CIUDAD GUAYANA This project proposes an urban model, and is the result of a personal motivation to resolve current problems in my childhood city Ciudad Guayana in Venezuela. Ciudad Guayana is a planified industrial town, created in the 60s to encourage the iron industry in the south of the country (between the Orinoco and Caroni rivers). This modern city did not follow, nor receive an update of, its original master plan. In the current climate of anarchy, in addition to the political, social and economic problems of the country (such as violence and food shortage), the city no longer manages to guarantee stability to its inhabitants. The first objective is to understand the town planning and the current functioning of the city. Taking this into account, the project will supply urban strategies on the scale of the city to make Ciudad Guayana attractive again. The idea is to work from a global perspective, analyzing existing projects created in similar contexts. New land use and spatial organisations will then be implemented gradually, which will revive the city little by little, until it is livable again.

RESOURCES
The idea is to create an integrated urban model in a significant part of the city. The model would unifiy the patchwork of different neighborhoods, associating the planned city with the informal city, which is made up of favellas. To this end, we propose a way to develop the neighborhoods of the informal town, giving new value to existing structures, and exploiting natural resources like the river.
Due to the poor accessibility of the cadastral maps and the absence of GPS images, it was necessary to assemble a variety of information to stay loyal to the reality of the context.

Currently, the answer to the problem of favellas in Ciudad Guayana, as elsewhere in Latin America, is to recreate a ghetto with more technical resources. This reinforces the patchwork pattern of the city. In contrast, what this project proposes is to requalify the existing favella, defining parcels and creating thoroughfares to connect the formal and the informal city. The goal is to create a new socioeconomic dynamic, leading to a multifunctional neighborhood with extensive social mixing. To attain this, we propose several building typologies, shared gardens and a community center constructed out of recovered materials. The intention is to provide the spatial means, techniques, and resources to facilitate self-improval in the inhabitants’ quality of life.

RESTORATION OF AN ANCIENT ABBEY This project consists of the restoration of an ancient abbey in the French village of Aniane, which is currently abandonned. The goal is to stimulate the economic and social activity in the village, via the valuation of this symbolic building. We will therefore develop an extensive program, including a hotel, restaurants, a museum, an art school, a library, a tourist office, and public spaces. This plan will enable the development of a new cultural dynamic and stimulate the arrival of new inhabitants. The architectural answer to this need is the conservation of the parts of the building that are of historical interest, with the creation of contemporary extensions to allow the necessary entry of light. The past and the present are thus in harmony in the same space. In addition, we propose a public promenade allowing visitors to stroll along the extent of the abbey.

limerick city a new city hall
This project was developed during the Erasmus year I spent in Limerick, Ireland, in 2014-2015. Over the course of the first semester, we studied the local context, history, environment, and construction materials. To get a sensitive understanding of the façade, the ground and the space, we made hand drawings, models in timber, plaster, cement and cardboard. There was significant photographical work done to understand the context and the details of the site through images. The second part of the year was dedicated to the development of an architectural project for the new Limerick city hall. The plan composes the public spaces, the tourist office, offices, conference rooms, and auditoria. The idea was to make use of the first semester’s studies to develop the project coherently.
Understanding the cit y spatial and facade studies through plaster, cement, cardboard and timber models The photographs aim to simulate spaces and highlight the contact of light with materials. The constructed models interpreted the analyses of the existing projects and of the spaces we found in the city.

collective accomodation This project is situated in Montpellier, France, in a residential zone close to the city center. The program consisted of the creation of three apartment typologies (T2, T3, T4) and a public activity on the ground floor. The goal of the project is to reflect on homecoming and on the communal life in collective housing. To this end, we conceived an entirely ÂŤpublicÂť ground floor with a music school, a shared garden, and a communal room for the residents. We divide the parcel into four parts to distribute the typologies. We also create light wells to bring natural light and ventilation into the parking garage and certain apartments. On the last floor, around the last T3 and T4, we place a communal terrace. We aim to encourage the creation of shared spaces to facilitate the cohabitation and the quality of life of the residents.

THE BAMBOO internship with an artist I had the opportunity to spend one week working at the bamboo forest park of Anduze, France, as one of the interns of the Japanese artist Ueno Masao. During this internship, I learned the practice of working with bamboo, and the different techniques of the artist. We first helped him create a dome, after which he helped us create a second structure, for which we were granted artistic liberty. We made sketches to gather our ideas, and a 3D model to understand the structure and to explain the project to Masao. This was without a doubt a fantastic experience, which brought us closer to Oriental culture.
