Isover Student Competition 2013 - 1st prize - national stage Project team: Lupu Sebastian Carapanu George Bianca Dobru Location: Mannheim, Germany Theme: Sustainable Living and landmark rehabilitation ASSIGNEMENT: The participants to ISOVER Multi-Comfort House Students Contest2013 Edition were required to present a vision of the future development of some parts of the “Giuckstein Quartie(‘ in Mannheim, Germany, taken into account the existing realities. The project will require the development of residential function based on the Saint-Gobain Multi Comfort principle that will assure a natural extension of the existing neighbourhood to the North. In addition, the development shall improve the usage of the green area while creating a link with the existing housing stock of the so called Lindenhof.

Proposal Lighting
The design of the park area was based on the position of the existing linden trees. This became the centerpoint in developing the paved and green areas. Each tree has historical value(national symbol) and is highlighted by sitting areas which sorround each tree.Across the park are pathways that link the new residential area with the existent Lindenhof Area and key points of the park By moving building B away from the street we were able to create an intermediate space between the two historic buildings and our proposal.By cutting in into three different objects, a visual link is created which highlights not only the historic buildings but the park as well. Assignement: revitalize an old industrial area in Nottingham, by creating sustenable housing complex and restoring two existing werehouses.
Site Plan
The project is conceived as a unit capable of sustaining itself from an energetic point of view but also on a social level. One of the main ideas is to introduce a new function based on medieval methond of trading :•bank of time. The working method is exchanging spare time for community maintenance. The aim of this function on a social level is to make the community interact more. Being located in the site core it becomes a transition space but also a barrier between public and private spaces.

Assignement: revitalize existing park with a new landscape improvement and a function which would bring more people in this neighborhood. The main idea of this project was to create a connecting space between the two existing parks that could house revitalising function. Seeing as how the predominant function is living with a few exeptions of basic neighborhood neccesities, we thought it best to bring more culture in the area. We proposed a cultural center with daycare and sports capabilities(library- in relation with all the school in the area, sports- in relation with the existing sports park: DINAMO. Also the existing cinema would be refurbished and put to educational purposes.

In most European countries, information from a newcomer’s point of view is something that everybody else has, you being one of the few that lack it. Having an accurate source of imformation is very important, especially for a tourist and even for residents. It has reach a certain level and can almost be compared with air and water. The need for an INFO POINT is born. If we decompose the idea of information we can conclude that there are three main ways to experience it: visually, auditory and olfactory. Having isolated these methods, we can see that this pavillion can not only give information but help people experience some of the information acumulated via The Urban Simulator. This system work similar to the online maps sistems currently on the web the plus factor being the enhanced level of detail of the street view and also they’re status is being updated daily.

Arhetipuri Architecture Competition - Manifest to historic degradation The purpose of this urban installation is to highlight „Rapa Galbena” (ex-Queen Elizabeth esplanade) but also to remind the people that even though this monument has been restored, that doesn’t mean that every monument is going to be restored. The concept revolves around the idea of presenting the current restored monument in it’s previous state ( a state in which most are currently in: derelict) thus making the people more aware that architecture is ephemeral and needs our care to survive. To achieve the sensation of a „derelict monument” , three types of panels are put together in a manner in which they form an incomplete or fragmented image of the ensamble. We chose to use all three spaces given: first and third for informing purpouses and the second for the „main attraction”. The three types of objects will be used (hexagonal shape- we chose hexagons because the shape is easy to work with and can form more complex structures): -first Type is consisted of a metallic object with a mirror finish; -the second type of object is also a metallic one but with a black matte finish and serve as information panels (i.e. informations about this particular monument or another one in a poor state) -third type serves decorational lighting purposes and are made of simple solar light cells and LED lights, just like the ones that can be found in any garden. These panels are placed on a simple 3-point mounting system with a rigid metallic skeleton that can be adjusted to fit our project’s needs. We chose this type of structure because of it’s complete reversability, thus having almost zero impact on the site itself. Another advantage of this system is that we practically don’t have a large permanently occupied space, thus becoming a solution for the 100 sqm requirement. One important aspect is that the arrangement we have illustrated in these pages is simply one of the many options in terms of composition, they can be rearranged periodically, depending on the changes that might occur (lighting conditions, terrain remodelling, gardening and maintenance etc.)
