01 Public Space Design
Hand-rendered perspective of Tianjin Zongshang Qingwan Garden in Wuqing Economic Development Zone of China This project is located in Shangqingwan Residential Quarter, Tianjin City, China where the buildings are a contemporary representation of Northeast United States. The buildings are set in a beautiful landscape. At the top of the slope, the trees are full of different colors at different seasons; and at the lower elevations the trees have a uniform color year-round as they are evergreen. Since the housing estate is a “large area estate”, the new neighborhood design incorporate a diversified landscape that utilizes existing natural resources as a way to conserve energy and lower costs. The characteristics of this project are: • Incorporate the local culture with architecture, water and surrounding environment; • Provide the neighborhoods with an ideal environment that inspires creativity and relaxation; • Apply the Economical Beauty Principle: use the most economical and sustainable materials while still providing exciting, new design expressions; • Incorporate green infrastructure: all the stormwater from this site will flow into created wetlands; • Provide open space for people to gather in and enjoy flowers, lawn and plantings during every season; • Use water and natural materials to create tranquil and comfortable place. These images were drawn and rendered by hand, then enhanced with Photoshop.
02 Zoo Design
Created perspective for the Expansion of Anshan City Zoo project of China The zoo area was 11.9 hectares; the proposed expansion brings the total area to 20 hectares after extension. The existing site vegetation is healthy, however, the animal enclosures are in poor condition. The vision for the zoo: based in ecotype design that features habitats specific to animal needs, educational programs, entertainment and research opportunities. The organization of the habitats and landscape allow visitors to see the animals in their native habitat from a variety of viewpoints. These images were created by Photoshop.
03 Scenic Spot Design and Historic Preservation
Designed site plan and created perspective of Environmental Greening Landscape Design for Mount Dingjun Scenic Spot of China Mount Dingjun Scenic Spot——"Azelea under Sunset " Dingjunshan Scenic Area, one of the scenic areas in Dingjunshan Scenic Area of ZhuGe Liang Tomb –the Three Kingdoms Ruins, is located in south of Mianxian County, 5 kilometers from the City of Xi'an. Mt. Dingjun is an ancient battlefield of the Three Kingdoms period. Zhuge Liang, an outstanding politician, diplomat, inventor and strategist is buried at the foot of Mt. Dingjun. The total area of design is 825 mu (1mu=0.067hectares). The design ideas: • • • • •
Emphasize focal, lines and surfaces in the landscape. These are expressed through the memorial space, the walkways and plant masses. Design follows ecological principles to integrate humans with nature; Dense plantings and focus on key locations within the site; Use of native plant communities located in the optimal conditions Heighlight the characteristics of Mt. Dingjun- elevation change, existing flowering vegetation and ancient history.
This scenic spot's landscape is designed to attract songbirds and feature a variety of trees to create rich layers of landscape. Tourists are welcomed to this spot with local stonework, the story of Zhuge Liang and the beautiful landscape. These image was created by 3D Max, then rendered by Photoshop.
04 Park Design
Daylighting of Scajaquada Creek and design Schiller park, Buffalo, New York This was a collaborative effort of Urban Ecology Studio. Our purpose in the daylighting of Scajaquada Creek and the re-design of Schiller Park is to increase the delivery of ecosystem services for the benefit of Schiller Park, the Schiller Park Neighborhood, and the City of Buffalo with regard to stability, economic viability, social interaction mental and physical health and community-scale stewardship. We will accomplish this through a multilayered effort that involves the public and municipal, as well as the county and state government while addressing the intricacies of planning, engineering, design and applied ecology. This effort will be grounded in the principles of biophilic urbanism. It is expected that our approach to this creek daylighting project will be replicatable throughout the Buffalo metropolitan area. These images were drawn by Auto CAD, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, GIS and Sketchup.
05 Transportation Design and Urban planning Freeway removal and vacancy reduction in the downtown, Syracuse, New York
This study is my Capstone project of the graduate program to explore urban revitalization. The study proposed removal of Interstate 81 (from Destiny USA Mall to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center) and, through the application of sustainable design principles, develop strategies for the adaptive reuse of the consequent vacant lands. The strategies for adaptive reuse focused on strengthening the connections between residential, commercial and recreational area; reducing vacancy through mixed-use development and green infrastructure. The purpose was increase property values, and improving the environment. This is mixed-use neighborhood. Mixed-use planning strengthens the character of communities, increases the sense of place within the neighborhood and, through the inclusion of retail and farmers, provides people with fresh and healthy foods easily accessed via foot, bicycle and public transit. Incorporating the principles of walkable and bikeable neighborhoods and an increased accessibility via transit, provides the potential for reduced transportation costs and improvements in residents’ health. Residents there can walk to various services, shopping, schools and jobs. These images were created by Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Auto CAD, Sketchup and V-ray. Goal 1—Improve roads network connectivity and find out the potential ways instead of freeway Objective 1—Remove the freeway and create a safe, beautiful and pedestrian friendly boulevard Objective 2—Focus on multi-modal transportation Objective 3—Consider a variety of transportation improvement options, including improvements to various modes, and mobility management strategies such as pricing reforms and smart growth land use policies.
