The Public Policy Leadership Series educates leaders on how to develop sound public policy, better understand policies, functions and structure of government in Nevada, funding sources and tax mechanisms, and best practices in public policy development. It designed to appeal to individuals who hold (or want to hold) elected offi ce or hold leadership positions in the public, private and non-profi t sectors and want to engage in public policy to be more effective changemakers.

You will hear from elected offi cials, legislators, and leading policy experts, as well as engage in thoughtful conversations about issues impacting our state and local government. The purpose is to learn practical information you need to know to become a more effective civic leader.

Topics will include:

• Likely policy issues to be considered during the 2021 Nevada Legislature • Challenges that are the result of the impact of COVID-19 • Understanding the role of the elected offi cial in the policy process • Learning how to be an effective elected offi cial • Learning how to communicate with citizens and the media • Understanding the Nevada Budgeting process, as well as sources of revenue and funding mechanisms • Learning tools to evaluate policies, including resources for better policy decisions

PPL is a partnership between the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs and the Vegas Chamber’s Leadership Foundation of Greater Las Vegas, a 501(c)(3) non-profi t dedicated to developing educated and capable community leaders. The Greenspun College of Urban Affairs is dedicated to personal and academic development, the advancement of a wide range of disciplines, and the improvement of public policy and professional practices.
