RESILIENCE
One of the major impacts of Hurricane Maria was massive flooding due to poor storm-water management, overflow of combined sewer systems, and the abundance of impervious surfaces. Even though floods cannot be avoided green infrastructure and resilient design strategies can help protect both residents’ lives and property. Unlike traditional single-use grey-infrastructure that moves water from one place to another, layered and multifunctional green infrastructure could enhance the island’s capacity to recover from adverse events. An interdisciplinary and integrated discussion between the several design disciplines, public policy advocates, science, social sciences, the insurance sector, and community organizations is essential to develop and/ or identify green infrastructure strategies that could be employed by local communities. Hurricane Maria also exposed the fragile and precarious state of our electrical infrastructure. To this date, a significant portion of the island’s population is still without power. It is estimated that some areas will be without electrical service until mid-2018. Equitable access to clean and renewable energy can aid in the resilient recovery and economic development of Puerto Rico. Our communities should be able to recover fast from power outages and have access to backup power to achieve normal operations. The inclusion of other forms of renewable energy production is crucial not just for our resilient recovery, but also for a sustainable and thriving economy. A holistic and multidisciplinary approach to resiliency is fundamental to pursue a healthy, sustainable, and shock-resistant Puerto Rico. It is imperative to develop mitigating and adaptive design

CURRENT DEVELOPMENT With Gainesville becoming increasingly attractive for manufacturers and tech companies, the space for production becomes limited. This development, located just north, provides the space, leisure, and accessibility to I-75 that downtown Gainesville fails to provide. Along with commercial space, San Felasco Tech City will incorporate new housing, recreation, and opportunities for a community to thrive. Linking Gainesville, Alachua, and the surrounding northeast Florida region.

SPRING 2019
INSTRUCTOR: MARTIN GOLD COMPETITION SECOND PRIZE
PROPOSED TOWER To facilitate the growth and success of an ambitious development, a multiprogrammatic tower is to be constructed formed around the worlds tallest indoor climbing wall, summiting at 150 ft. Multiple unique programmatic elements are to populate this vertical neighborhood, aimed at promoting a healthy life, wellbeing, and social diversity. Including a connection to the adjacent San Felasco Hammock State Preserve bike trails, a wellness center, a unique vertical brewery, and a resturant at the peak overlooking the Hammock. All arranged in a vertical interconnected village acting as a catalyst for improved human health and connectivity.

Tasked with collaborating with construction management students to construct our own development group - Affiinity Development Group - and work in an interdisciplinary function to design a competition project. Assigned with designing a multiprogrammatic tower linking Gainesville with the town of Alachua, serving as a tech hub forstartupcompaniestoflocktowards. As well as acting as a tourism hub that would promate a healthy well being and lifestyle alongside it’s forward thinking tech partners.Being adjacent to the University of Florida serves as a catalyst towards student envolvement and innovative opportunities.
