Luis R. Torres Cotto Prof. Nilsa Lugo EDPE 4018 – 001 Weekly Reflection #10 20-24 of October, 2014
This week was my application week to see if my students have learned. On Monday I brought a fishing pond with the school personnel in it. The students were very excited when they saw the fishing pond. Although the activity was very surprising n the beginning it fell after a while so I had to improvise and move around more ask everybody and bring them drag an activity to long even thought I want everyone to participate. On Tuesday we played or favorite game, "Simon Says, commands version". We stood up waved, said Hi! and many more before beginning class. Then, the class reviewed the school personnel and did an activity of matching. Wednesday was a big day for me and my students. This particular day we did an activity in which we went marching in a single file around the school meeting the different school personnel in English. The purpose of this task was to practice what we have learned and to meet the school personnel. Thursday and Friday where exam days. On Thursday, I and my cooperating teacher too students one by one and asked them with the school personnel picture file. I was very satisfied with the result, the huge majority did very well on the test. Although Kindergarten doesn't require it, I tabulated the results. This made me finish my week at school happily. During this week I felt I dragged the topic of school personnel for too long but in the end the students did really good. This unit was my first experience with a Kinder group
University of Puerto Rico – Humacao English Department throughout a whole theme or topic. I had many challenges to deal with, getting used to everything again, making my students like me and making class entertainment. The activity of Wednesday took a bit of time to plan and organize, taking permits and everything, but in that day we had a great time full of learning. I was very nervous during the exam time at Thursday and Friday because I wanted to see if my class got through them and it did. I asked them showing them the pictures and the majority did very good. I finally had fruition this week. I felt good as a teacher and proud of my students. Every day I'm learning, I learned that we have our ups and downs in classes and that we should strive to do better the next time. The class of Wednesday will always be a highlight of my practice teaching. Planning is key to everything, but every now and then is good to deviate from class and enjoy learning with them as much as you can especially in the stage they are at, kindergarten. I hope I keep progressing within each day and become a good teacher in the end.
