In 2014, Judy’s grandson Trucker Dukes was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. The inspiring story of this spunky little soul fighting childhood cancer touched the lives of people all over the world. The way the Dukes ohana worked together to try and eradicate the cancer while loving on each other is an example for us all. We want to thank Judy and her ohana for making Trucker part of this world, if only for a short while.

awaii’s luxury real estate market expanded as projected in 2016, and is expected to continue experiencing positive growth into 2017. Despite a year of global and national unrest, Hawaii’s economy for the most part has been shielded from much of the volatility. As a result, we have experienced growth in key areas that affect the real estate sector, such as the labor market, construction, tourism and visitor spending.
Statewide, Hawaii’s luxury market of $3M+ underwent tremendous growth in 2016, with a 36% increase in sales over 2015.

Oahu luxury sales jumped 103%, experiencing the largest boost in the islands and contributing significantly to the overall statewide increase. Maui’s luxury market sales increased 15% over 2015, while Kauai and Hawaii Island both dropped in sales volume by 59% and 3% respectively. Despite these two islands’ decline from 2015 to 2016, all islands have seen positive, continual growth in luxury property sales since 2010. Oahu in particular serves as a prime example of the effect new development can have on the luxury market. A closer look into the composition of these sales reveals the majority were a direct result from condominium projects in two neighborhoods, Kaka‘ako and Waikiki. Within the $3M+ price range, Kaka‘ako experienced a 71 unit increase over 2015 and Waikiki saw a 36 unit increase. 2016 also brought an increase of foreign capital to the islands with purchases of luxury property. Statewide, the islands saw 71 sales by foreign buyers, a 294% increase of 53 sales over 2015. Among all foreign buyers statewide in the luxury market, the majority were purchased by Japanese buyers (73%), primarily on Oahu.
