NOMAD FACTORY Architecture Strategy Spring 2019 (February-May) Collaborator: Mengxuan Liu Instructor : David Benjamin, Lindsey Wikstrom Amazon River, Brazil The Nomad Factory aims to switch the deforestation areas in the Amazon into sustainable carbon sinks by ameliorating s o i l c o n d i t i o n a n d o p t i m i z i n g wo o d production. Based on modified cargos, the project employs modular ideas to design nomadic infrastructures including the soil research center, wood factory, and community market. Through reforesting the Amazon, the 50-year scheme assists to boost the local economy and nurture world wood industry.

UTOPLAYGROUND VertiplaygroundSCHOOL Summer 2018 (June-August) Instructor : Dan Wood, Maurizio Bianchi Mattioli East Village, New York Architecture Design GFA=2400 m2 This is a new school typology based on play, where play is a mean to create a microcosm with diverse types of spaces, materials and equipments against banal daily life. By roll traditional programm, the volumes enclose a new space. The new space and the volumes together create a new inner worldthe microworld.

02 0 WASTE ∞ PRODUCT
Urban Typologies for 0 Waste Olympics Fall 2018 (Septmber-December) Partner: Guangyu Wang Instructor : Laurie Hawkinson, Alex Mann Urban Design GFA=6400 are The idea of our project is from 0 waste to infinite products. Waste has always been a serious problem for large cities, especially for cities like L.A. It is expected that there will be about 2.4 billion garbage produced in year 2028. However, there is not enough space for landfills. Therefore, we want to construct a system which can reuse, recycle and compost over 90% percent of the waste generated by the Games. And as a result, we can solve the landfill problem and save lands for the future of LA. The system we proposed can realize the 0-waste plan, starting from the Olympic which includes the waste produced by visitors and different amenities. We tried to use pneumatic system, which is an environment-friendly and efficient method to collect them. And then make use of the energy emerged during the processing and recycling for different products from small scale like paper and bottles to XL programs like the public open spaces and infrastructures, which will finally benefit the local communities. Based on the framework of trash transit and water circulation network, we built permanent and temporary facilities such as the Olympic press center, the trash museum, public sports center, agricultural learning center and so on. We take waste from them and reuse the byproducts produced during the waste handling process which will meet with our aim of 0 waste. What’s more, the new infrastructures will not be limited to the site only. Since the landfill is the main source of carbon emission, we hope that with the development of this kind of urban infrastructure, we can build a completed network for urban waste handling and reuse which will finally reduce the carbon footprint and make a more environmental-friendly urbanism for the city.

There are lots of architecture typologies in different periods of Shanghai hitory-old factories,Lilong houses, shanty towns and new-style residential buildings in the site. Therefore, the method I used in urban planning is combination of preservation and renovation:preservation of historical buildings and renovation of shanty towns. The shanty towns are no longer suitable for living but the living mode there ultimately formed an aesthetics of fragment, so I reserved fragment memory and an exchange program at the same time.Since fragment in the context of the city is a larger scale with the information inside beyond realm of architecture, I tried to use fragment as a filter in the urban design part of a community library. The community library is mainly served for residents living nearby, so the starting point is based on the necessity of them. According to the problems here such as isolated communication and lack of public space, the community library is not only a place for reading but also a place created as a public space shared by Lilong lifestyles.
Community Library Spring 2016 (February-June) City Design Instructor : Gao Xiaoyu Architecture Instructor : Fan Beilei Hongkong District,Shanghai Architecture & Urban Design GFA=2400 m2 This project is a combination of urban renewal and architectural design. I briefly investigated into the situation of this site during the process of urban design, and then introduced a kind of acupuncture-therapy method to do urban design. Based on the urban design we chose one of those sites as base for architectural design. The Li Yang road library is reconstructed from the shanty town in this urban design. I transformed in function according to the basic demand of residents nearby, intending to built a community library to serve them.

Architecture Design GFA=6000 m2 The project Garden Symbiosis is a Grocery Market and Residential Building Complex design, which pay attention to the relationship between fragments. In Tianlin Village, casual fragments full of vigor outside the old order and original urban planning provided me with entry points of design. The operation of the market and the requirement of the residences function structurally as a fragment that connects the other fragments.
