ELECTRICAL MACHINES IN SITU & WORKSHOP REWINDS High voltage rewind capability for all major motor & generator brands
Parsons Peebles have extensive experience with in situ or service shop HV rewinds for all major brands. Our in-house manufactured quality coils and skilled winders ensure your machine will return to as new performance
ELECTRICAL MACHINES IN SITU & WORKSHOP REWINDS A TRUSTED REWIND PARTNER High voltage electric motors drive critical equipment and failure or reliability issues are generally very costly. Low quality rewinds or substandard repairs can lead to a cycle of more spend and interruption to your process that can hurt your bottom line.
We are as comfortable rewinding other OEM machines as we are Parsons Peebles motors & generators. Parsons Peebles rewinds – value-add, high quality and long lasting!
At Parsons Peebles our OEM pedigree provides us with the advantage over many rewind and service shops as we fully analyse every motor or generator and its system requirements before servicing it. In this way we not only provide a long lasting repair but one based on root cause analysis such that we prolong mean time between maintenance. We use in house manufactured coils, extensively test throughout each stage of the rewind and utilise a team of highly skilled service technicians. This allows us to offer workshop or in situ rewinds that return your machine to as new condition and in some cases even to higher efficiencies than before repair.

WORKSHOP REWINDS Value add rewinds that are quality, long lasting and more than just a coil replacement. We always strive to identify if there are any machine or system issues than could have caused the winding failure in the first instance - a true value add service. A Quality Rewind, But More Too Following a thorough machine examination and understanding of site conditions we will produce a detailed report that details any stator / rotor rewind work but also any further remedial work required. We will also provide any findings on motor loading or system issues that will help you prolong motor life in future.
A typical process is shown in the diagram below. This culminates in a full load test, if requested, to provide ultimate peace of mind.
When it comes to our actual rewind we take great care in removing old coils and conduct testing throughout the rewind to verify key machine parameters. Our extensive experience in building new machines means we don’t just rewind a machine, we can fully diagnose root causes and both repair and engineer out reliability issues e.g whilst rewinding if we uncover any core damage we can replace core packs to maximise motor efficiency after repair.

IN SITU REWINDS Where practical and to reduce cost we have the capability to rewind motors and generators in situ. We are experienced in safely conducting workshop quality repairs even on sites with access issues or other challenges. Quality On Site Rewinds Our site experience and mobile diagnostic equipment means that in situ rewinds, particularly of larger machines, is a practical alternative to return to workshop services in many cases.
PROLONGING WINDING LIFE
This service can reduce site disruption, machine downtime and costly shipping costs and if carried out by Parsons Peebles will result in as high a quality rewind as could be achieved in a workshop setting.
Rather than just replace windings on site or at our workshop we want to make sure the repair lasts. We rely on our wealth of site experience to remove the likelihood of premature winding failure. Typical areas we are on the look out for are:
A Fully Qualified and Accredited Team Our service technicians are fully qualified to operate in hazardous and offshore environments and well used to working along with our customers to efficiently achieve a quality outcome. We are a trusted partner with experience in oil & gas, power and industrial applications and have worked with all the major oil companies and utilities. This is backed up by our full set of accreditations: » ISO 9001 – Quality Management System » ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System » BASEEFA – ATEX QA Notification / IECEx Quality Assessment » Utilities Vendor Database, Achilles (UVDB) – Verified » Association of Electrical & Mechanical Trades (AEMT) » Hazardous area machine manufacture & repair » Certified Repair Personnel
» Bearing issues, particularly at drive end » Coupling alignment or imbalance » Environmental factors such as moisture, contaminants or abrasion sources that can damage insulation or cause motor overheating » Motor or driven equipment vibration issues » Power quality issues such as voltage transients or imbalance

IN HOUSE COIL PRODUCTION The most critical part of any rewind process is the coil itself. Parsons Peebles manufacture all their coils at their sister company, Preformed Windings. This in-house capability provides complete control over quality, delivery, specification and design. Quality, Speed & Precision
Coil Upgrade Expertise
Preformed Windings have almost 50 years expertise in delivering high quality coils for high voltage motors and generators. They can supply the full range of coils types for Parsons Peebles and other OEMs, including:
Unlike many manufacturers that will simply copy previous coil designs resulting in similar or even poorer machine performance, due to inferior coil production processes, we are different. In many cases Parsons Peebles will work with Preformed Windings to upgrade the coils used for the rewind. Using their collective experience they can where appropriate improve designs as follows:
» » » » » » »
Diamond coils Armature coils Concentric coils Rotor bars DC/AC traction coils 400 V - 16 kV Resin Rich, VPI & all major conductor & insulation types
All coils are tested extensively throughout our looping, shaping, forming, pressing and taping processes and include tan delta, inter-turn and partial discharge tests. This ensures all coils comply with international standards and provide the longest possible service life.
5
» Increased copper cross section – to improve heat transfer, reduce I2R loss and winding temperature, which ultimately improves motor efficiency » Upgraded coil insulation materials – again this can ultimately provide small but important gains to motor efficiency, saving you money » Reduced coil drop – can make the coil easier and faster to fit and in some cases allow for diamond coils rather than more expensive bars to be used in a rewind In summary the coils used for your rewind will normally be superior to those being replaced.
