Directional lighting present a great sense of rhythm. Bollards and wall lamps are located on the paths, walls or plants. The spacing of the fittings is equal, the angle of the beams determine the strength of the lamps and desired effect.

Multi-stem trees allow the light through to the canopy creating volume and depth. Lit trees add the most drama as their height and spread to create interesting atmosphere.

LED technology, strip lighting has become a great way to create highly sophisticated architectural results and lit the stair cases and handrails.

South thamesmead Garden design detail Lukasz Wisz BA Garden design YR 313 25/April/2015 Scale 1-50 @ A1

The main inspiration to create this garden is connection of Cor-ten steel and concrete. These two distinct material have many common features whereas they tottaly different. Cor-Ten steel produces a monumentality that, in the case of architecture, gives weight to the otherwise light and transparent Modernism, and in art it gives abstract art a texture and color that situate it in opposition to the surroundings, be it natural or manmade. Monumentality and contrast are but two apparent traits of Cor-Ten steel, regardless of form or composition. Cor-ten steel gives the scale to objects gives contrast, warm hue, its strength and durability. Cor-Ten steel is quite an interesting material in the realm of contemporary architecture: It presents a striking monolithic appearance with subtle differences in browns and oranges; it offers a low-maintenance cladding and in the way that it rusts Cor-Ten steel is like a living faรงade, changing quickly and then slowly over time. Where concrete is cold grey and unfriendly. Linking this elements together I am testing relationship and design communication between them.

DESIGN DETAIL The Board gym contemporary building with glass facade gives interesting combinations with corten steel wall. It overlook to the North on South-Mere lake and near by garden.

Section A-A Shows changes in level. Set of steps leading to Gym, Cafe and market space. Contemporary glass clad gym building

Corten steel provides a sense of solid permanence, softened with the use of multi-stemmed trees and grasses.

Riven granite flag paving path creates a high quality finish that encourage cyclists to slow down and dividing garden in to two different spaces connected by use of material repetition and path shape.

The shape of the garden came from contrasting symmetry. I wanted to create space with the same shape but different character therefore one varies to other by the use of material, plants feel and character.

MOVING THROUGH THE HEDGES AND PLANTING, THE PASSAGE BECOMES NARROWER AND DIFFICULT TO MOVE THROUGH. THERE ARE SHELVES AND CUPBOARDS ON BOTH SIDES EMULATING A JUNK SHOP. WILL YOU BE SLIGHTLY UNCOMFORTABLE? OR EXCITED AS YOU BREATHE THE LOVELY SWEET SCENT OF MIRABILIS FLOWERS. THIS CURIOSITY DOES SOMETHING SPECIAL AT 4 O’CLOCK... YOU ENCOUNTER THE FIRST CURIOSITY, THE MANDRAGA, WHICH WILL SURPRISE AND GIVE A TASTE OF WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO EXPERIENCE IN THE REST OF THE GARDEN. BE PREPARED. AS YOU MAKE YOUR WAY OUT OF THE MANDRAGA CAGE, YOU WILL HAVE A CHOICE OF RAMPS TO EITHER ASCEND OR DECSEND, OR YOU CAN MOVE FORWARD TO EMBRACE THE OPEN AIR AFTER HAVING CAGES OVER HEAD. THERE IS NO SET PATH FOR YOU TO TAKE, YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR DESTINY. AS YOU MOVE AROUND THE MIRROR PASSAGES YOU WILL BE SURPRISED BY THE DISCOVERY OF MORE CURIOSITIES, SOME REAL AND SOME UNREAL. IT’S HERE YOU WILL FIND THE SENSITIVE TREE CURIOSITY. HERE YOU WILL GET TO INTERACT WITH THE SENSITIVE TREE AND DISCOVER WHY THIS IS A SPECIAL TREE.

26

THE NARROW RAMPS GOING UPWARDS (LEVEL 1) AND DOWNWARDS (LEVEL -1) FROM THE GROUND LEVEL ARE IN BETWEEN MORE SHELVES WITH OBJECTS, PLANTS AND SCULPTURES REMIND YOU THAT YOU COULD FIND ANYTHING IN THE GARDEN.

ON THE UPPER FLOOR IS A NEW EXPERIENCE AND A NEW CURIOSITY TO SEE. THE BUDDAH’S BLOOD CANNA SITS IN A METAL MESH CAGE AND YOU CAN VIEW THE LEVEL BELOW WITH MORE CUSIOSITIES WITHIN OR BEYOND YOUR REACH.

YOUR SENSES WILL BE HEIGHTENED IN THE BARK COVERED GROUND ON THE LOWER DECK, IT MIGHT FEEL A LITTLE LIKE A CLAUSTROPHOBIC BASEMENT HOWEVER YOU WILL GET A GOOD VIEW OF THE CURIOSITIES DOWN HERE, WHERE LEGEND HAS IT THAT THE FERN FLOWER CAN BE FOUND. ALSO AS YOU WALK OUT ONTO THE WATER AND SEE YOUR OWN REFLECTION THE ELUSIVE MONEY TREE TEMPTS YOU WITH ITS BOUNTY. CAN YOU REACH IT?

FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE GARDEN, YOU WILL BE CAPTIVATED BY THE WALK-THROUGH CAGE AT THE ENTRANCE WHICH IS ENCLOSED SIMILAR TO A CORRIDOR. WITH CLIMBING PLANTS RESTRICTING THE VIEW ON THE SIDES AND ABOVE GIVING VISITORS A SENSE OF PASSAGE AND ENCLOSURE THAT WILLS YOU TO COME INSIDE.

