Nubian Square Performing Arts Center YiCheng Tsai Project 3 | Spring 2021 Prof. Delara Rahim
To investigate the interstices between contemporary music, poetry, and architecture. To discover / uncover and diagrammatically articulate compositional and spatial concepts, familiar to all three disciplines, for the purpose of conceptually informing the design of the Nubian Square Performing Arts Center. This project aims to create a building that participate in public life and stimulate the social interaction. The main concept is all about the experience when circulating the buiding. The front facade shows the hierachy of a grand staircase that guide the community to the upper floor. The entrance for the auditorium and the gallery is on the second floor with a pavilion that provides the public a cozy experience overlooking the green space below. The outdoor performance is a open and airy space with a glass ceiling on the top. Bringing back the community and create a cohesive network by easy pedestrian access throughout the cafe, staff working area, performance space, the art gallery and the green space.

Mission Hill Community Center YiCheng Tsai Project 2 | Fall 2020 Prof. Lora Kim
This project aims to draw community together and enjoy their time in the cafe, restaurant and the exhibition space. The front facade is very transparent so people could clearly look inside the lobby and the gym. The exhibition is at the heart of the building with huge amount of glass allowing people to look at in 360 view. By shiftiing the massing and the program, there’s three small outdoor balcony provide for people to hang out and relax. Lots of ramps are included because of the topography of the site. Circulation is the main force behind the design. Overall, Mission Community Center attract people and create a safe and lovely community.
Boat Building School
Antique Bookstore YiCheng Tsai Project 3 | Spring 2020 Prof. Jay Weber
The first project with a clear program description. This is an antique bookstore with a specific structural bearing wall system. My main concept for this bookstore is to increase transparency on the upper floor to invite people going up from the street. The heart of the building has a elevator with bookshelves surrounding the stairs creating a unique experience while circulating the building.

Pavilion of Loneliness YiCheng Tsai Project 5 | Fall 2019 Prof. Troy Peter Main concept is to create an outdoor space for individual to experience. This huge cube will give people a feeling of isolation and loneliness. This cube could be place in the middle of dessert or ocean. People will then realize how small they are and how large the world is. The facade looks like a continuous thick line as if time is going and so is life. People have a deep understanding of themselves about their purpose of life and the meaning behind it.
