THE COOLEST H OT E LS TO TRY THIS SUMMER

5

S

ummer is synonymous with idyllic seaside getaways and quick weekend jaunts to places that exude charm and sophistication. For some, that means sipping ice-cold rosÊ under the turquoise skies of Santorini, living la dolce vita in Puglia, and roaming the cobblestone streets until the sun sets in southern Spain. This summer, head to the lesser-known landscapes where super-chic hotels await with an unforgettable escape. Whether you seek a more under-the-radar French retreat, a secret Italian island hideaway, or the greatest Greek Isles additions — here are 10 of our favorite hotels to inspire your travels!

6

La Fiermontina

LECCE, PUGLIA, ITALY Once a 17th-century house within the city walls of the unofficial capital of southern Puglia, La Fiermontina is a chic contemporary stay set amid the baroque structures of Puglia’s historic city of Lecce. A modern-day masseria that mirrors its storied surroundings, the 16-room boutique property features a gorgeous pool, an impressive art collection and divine food. All guest rooms have a gentle monastic feel to their minimalist décor, with pietra di Trani stone floors, star-pinnacled ceilings, vintage modernist furniture, and modern art (including rare pieces by Le Corbusier). Olive trees surround the swimming pool in the sculpture garden, a rarity in the old quarter and the restaurant offers a modern, light take on traditional Pugliese cuisine.

Greydon House

NANTUCKET, MASSACHUSETTS On the tiny island of Nantucket, nestled between Colonial and Quaker-style buildings in the center of town, you’ll come across the chic new Greydon House, an 1850s Greek Revival mansion. The 20-room boutique hotel is dressed in creamy whites and crisp blues with accents of brass and feature seafarer paintings. The living room, peppered with low-slung vintage sofas, features a pine-topped bar for pouring classic New England libations. You’ll frequently find the famed cocktail cart roaming the halls between rooms peddling pre-dinner drinks. Grab the complimentary beach bag stuffed with towels, blankets, and Beautycounter sunscreen sticks, and head to the windswept beaches for a low-key day in Nantucket.

Attaché Tip

: Discover the trio of Nantucket’s three historic lighthouses, each a quintessence of coastal New England

beauty.

La Co(o)rniche

PYLA-SUR-MER, CAP FERRET, FRANCE Dubbed the Cape Cod of France, Cap Ferret is one of the best kept secrets that only the French seemingly know. The beachy headland west of Bordeaux forgoes glamour for the simpler things: surfing, fishermen’s cottages and freshly shucked oysters. Located in a the heart of a preserved site, the 29-room boutique boasts breathtaking views over the Bassin d’Arcachon and the dune de Pyla, the highest dune in Europe. It’s the pinnacle of seaside sophistication: outside, you’ll find striped lounge chairs line an infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic, while inside, bold white interiors are met with pastel clapboard walls, asymmetrical mirrors and floor-to-ceiling curtains. The hotel restaurant’s views of the Dune du Pilat and Arcachon Bay are reason enough to go, but so too are its platters of fresh langoustines, clams, mussels and oysters.

Sikelia

PANTELLERIA ISLAND, ITALY On Italy’s undiscovered Pantelleria Island, you’ll find a sleek, sophisticated and secreted hideaway called Sikelia. Sitting high on the hill of the Italian island, just 62 miles southwest of Sicily and some 40 miles from Tunisia, the newly opened Sikelia offers a dramatic setting to say the least. Housed within porcelain-white dammusi, the island’s iconic ancient stone dwellings, the 20-room boutique retreat is an atmospheric escape with effortless style. It’s impeccably designed and filled with clever, luxurious details: embroidered Frette linens and sculptural Gessi fixtures nod to Italy’s knack for functional luxury, while pieces by acclaimed Italia artist Gennaro Avallone accent both the rooms and Sikelia’s common areas.

Attaché Tip

: The Sikelia Culinary Experience combines a tour to the secret corners of the island and authentic local flavors with the recipes of the resort’s restaurant Thema.

