architectural program was provided and the relationships between the different components had to be worked out, these components were a fire station, commercial stores, gym, geek culture center, digital room and a coffee shop, all of them complemented with outdoor terraces. It began with an analysis of the area where the different forces that influenced the building’s terrain were observed, such as sunlight, prevailing winds, flows of people, accessibility, among others.

Subsequently, different volumes and models were elaborated to explore the shape and the relationship of the building with the context and its behavior, also the internal distribution of the building was explored in order to make dynamic routes that relate the different users of the building. Different operations were used such as the creation of voids, double heights and the use of ramps throughout the building to facilitate accessibility to all users, at the and all of this impacts the way in which space is explored and experienced through perception and senses.

A green Model of oasis was created to shape the building, different shapes were explored. The final oasis model was transformed to gray carboard, where the different levels began to be represented. The different possibilities offered by the slabs were explored. A more complex model was made, the different levels can be appreciated with their acceses and ramps. The final model of the building could be splited in two, allowing that the interior of the building to be appreciated.
Location in context

THIRD FLOOR

GYM + SCREENING ROOM + COFFE SHOP

It can be accessed by an elevator, stairs and a ramp, here is the projection room that is shaped like a cube that is levitating in the air, there is also the gym and the cafeteria, where the connection between these components is sought.

SECOND FLOOR

TERRACE + VIDEOGAME SPACE + RECREATIONAL ROOM + TOILETS + DINING ROOM

The large ramp leads to the terrace, which has direct access to the second and third floors. On the second floor there are two double heights that allow connecting with the spaces below, the videogame space, the recreational room and the dining room function as a single space.

FIRST FLOOR

COURTYARD + SHOPS + FIRE STATION + CONTROL ROOM + GEEK CULTURE CENTER + BOARD GAME ROOM

The first floor creates a large plaza in the center of the building, close to the large ramp there are various shops that can function as cafeterias or local businesses, on the other side of the building is the fire station that coexists with the entire geek space.

FOURTH FLOOR OUTDOOR TERRACE

A large outdoor space that can be adapted to different uses, such as concerts, conferences and outdoor activities, it can be accessed by elevator or stairs. Geek

37 PREMIO A LA COMPOSICIÓN ARQ. ALBERTO J. PANI | 2021 ECUMENICAL COMPLEX

STUDENT REPRESENTING UNIVERSIDAD DE LAS AMÉRICAS PUEBLA ( UDLAP )

PROJECT COMPLETED IN A PERIOD OF THREE DAYS

The project consists of generating a space in Cuernavaca, México, where users of any religion can perform their own ceremonial activities, either together or individually.

Taking advantage of the vegetation and the favorable climatic conditions of the place, the aim is to create a relation with nature and divine, promoting spirituality, for this reason different components are created for reflection, meditation and harmony of the human being. The main objective of the project is to show the journey of life and thereby induce an assessment of it, because of that the project is structured based on a narrative divided into different stages, from the beginning of life to the end and be able to trascend.

A secondary objective of the project is to demonstrate that there is a sacred thread that leads our lives, regardless of religion, which we can perceive through the different natural elements present in nature. The complex works as a public space, opening in its entirety towards the city, but at the same time privacy and individuality is also sought, especially introspection.

URBAN REGENERATION PROPOSAL

TEAM PROJECT: THE MASTERPLAN

COMPLETED TASKS:

-Team Leader -Context Analysis -Information

Mapping -Preparation of diagrams and maps

-Rendering production -Site visits

The project consists of carrying out an analysis along three different scales: The regional scale, the neighborhood scale and the scale of the architectural object. An analysis began to be made at the regional level of La Calera area , one of the many existing regions in Puebla City.

An important fragmentation between society and the infrastructure of said location was identified in the region, in addition problems were identified in the region as a lack of green areas and public space, in addition, a loss of identity in the region could be observed.

It was essential to recover green areas, generate new infrastructure for public use, rescue damaged or contaminated natural spaces, promote sports, coexistence and recreation.

This is how the regional scale went to the neighborhood scale where a master plan was proposed that could solve these problems, new infrastructure, new roads, routes, alleys, existing buildings with a new use, green areas, etc. were located there.

LA CALERA MIXED COMPLEX INDIVIDUAL PROJECT IN THE MASTERPLAN

La Calera Mixed Complex is the project elaborated on an architectural object scale, it is located inside the masterplan proposal and in the great void of Antigua Calera that can be interpreted as a great wound that does not allow continuity in the area. The proposal seeks to have a large number of activities so that it can always be active and with a wide variety of users, which is why a modular structure was proposed to which each space can be adapted depending on the needs.

The structure is made up of 1-meter-thick concrete columns and beams and uses a reticular slab that can withstand spans of up to 10 meters. The facade consists of a latticework made up of steel bars that prevent the passage of direct light towards the building and allowing ventilation at the same time, it also makes use of various skylights and windows that promote coexistence with the outside. Various components are inserted into the structure, such as bleachers, ramps and various objects that can be assembled in a simple way to the structure, this allows the structure to transform over time and adapt to new needs.

The bike lane proposed in the master plan plays an important role in the function of the building because it crosses it and generates a route through the entire building, making it an unique experience.

GLOBALIZATION WORKSHOP | 2020 ARTS AND CRAFTS CENTER

The project consists of the rehabilitation of an old house located in “El Alto” neighborhood in the Puebla City, Mexico, with the purpose of giving it a new use as a school of arts and crafts, the existing state of deterioration in the house was remarkable. The old house is made up of historical elements such as old beam slabs from more than a century ago, also have parasitic elements that have been added by informal establishments that have happened over the years.

The proposal for the new Center for Digital Arts and Crafts seeks to respond to problems present in the neighborhood such as insecurity, poverty, lack of opportunities and erroneous perceptions by the rest of the city. The neighborhood of “El Alto” was the first neighborhood founded in Puebla and is currently segregated from the city, so the proposal seeks to integrate the neighborhood back into the city and offer useful spaces that respond to the current needs.

An analysis of the area was carried out where it was concluded that there were three main problems to be solved, the different data and information were collected and it was shaped to a complex system diagram where it was possible to reach different design criteria as a solution for the problems, using them in the project meant that the rehabilitation was likely to be successful and at the same offer a sensorial experience to the user thanks to the creation of unique atmospheres.
