Tax Hungry Lawmakers Attack Fisherman MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — If you are not a big ice angler, you have been missing out on fishing a frozen lake in the lap of luxury. Today’s portable ice fishing shelters are things of pure beauty and comfort.

And until this season, there was no need to license them because they are towed off the lakes when not in use and therefore, and are not considered a permanent shelter by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

However, the 2017 Legislature changed the law to now include wheeled shelters under and requiring them to be licensed.

At Clearwater’s Outlet Recreation, Ice Castle-brand wheeled fishing shelters are flying off the lot.

“This is not your grandpa’s ice fishing house anymore. It’s not that shack out there,” said Joe Erickson of Outlet Recreation. “It’s not just a fish house anymore. It’s a camper, it’s a hunting shack, it’s everything the family wants, not just necessarily only the ice fisher.”

It is like the literal cabin on wheels, with all the comforts of land.

“The electric bed allows for it to stay out of the way,” Erickson said.

But a recent law change now requires the once “portable” shelters be licensed like any other ice house — creating more revenue for the state.

Weighing a couple of tons, they will need ample ice thickness to safely tow onto the lake. “It’s the joys of being on the ice, seeing the fish come up the hole,” said an ice angler Logan Klinzman.

So for now, guys like Klinzman will still tug a sled until his newly “licensed” luxury castle becomes his winter retreat.

as ones that fold up, collapse or can be disassembled for transport on and off a lake.

Anonymous Members Launch Website Aimed at Helping Veterans A nonprofit, dedicated to helping veterans, is launching amid the excitement of the Big Game. Veterans Anonymous is a nonprofit from the people behind Anonymous, the group known for revealing government corruption and social injustice. From Thursday, February 1 to Sunday, February 4, the group will use a trio of drones and live feed cameras, in and around the festivities, to bring attention to the exploitation of our nation's heroes. There are approximately 44,000 nonprofits claiming to serve veterans, but many only make the process of finding support more difficult. Many also aim to profit off of veterans. Veterans Anonymous is using its background in technology to create a centralized place where veterans can find the information and resources they need. At VA.org, veterans will be able to access a community of support, a database of credible nonprofits, free listings of veteran-owned businesses and the tools to engage in the political process. The launch of VA.org coincides with the launch of drones over the Twin Cities. The drones give anyone, anywhere a bird's eye view of the festivities leading up to the Big Game. Five cameras will take you over and into the biggest events, like the Bold North Zip Line, some of the hottest parties and U.S. Bank Stadium right before Sunday's game. The live feeds will feature ice fishing, snowmobile stunts and music performances by J.Lo, X Ambassadors and more. It can all be watched at SwoopLive.com sponsored by VA.org. Leading this charge is long-time activist Gregg Housh, who in 2008 played a critical role in launching global protests under the Anonymous banner. "I have a unique set of skills developed over a decade. Now, I am leveraging those skills against one of the most critical and complex problems of our day. Veterans Anonymous uses technical solutions to ensure our veterans are not preyed on and are able to live the lives they deserve."

In addition, one of the Show entryways is called the "Ram Entrance" and features a collection of 2019 Dodge Rams. "Minnesotans love their trucks," stated GMADA President Scott Lambert. The "Car of the Show" is the 2019 INFINITI QX50, a luxury mid-size crossover with worldfirst technologies, standout design and enhanced interior space, on an entirely new platform. Another highlight of the Show will be the new Acceleration Alley featuring two Hurst Heritage performance vehicles built by GSS Supercars and the Lexus LC 500 Black Panther (used in the movie of the same name).
