Rapid development in the production of technological devices and electronics in combination with the consumerist mindset has perpetuated an accelerated cycle of obsolescence, with the current shelf life of high-tech electronics not exceeding a period of 6 months. Over the past decade, this has resulted in an unprecedented volume of electronic waste (E-waste) disseminating across the planet. The enforcement of worldwide legislation attempting to limit the shipment of E-waste around the world – including China’s import bans – has triggered the rise of illegal shipments to developing nations such as Indonesia, Vietnam and many other countries in the Southeast Asian region. This influx of illegal E-waste has sparked a growing informal economy centered around precious minerals and metals found in the E-waste itself, precipitating unsustainable and dangerous working conditions and methods of managing and mining E-waste landfills. In response, “M.E.W-U”, Mechanized E-Waste Urbanism, is a roaming urban E-waste collection, mining and processing rig that capitalizes on the unseen resources of discarded technological objects. In addition 6
to mining, consuming and eventually dematerializing existing unmanageable E-waste landfills, the M.E.W-U platform also interfaces with a series of secondary infrastructural ports, vertical landfills and extraction systems docked in more developed countries. Eventually, the economic forces born out of this megastructure will give rise to a new urbanism and global network of collection and production. It is a speculative nomadic urbanized infrastructure that offers an alternative scenario for the informal communities that currently mine E-waste landfills. It is a scenario that explores an urban tectonic that envisions a productive dialogue between human space; the city, and nonhuman space; the machine. M.E.W-U is a framework where both human and non-human inhabitants begin to interact with one another in new ways and develop new relationships, new built environments and new economies.

CONEY ISLAND COMMUNITY CENTER REVIVING CONEY ISLAND Integrated Design Development Studio 2018 - Spring Location: Coney Island, NY

Critics: Lonn Combs & Gabrielle Brainard The project was driven with a desire of providing a space that the local community can call there own without feeling the fear of begin push out from genrefication. The project push all programs above the ground floor plan to provided an open ground plan that is open to the public 24/7. This move gives the community a place with the building where they can call there own and gives a sign of embracing the local community. The facade plays the same role as the sense of being seen as open and transparent even thought the program can be considered a high class of a program where few can experiences it . As well as giving a tip of the hat to the local materials and uses of the area. Further advancing on this concept of transparency the project takes the approach of breaking the traditional way a theater is seen by changing the way the front of house and back of house are being separated with a design that seemly mixes together where the visitor and staff resign in the same space even thought they might not seen one other directly.

The project is a futher develpoment of an intital desgin chosen in a previsous studio called Integrated Design Schematic Studio.

AIRSCAPE RESHAPING THE URBAN DENSITY Vertical Studio 2017 - Fall Location: Manhattan, NY Partner: Tania Lopes Critics: Lydia Kallipoliti Pollution today is becoming a leading factor in today’s world of designers and architects. Where now designs are being push towards remediation techniques to improve the world environment. The project present here establishes a desire to improve air quality of urban cities as it takes the existing system and infrastructure that cities currently use on a daily bases and are the leading causes of air pollution. For example exhaust pipe, subway grates, amount of cars traveling in and out of the city emitting co2 gas and with the urban canyon effects pollution becomes trap in the street of the city causing unsafe conditions. So how can we eliminate this problem? The project takes concept such as air pollution, urban density and infrastructure and connects them though one system . In doing so the project begins to extend the buildings boundaries and challenges the way we look at public space, density of the city and pollution in a system that is dynamic. As time continues on the project itself will begin to take over increasing density and vertical circulation with the city and change how some social infrastructure are place today such as the real estate.

The project tackles multiple scales with in the city infrastructure from the larger scale the building to the smallest the exhaust outlets of the building itself. The images on the right show the starting point of the project extending the building infrastructure and connecting the old system with this new one.

Theodoridis Around the world there are many places with a specific vernacular that onces someone says a name of that city you automatically think of that one unique vernacular. For New York it is the food cart, the food cart is an unique vernacular in its simplicity of a metal box that is so hyper design in maximizing food delivery. Now how can we take this vernacular and redefine in such a way that we acknowledge the current stage of the food cart and revamp into a new concept that brings this vernacular to become a portable agriculture distributor for the urban city while maintaining components of the old. In the studio we decide a modular base design that would be the best for the workers who would be the ones to attempt to bring this future of food distribution to the public. It bring quick assembly and simplicity as of the current vernacular of the food cart. Simply, Fast, Cheap

Parametric design is a process based on algorithmic thinking that enables the expression of parameters and rules that, together, define, encode and clarify the relationship between design intent and design response. With this process of thinking architects can produce structure that not only improve there own design but the environment as well. The base of all these project where to introduce programs such as grasshopper, ladybug, diva and coding programs to forms that act on the information of real life data to create environmental structure as well as architectural sculptures that are beauty such as art.