Summercamp

MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MASSACHUSETTS The iconic Wesley Hotel in Martha’s Vineyard has been reborn as Summercamp, combining both history and whimsy, with bright splashes of color inside—think eye-catching oranges plus sleek teals—and all-around camp-themed details. The name is a tribute to the Methodist camp grounds that once occupied the Oak Bluff grounds in the 19th century and is a modern revival with the fairytale gingerbread cottages that sit directly behind it. The 95-room property channels the nostalgia of your childhood summer camp, with a game room, old school canteen, and even an Instagram scavenger hunt.

Warm, earthy tones dominate in the guest rooms. The emphasis everywhere is on refined luxury. Expect flawless service, a fabulous location, a luxurious spa, exquisite rooms and exceptionally good food.

Canaves Oia Epitome SANTORINI, GREECE

Inspired by traditional Cycladic architecture, the hotel combines natural, earthy materials with modern design and style. Each of the 24 super-luxe villas comes with a private plunge pool, but should you upgrade to a family villa you’ll get an infinity pool with private cabanas and a terrace. Epitome’s claim to fame is being the only property on the island to offer both sea and sunset views from each room! Live the life of luxury with top-tier facilities and services, including a complete fitness area, boutique, personalised butler service, champagne breakfasts and daily yoga sessions.

Golden Door

SAN MARCOS, CALIFORNIA Golden Door — the storied, ultra-luxe retreat sometimes referred to as the “Mrs. Astor of spas”— is set on 600 acres of California grove land two hours south of Los Angeles. Founded in 1958 as a health spa for Hollywood starlets, Golden Door was the country’s first destination spa and for decades has been known as one of the best. Guests come to check out of reality and check in to some customized R&R — daily massages, gourmet meals, lectures on mindfulness and the promise of no interruptions. or businesses worldwide, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not only of major importance from a business perspective, but also has a major impact on all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental. At Luxury Attaché, CSR is vitally important to who we are as a company. We are proud inaugural sponsors of Broadway’s Babies, an organization that uses the arts as a bridge to bring education, compassion, and possibility to children in need around the world.

Broadway’s Babies was founded in 2016 by Katy Pfaffl and Ben Houghton following their first trip to the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project in India as volunteer music teachers with Artists Striving to End Poverty. “The stories of the children we served and the mission of the school to use education as a means to break the cycle of poverty moved us to dedicate ourselves to the cause using the strongest tools we possessed: our skills as music teachers and our connections within the Broadway community,” says Houghton, adding, “Even in New York City, an arts mecca and one of the wealthiest cities in the world, our programming is the very first arts education that some of our high school students at the Urban Assembly School in East Harlem have ever had.”

Houghton says that the organization’s goal is to be able to offer arts programming to as many communities-in-need as they can. Pfaffl and Houghton believe that the soft skills gained from studying the arts from a young age—communication, emotional management, self-motivation, self-expression, problem solving, critical thinking, and perseverance—are vital keys to long-term success, creating a future full of creative and empathetic adults excelling throughout all professions.

Since its inception in 2016, Broadway’s Babies’ programming has grown from its initial goal to provide music teachers yearround at Shanti Bhavan to include weekly workshops led by Broadway guest-artists in the Women-in-Need homeless shelter system, weekly music classes at two Urban Assembly Schools in Harlem, and hiring four local teachers to lead year-round music, dance, and visual arts programming for two schools in Jacmel, Haiti. Future plans include expanding into more schools and community centers around New York City next year, as well as bringing programming to communities in South Africa and the Philippines within the next few years.

Houghton and Pfaffl see CSR as fundamentally important to the success and growth of the organization. With the money raised by the Broadway community in their fundraising concerts and the support of a few generous private donors, they have been able to start incredible programs around the world. Houghton notes, “CSR initiatives can spawn truly life-changing effects for individuals and communities here and around the world with minimal effort.”
