Welcome to the 2020 North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards

This evening is about recognising, rewarding and celebrating those companies that are innovating in the food and drink sector in the North East of Scotland. Tonight, we will see a range of new retail and foodservice products, thriving business of all sizes, organisations that continue to recognise the importance of investing in a skilled workforce and the next generation of food and drink entrepreneurs. We are also delighted this year to introduce a new category for Sustainability to reward a manufacturer who is demonstrating leadership in response to the climate emergency. Sustainability is a fitting theme given that this is the 30th year of the Food & Drink Awards. Congratulations to all tonight’s finalists.

Full details of all the companies and products are available via the Awards website: www.nesfoodanddrinkawards.co.uk @NESAwards #NESAwards

North east Scotland has considerable strengths in food, drink, agriculture and seafood and many opportunities for development, with well-established food and drink businesses, a wide range of produce, strong brands, many new businesses, international connections and notable growth success stories. The region also leads the production of Scotland’s quality primary produce, makes over a fifth of Scotland’s manufactured food and drink products and provides complete and transparent production chains from soil and sea to customer, meeting growing consumer demand for trust and traceability. Combined with fishing, the sectors directly employ more than 22,000 people in the north east, with food and drink manufacturing companies turning over more than £2.2 billion per annum. The North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards - delivered in partnership by Aberdeenshire Council and Opportunity North East - are a key component of a proactive programme to expand the industry in the region through product and market innovation, accelerating growth, internationalisation, rapid productivity improvement and skills development. Stimulating growth and catalysing transformational change will help to deliver the national and regional ambition of growing Scotland’s food, drink, agriculture and fishing sectors by 5% per annum, doubling turnover and exports by 2030.
