There are a lot of misconceptions about writing jobs online. Here, we'll take a look at three of the most common so you know exactly what you're getting into if this is a work-from-home opportunity that interests you. I. Writing Jobs Online Are Scams; They're Not Real Opportunities This is perhaps one of the biggest myths. Although, it's pretty easy to understand why. There are a lot of unscrupulous people who take advantage of the fact that many people are desperate to find legitimate work-from home jobs. But, there are real, bona fide writing jobs that you can do online - from the comfort of home, in your pajamas. I know; I do it every day. But, you do have to know how to spot the scams. One of the easiest ways to do it is if they ask for money upfront. Usually, this will be in the form of paying for a membership to get job leads, or subscribing to some type of job lead databank. Why You Should Never, Ever Pay for Leads for Possible Writing Jobs Online Don't fall for it, don't fall for it. I've been a freelance writer since 1993 and have never, ever paid for a job lead - ever. Legitimate work-from-home writing jobs can be found all over the net - for free. In fact, legitimate companies pay you to write for them because your content helps to drive more traffic (and sales) to their site. They don't have to make their money off of you, the writer. They're making their money from advertisers and/or the product/services they're selling on their website. II. Writing Jobs Online Don't Pay a Lot Again, it's easy to see why this myth exists. When you see ads on bid-for pay sites like the following,, yeah, you'd surmise that this type of freelance writing is a waste of time. Seeking writer to produce 10 articles on "how to make wire jewelry." Articles must be at least 400 words. Rate $1 article. Must be in perfect English. Must be original; will check via Copyscape. But it's not true. Writing jobs online rates can be quite high - if you know where to look and how to market for them. III. You Must Have Experience to Apply for Writing Jobs Online
This is perhaps the biggest myth. In fact, online writing is much easier to get into than more traditional mediums like newspaper or magazine writing. This is because the need for (SEO) content is so great now. Unlike traditional mediums, you don't have to have samples from this publication or a degree in that discipline. As long as you can prove that you can write, adhere to deadlines and are priced competitively, you can start landing writing jobs online; no experience needed.
