ClienT Petris, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is a world-class technology solution provider for the energy industry. Through its network integration solutions and expert technical support, Petris helps exploration and production (E&P) companies capture, process, store, analyze, and share business critical data across an entire enterprise, enabling: uu Better, more timely decision-making uu Reduced project cycle times uu Reduced operating expenses
uu Summary: Petris was seeking a partner who could provide major system upgrades, scalability, and complete re-engineering to the company’s production and drilling management solutions thus allowing them to better compete in the global energy market. uu Technologies Used: .Net 3.5 (WCF, WinForms), MS SQL 2008, MS Synch
Challenge Petris development executives calculated that the project would require significant additional resources. Since there was no practical way they could staff up in time, the decision was made to outsource much of the work in order to expedite completion and rollout.
Results With Luxoft’s help, the Petris team has been able to successfully complete the development of the PetrisWINDS Operations Management Suite , enabling Petris to greatly expand its target market to include companies of all sizes worldwide.
The exploration and production of oil and gas is a global, 24/7 business that runs on information, which must be acquired, managed and shared to maximize its value. With demand for oil and gas at an all-time high coupled with a growing shortage of critical skills, companies need solutions that help them make better and faster decisions while preserving knowledge and reducing risk. Oil and gas assets are by their very nature data intensive. With modern acquisition, networking and collaboration technology, Energy industry managers are overloaded with well bore, seismic, drilling, production, interpretation and leasehold data, yet the management of that data is possibly the single most important activity an energy producer can undertake. With over 500 customers around the world, Petris is a fast-growing Houston-based company that pioneers innovative approaches to manage the vast universe of data inherent in the energy industry. By leveraging the power of network technologies, Petris enables company-wide access to business critical assets including data, information, software, and knowledge. Since the mid-1990’s, Petris has been successfully developing and marketing web-based, vendor-neutral technology solutions to resolve large and complex data management issues. These solutions enable oil and gas companies to realize increased value from their exploration, production and pipeline assets by greatly reducing project cycle times and operating expenses.

One of the firm’s key products is PetrisWINDS Operations Management Suite™ (OMS), the industry’s first fully integrated, enterprise solution for managing, storing, processing, and analyzing drilling and production data. The key products within the suite include AFE Manager, Material Transfer Manager, Property Master, Well Lifecycle Manager, and Production Manager. These tools are used to address specific needs of oil field operations and to provide real-time access to operational and financial information across the E&P enterprise. The previous product suite was functionally rich, but before the new version of OMS could be introduced to all the energy companies worldwide, it needed to be completely re-engineered to include several additional features, internationalization and scalability. The “next generation” project would be massive, requiring significant skilled resources to complete. Since recruiting, hiring and training several people in time to meet their delivery goals was not practical, Petris management turned to the experts at Luxoft for onshore and offshore support.
Luxoft Delivers with On-Demand Technology Expertise Although Petris issued a formal RFP to three outsource vendor candidates, it was Luxoft that quickly emerged as the clear choice. With nearly 3000 employees, Luxoft provides world-class innovation and added value to its clients through flexible delivery models, the world’s best IT talent pool, low attrition rates, and highest security and quality standards. Luxoft built its technology services success on a foundation of deep product engineering expertise. With this insight, along with knowledge of numerous technologies, off-the-shelf components and platforms, Luxoft creates customized software solutions to meet clients’ specialized requirements. Established originally in 1995 as a software development center of IBS, the largest and most successful Russian IT holding company, Luxoft was incorporated as a separate entity to focus on the growing market for offshore software services in the U.S. and Europe in 2000. Luxoft’s core value proposition is to help clients succeed in the marketplace by applying technology, services and engineering excellence to complex problems and critical business issues. Petris managers were impressed with Luxoft’s technological expertise, competence, and credentials, as well as their low corporate turnover. The firm had previous experience working closely with Luxoft’s parent company as well, so that became another positive determining factor in awarding the contract. Of course, Luxoft’s competitive pricing helped tipped the scales in their favor. “We are very impressed with Luxoft,” says Prakash Roopani, Development Manager for Production and Drilling Management Solutions at Petris. “From an internal perspective, it’s been very stable.” The project was launched with just 3 Luxoft employees in October 2008. The team was ramped up to 12 Luxoft employees in Q2 2009, most of them were based in Luxoft’s St. Petersburg, Russia location. Luxoft - Case Study

“This was our rst experience working with a Russian-based outsource partner,” Roopani adds. “They were very professional, responsive and always willing to accommodate changes.” AFE Manager, the rst product in the OMS suite to be released, was completed in April 2009. Subsequently, the team released two additional products in September 2009. The third release is planned for March 2010. The project is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2010. With PetrisWINDS Operations Management Suite, Petris is now able to aggressively and condently target all energy companies around the world.
