{LHM} What is the kindest thing that a client has ever said to you? {KH} Nicki, a vivacious motivational speaker and longtime island client, stated that I was her “life line to Kiawah Island real estate” and that she wouldn’t consider making a move without my involvement.
{LHM} What was one of your most favorite transactions this year and why? {KH} The Halsey Connection had a unique opportunity to list a historic island beauty located beside our home on Sullivan’s Island. It had been listed by several real estate companies in the past without success. We developed a wonderful partnership with the out-of-town owner and suggested that he make additional changes to lighten the interior of the home. I staged the home and was instrumental in getting BAR approval to add a pool. We sold the house and have a delightful young family next door! Needless to say, the owner was thrilled with our service.

{LHM} What defines a successful project? {YG} Ultimately, my job is to make people happy. When my clients say, “You turned my house into my home,” I know I’ve succeeded. It’s about creating their wishes, hopes and dreams for a home that is uniquely theirs. My clients know I’m passionate, dedicated and intense. There is no greater joy than helping clients articulate their dreams and turning that into a reality.
{LHM} Any advice for homeowners? {YG} Do your homework. Make a specific list of your needs and another for your desires. Go through as many magazines and books, curating the photos of rooms or vignettes that appeal to you. The more information you can supply gives your designer a detailed insight into what you want to accomplish. Another service I offer that many clients have found to be of tremendous value is color consultation. Repainting a room or entire house can be very costly! I highly recommend a professional guide you through that process to make sure your home is the perfect reflection of you. Choosing the right color palette can make a huge impact.

{LHM} What makes you unique in your field? {YG} With 40 years of experience I have discovered the best places to shop for my clients. My goal is always to simply develop recommendations for space planning, while utilizing as much of your current furnishings as possible. New accessories, art and plants can transform your old room into one that is fresh and the walls act as a canvas with new paint colors to showcase your belongings. Accessories can make or break a room’s design, sometimes less is more. Ultimately providing the best product for the best value for my clients is key.