Rail Existing I-81 Local Transportation Center Freeway Ends Ahead Signal Transition Straight Taper Destiny USA Freeway Ends Intersection New Boulevard Commercial Buildings Mixed-use of Retail, Office and Residential Parks, Plaza, Entertainment, etc
Residential Inner Harbor Main Streets Connect to New Boulevard Private Office Industry
Goal 2—Strengthen connection between residential area with commercial and recreational areas and enhance neighborhoods Objective 1—Reduce vacancy, increase in property values, and create an ecosystem that is complex, diverse, resilient, unique and at apparent objective equilibrium for the delivery of ecosystem services. Objective 2—Create open space, park and commercial buildings for recreation, fitness and commerce. Design visually exquisite backdrops to juxtapose the manicured fields used for open space and other gathering places. Objective 3—Provide opportunities for public art to be incorporated into open space, improve aesthetic of the whole site and create a place with a unique identity that residents are proud to use and care for. Objective 4— Re-purpose abandoned structures on site if they are in an appropriate condition and consider locating new structures on vacant land.
06 Residential Development and Design
Designed preliminary plan and created perspective for the Lakeside Village, Yinchuan, China and designed single family house yards, Los Angeles, California Like the "body of a Phoenix" the central river front corridor is the main focal space of this community. It is to serve as the primary social and outdoor exercise space for all residents. Along this corridor is a large pubilic plaza, one rice terrace-inspired amphitheater, tai-chi lawn, two natural water ponds, a viewing bridge and two arrival plazas.
Lakeside Village's conceptural design consists of an environmentally-sensitive urban forest with a central ribbon of natural riverside-type planting running through the community core. The urban forest is created by large romal grids of densely planted canopy style canopy style trees, creating tight groves that promote play and walking underneath the canopies. We provided both Amercian style and Chinese styple design concepts for the client. These images were created by Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Auto CAD, Sketchup, 3d Max and V-ray.
The architectural style of the homes is contemporary, simple, and bold. Sustainable and unconventional forms, materials, colors, spatial patterns and composition bring artistic temperament to the buildings. A rain water retention basin and bio-filtration system are designed to work with the two water ponds, allowing for a more environmentally sensitive community. The main design features are centrally located within the neigorhood around the water to provide residents easy access. The water features such as wetlands, fountains, and streams located throughout the site make the living environment vivid and interesting.

07 Academic Design
Academic design of Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, Shanxi, China This is the Capstone Project I did for my undergraduate degree. The program used a hybrid design concept: perfectly combine nature and regulation. The design is derived from nature, but higher than that of natural. Adhering to “people-oriented design principles, through an improved ornamental and functional park, I aimed to attract people to participate and enjoy the natural, warm, comfortable environment. Indigenous trees are arranged in appropriate densities and in naturalistic massings for a picturesque view.. Evergreen trees are used as the background with flowers and shrubs to provide color during all four seasons. These images were created by Adobe Photoshop and 3D Max.
08 Handmade Model Assignments of Design Studio By using the special space constructible method, the design was felt to be like the style of Bauhaus which arranged the public and private space, leaning and subordinates space rationally and briefly with good light transmission. I adopted six-meter of tall glass windows and lots of railings to add variety through glamorous combinations of dots, lines, and planes, enhancing its permeability and spaciousness. Moreover, the villa was looking very cute with herringbone attic and tangram-shaped eaves.
Handmade the model of urban plaza mimic the design of other’s.

10 GIS Mapping
Soil, slope, road, population and land cover inventory of Syracuse, New York North of my graduate Capstone study area is Destiny USA mall, to the east is the Washington Square Park, to the south is the Franklin Square and to the west is the Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection. The site inventories through Geographic Information System show me that there is not a population issue because Syracuse has the highest population in Onondaga County. Compare to other places of Syracuse, my study area has the lowest population change in the past ten years which means this site didn’t attract lots of people to come live. Through the existing land cover inventory map, we can see this is high intensity, developed urban areas surrounded by wetlands and forests. So it should be a good choice for people to live here. Most soil in my study area is hydrologic soil group D which means the soil has high runoff potential when thoroughly wet. Water movement through the soil is restricted or very restricted. So I designed some green infrastructure to treat all the stormwater inside of the site. The slope in this site is less than 4%, It provides a good condition for further construction. The other major road--Salina Street parallel the interstate 81 in my study area can distribute some traffic if the freeway change to boulevard. The freeway disturbs the urban landscape through downtown Syracuse.