Chaumont Garden Festival - Layout plan. Scale: 1:100. Date: 13/10/2014 Cesare Cardia, Ellen Roelvink, Jan Novak, Lukasz Wisz, Marcia Vieria, Theo Kidman

IN THIS CORNER OF THE GARDEN IS OUR THE DANCING TREE, THIS CURIOSITY MAY GIVE YOU THE URGE TO DANCE, CLAP AND SING, WHEN YOU FIND THAT THE DANCING TREE MIGHT RESPOND IN AN EXTROADINARY WAY.

Le Jardin des Curiosités

OUR PIÉCE DE RÉSISTANCE, THE MOST EXCITING, EXTRAORDINARY AND UNBELIEVABLE CURIOSITY SITS IN THE CORNER OF THE GARDEN. IN A FITTINGLY SECLUDED AND SPECIAL PLACE, IT IS SAID THAT THE TREE OF LIFE SITS. IS IS REAL OR IS IT UNREAL? YOU WILL HAVE TO DECIDE, WILL YOU BE TEMPTED BY THIS EXTRAORDINARY THING?

IN THIS OPEN AREA, IN BETWEEN THE TWO SHARP ENDED CORNERS OF THE GARDEN, VISITORS WILL COME ACROSS A BENCH WITH STUNNING, EXOTIC AND TROPICAL FEEL OF PASSIFLORA PLANT. THIS AREA ALLOWS VISITORS TO RELAX AND MOVE COMFORTABLY WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHILST OBSERVING THE STRIKING COLOURS OF THE PASSIFLORA CURIOSITY.

RAISED TIMBER PLATFORM ACCESIBLE THROUGH TIMBER RAMP, INCLUDES STUNNING INTERACTIVE VIEWS OF THE REST OF THE GARDEN OVER THE WISHING WELL. YOU ARE ABLE TO ADMIRE CURIOSITIES ON SHELVES AND IN MESHED CAGES ALONG THE HEDGE, WHILE OTHERS WILL BE LOOKING DOWN THROUGH MESHED GAPS AT YOU. ABOVE THE TIMBER PLATFORM THERE IS A REPRESENTATION OF BUDDHAS FOOT WHERE PEOPLE CAN SIT ON WHILE LOOKING AT THE CAGED FERN FLOWER. THIS AREA IS PAVED WITH BARK TO GIVE AN ODOUR RESEMBLING THE SMELL OF A CURIOSITY SHOP

SECTION A-A SCALE 1:50

WALKING FROM THE MESHED ARCHWAY YOU CAN EITHER TAKE THE RAMP THAT GOES UP TO THE TIMBER PLATFORM, GO DOWN TO THE SUNKEN LEVEL OR STAY ON THE GROUND LEVEL. CUPBOARDS AND CAGES WITH CURIOUS OBJECTS ARE HERE TO CATCH YOUR ATTENTION AND VARIOUS VIEWS ARE IN FRONT OF YOU FOR AN EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCE.

SECTION B-B SCALE 1:100

CUPBOARDS CREATE A NARROW PASSAGE WHERE THE 4 O’CLOCK PLANT CAN BE FOUND AND THE PASSAGE LEADS TOWARD THE TREE OF LIFE AMOUNG A MIXED MEADOW THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THROUGH GAPS CREATED IN CUPBOARDS

HERE ARE MORE CUPBOARDS AND SHELVES WITH CRAZY OBJECTS, STATUES AND MIRRORS. BEHIND THEM A LOWSET CUPBOARD CAN BE USED AS SEATING. CAGES ALSO WILL BE PLACED BY THE HEDGE WITH OTHER FANTASTIC ITEMS TO CATCH YOUR ATTENTION.

SUNKEN LEVEL GROUND TO BE COVERED WITH BARK IN ORDER TO CREATE A STRONG ODOUR TO REFLECT THE SMELL OF A CURIOSITY SHOP. THE CORNER OF THE SUNKEN LEVEL IS A MIXED MEADOW AND THE DANCING TREE WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT MOVING. IN THIS AREA UNDER THE TIMBER PLATFORM YOU CAN SIT ON THE BUDDHA’S FOOT SURROUNDED BY REPRESENTATION OF CANNA’S OR GO TOWARDS THE WISHING WELL WHERE YOU ENTER A CAGE OVER THE POND AND DREAM ABOUT HAVING YOUR OWN MONEY TREE.

Chaumont Garden Festival - Sections. Date: 13/10/2014 Cesare Cardia, Ellen Roelvink, Jan Novak, Lukasz Wisz, Marcia Vieria, Theo Kidman

THE SENSITIVE TREE STANDS AMONG PANELS OF MIRRORS OF DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS TO CONVEY MOVEMENT & REFLECTION WHILE WALKING THROUGH.

METAL MESH WITH PLANTS GROWING ON IT, WORKS AS ARCHWAY ENTRANCE OVER A DECKED WALKWAY. NARROW GAPS ON EACH SIDE AND ABOVE ALLOW A GLIMPSE OF THE SURROUNDING AREA. AS YOU WALK THROUGH, YOU EXPERIENCE THE SURROUNDING OBJECTS PLACED ON SHELVES & OTHER SURFACES. THEY DRAW YOUR ATTENTION, CREATING AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE.

Le Jardin des Curiosités

SERIES OF CUPBOARDS & SHELVES MADE OF RECYCLED TIMBER WITH A HUGE AMOUNT OF CURIOUS OBJECTS ON EACH SHELF: MIRRORS, GLASS TANKS, ANIMAL HEADS, BOOKS, MARBLES, STATUES AND EXTRAORDINARY OBJECTS TO REFLECT THE FEELING OF BEING IN A CURIOSITY SHOP
