Balang Tonjong Lake Planning with Interactive Public Space Concept The planning of balang tonjong lake area is an idea as Makassar city resident for improving the quality and quantity of public space in Makassar City, especially green open space. This project was done to get a bachelor degree in urban and regional planning.

Abstract The objective of this planning is to improve the spatial quality of Balang

Based on theory comprehension and case studies of interactive public

Tonjong Lake Area and at the same time to reform the appearance of

space planning in several regions, the author applies the main variables

public space in the eastern part of Makassar. The 138 hectares area was

in the planning of this area. These variables include cluster, transect,

originally expected to be a strategic public space due to its location being

connection, center, parking, edges, and diverse activities. Of course,

immediately adjacent to the provincial road. However, the lake area

congestion, commercial and non-commercial activities interfering with each other, the emergence of informal settlements, pedestrian activity disturbance from unclear parking regulation, deteriorating quality of lake water, piled up and scattered garbage, low-quality sanitation, and the ourishing of wild plants. The author then justiďŹ ed that Balang Tonjong Lake area with its variety of problems requires spatial quality improvement eorts which begins with planning the area with the concept of interactive public spaces.

The outcomes of this plan are the master plan, detailed plans of each variable, as well as project phasing plan and budget detail of interactive public space in Balang Tonjong Lake area. These outcomes together are expected to pose as a solution to the various problems that exist in the area and at the same time to improve stakeholders' awareness to take part in creating the ideal Balang Tonjong Lake Area. General Description Balang Tonjong is a lake with an area of 52 hectares that used to function as a water catchment lake to control oods. However, the condition is now neglected so that it is clear there has been a degradation of the environment and the degradation of the function of the area. At present, the surface of the lake is ďŹ lled with water hyacinth plants (Eichhornia Crassipes) which have degraded water quality in the lake, disrupted water circulation, and caused the shallowness of the lake's surface. Also, around the lake appear market conditions, educational areas, residential areas, and commercial corridors that are not well organized and well maintained, resulting in the Lake area to be polluted and chaotic.

Spatial planning on the south side is to build a court along the edge of the lake. This is to reduce the intensity of congestion by moving the centers of activities that cause traďŹƒc jams such as markets and parking lots to the lake court.

Centers The planning of center in the Lake Balang Tonjong area is divided into three types of centers, namely the main center (reviving), supporting center (reviving), and supporting center (existing). Each center is interrelated and has their respective roles in accommodating various activities that will be generated on Lake Balang Tonjong.

Connection The connection plan aims to optimize connectivity between the regional center and the planning area with other areas in the vicinity. To achieve this goal, the connection plan added several new roads, road facilities, and the bus stops at several points (assuming the distance of 200 m is easily accessed by people on foot).

Conclusion This plan makes various improvements to existing problems through the concept of interactive public spaces. Some of the improvements are the addition of facilities to support activities and the relocation of activities so that they can reduce existing problems in the area. This plan can also stimulate public and government concern through interactive public spaces so that the community and government together develop and maintain this lake as one of the public spaces in Makassar that has reached its ideal condition.

Lack of Green Open Space as a barrier along riverbanks, lack of handling in the quality and quantity of infrastructure and facilities, as well as lack of integration between regions is a problem in the Kali Code river area. Its location on the riverbank also makes the settlement there vulnerable to disasters such as landslides and oods. Ideas The skywalk is connecting activities centers in the Bungoro crossing area. The center of the activity is the market, bus stops, mosque, and parking spots. This skywalk stretches and integrates all four sides of the Bungoro intersection area with a height of 5 meters and a width of 3 meters corridor. It is designed to reduce accidents, become an iconic attraction for Pangkep Regency, and can be a new place of activity for the surrounding community.
