Celebrating Clermont’s Modern-Rural Legacy

With its quaint villages surrounded by rolling green hills and fertile riverbeds, Clermont County’s relationship to the land is undeniable. And as the “farm to table” craze continues, foodies in Clermont are doing their part to preserve that agricultural tradition by producing and sourcing as much as they can locally—everything from beef and broccoli to haloumi and hops.

A perfect example is Bite Restaurant in Milford. In its eighth year serving the local community, Bite is deeply committed to scratch cooking and food education, serving up dishes for every culinary and dietary persuasion. Bite offers vegetarian/ vegan and gluten-free options, plus traditional fare for carnivores and omnivores alike. Like many Clermont eateries, Bite’s menu centers on organic fruits, veggies, nuts, herbs, honey, and flowers produced directly on the premises, as well as meats, eggs, and other ingredients sourced from nearby partners.

Here’s a look at just some of the local products you’ll find lining shelves, pantries, and tables across Clermont County.

Fresh Markets | From roadside stands to beloved community gathering spaces, you’ll find farmers’ markets of every size and scope in Clermont, including Shaw Farms, Loveland Farmers’ Market, Newtown Farmers’ Market, and Simmons Farm. TCC Berry Farm and Blooms & Berries are two more places visitors can reap the benefits of sun and soil all year round. Get your goats’ milk soap and lotion from Honey Sweetie Farms, and while you’re there, grab a yoga class alongside their Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Freshly relaxed, you can venture over to The Marmalade Lily to purchase—or pick!—fresh flowers for your summer table.

One of the last remaining family farms in eastern Cincinnati, 190- acre Valley View is home to a community garden where more than 60 individuals work the land together, growing and harvesting a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers throughout the year.

Beer & Wine | Many of Clermont’s top beer and wine makers—such as Harmony Hill Vineyards—produce their own source materials directly onsite. Others source quality hops from growers in and around Clermont, such as Scott Farms and Ohio Valley Hops, making it possible to raise a glass of Ohio’s best any time of year.

Poultry & Eggs | Clermont residents and visitors can enjoy farm-fresh eggs and poultry from providers like Woodbottom Farms in Bethel and Phillips Farm in Batavia, offering chicken, duck, turkey, pheasant, and quail that are certified free from commercial herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics, and growth hormones.

Meats | 132-acre Emmett Ridge Farm in New Richmond has long raised sustainable beef, heritage breed pork, free range poultry and eggs, and fresh produce. In recent years, the family-owned farm has expanded to hosts weddings, corporate events, and parties.

Maple Syrup |

Maple season runs from early February to mid-March, but visitors can enjoy the delicious concoction year-round from providers like Clough Valley.
