WELCOME Thank you for reading this issue.
I’d like to welcome you to our first issue of Las Vegas Women of Power Magazine. For many years I have pondered how can I give back to women in my community who constantly work hard and make a difference. This magazine is created to do exactly that. Shine the light on amazing woman and encourage us to keep going. The purpose of the Las Vegas Women of Power Awards is to recognize an individual woman who has distinguished herself in her business, her profession, and/or her community. The recipient of the Las Vegas Women of Power Awards highlights the greatness that we are as women and as leaders.

I have been in practice for almost 25 years in Family and Internal Medicine. Owner of BurgerIM, The Phyfer Group Interior Design and The Beauty Bus Salon 2U with my husband Keith Phyfer and I will be launching a active wear line soon “Family Figure Fitness”. As a child I knew I wanted to go into the medical field and become a physician. Becoming a single parent at the age of 18 did not stop me from reaching my goal. I attended Community College of Southern Nevada where I began my undergraduate degree before I transferred to the University of Nevada Reno to complete my Bachelors in Pre Medicine. While I was at CCSN I received an award for one of the top 10 students in the US and still today I do not know who nominated me. While completing my degree at UNR I applied to medical school. My first interview was at University Nevada Reno Medical School which deterred me from applying to others schools. They believe that I l would not do well because I was a single parent and pregnant with my second child and wanted to know how I would be able to raise them and attend school. There was a medical school who called me to interview which I didn’t apply to and I never went because of what happened with UNR. Therefore I applied to PA school and I attended University Nebraska Medical Center Physician Assistant Program and at that time my son was five and my daughter was a newborn. During my first class I stood up and told them where I was from and how old my children were and I will never forget the look on their faces. Some of my classmates assumed that I was not going to stay in the program. I was in the first class that obtained a masters in physician assistant studies.

I passed my boards the first time whereas some of my classmates could not believe that I passed my boards being a single parent with two children let alone a black female. Some my classmate didn’t pass their boards and they didn’t have children. My typical day were dropping off my daughter at daycare and my son school, attended classes during the day with medical students (taking the same courses), after I picked up my children, my priority was being a mother first and a student second. I did not want to take anything away from their childhood. I studied at night while they were sleeping. This went on for 2 1/2 years before I graduated with a Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies and board certified!!

THE POWERFUL WOMAN MAGIC BEHIND ZOWIE BOWIE AND THE ZB SHOW GIRLS
JENNIFER PHILLIPS Interviewed By OraLeesa P. Gardner Photographs by Patrick Rivera
IN THE SPOTLIGHT SPRING - SUMMER 2022
Jennifer Phillips is the proud mother of two, Logan (21) and Ava (4) and has been with her husband, Chris Phillips now for nearly 7 years. She moved to Las Vegas in 2004. She was born in Stratford, Connecticut, raised in New York, and lived in Sarasota, Florida for over ten years. I’m proud to be part of the original staff hired to open the Wynn/Encore Resort and Casino and have remained there continuously throughout their 17 years as a day time cocktail server/event model now working on the Encore side. She met her husband Chris after he had asked her out without ever meeting her. Apparently, he had been watching her on social media and thought we would hit it off. He contacted her out of the blue asking if she would join him at an event he had to attend. He introduced himself as Chris Phillips, but she noticed that he was also more commonly known as the popular local entertainer Zowie Bowie. She had heard of him before and certainly had seen his various marketing billboards around town, but never had met or seen him perform. With a bit of reluctance, she called her mother and said… “Omg that hot Orange guy from the billboards just asked me out…. What should she do?” Without hesitation her mother replied. “What do you have to lose, go for it!” Needless to say, the rest is history and she has created an amazing life for them together, including giving birth to their lovely daughter Ava Rose four years ago. THE MAGIC BEHIND ZOWIE BOWIE AND THE ZB SHOW GIRLS (CONTINUED)
JENNIFER PHILLIPS Interviewed By OraLeesa P. Gardner Photographs by Patrick Rivera During this time, she would hear her husband speak with passion about wanting to keep traditional “Vegas Style” entertainment alive in this great city. Even though he is more commonly known for his high energy Top 40 dance music nightclub concerts, his true love is the Vintage production shows that graced the marquess and showrooms in the 60’s through the 80’s that inspired him to want to come to Las Vegas and continue that Classic Vegas tradition. The other show he produces that most reflects this passion is his Vintage Vegas big band that he also performs in since coming here from AZ in 2006 when he was invited to open the beautiful Red Rock Resort and Casino. He has always felt that there was something very important missing from his Big Band production that was an important key element to his dream to create the true Vegas Style experience and that was SHOWGIRLS!!! That’s where she came in. Without any experience whatsoever in the world of costume design or entertainment, she took it upon herself to make a rather significant contribution to bring a whole new exciting aspect to his performances. This was the beginning of what has now become the ZB Showgirls!! ZB Girls was an idea from her wanting to attempt something this grand and time consuming came one night after a show in which he had hired two showgirls for the first time from an agency to assist in one of his performances. It occurred to her watching them that she wanted to develop and make our own showgirl team along with hand made, custom, one of a kind luxurious costumes she could make in her spare time. Not truly understanding the time, energy, cost and patience this would take, she began with one head piece adorned with an array of thousands of dazzling stones and fabulous large white feathers. She simply learned as went meticulously applying each and every bead and stone with a pair of tweezers over weeks at a time until she had a full costume including the head piece, bodysuit, gloves and fans covered with 1000s of gorgeous rhinestones in various sizes and shapes. SPRING - SUMMER 2022 ISSUE | 10
Jennifer Phillips remembers trying luxyry show outfits on after completion for her husband who just sat in awe saying… “You’ve just created the future of our show Babe!'' Since then, she has designed and created over 20 full costumes in various colors and styles along with a team of 6 professionally trained dancers with full choreographed routines set to his music. In addition to performing in the Zowie Bowie Vegas style big band show, we have also opened up the business of “ZB Showgirls” that are now being hired for various modeling opportunities, conventions, weddings, and special appearances outside of her husband's show.
What makes these ZB showgirls so luxurious is a combination of two factors. One is the enormous amount of high quality stones and materials used to make these eye catching costumes so sexy and glamours.I now have exceeded well over a half a million stones. Each one being hand applied one by one with a pair of tweezers. Along with developing classic designs that reflect the true glamour and pizzaz of what Las Vegas has always been known for. Secondly, the extensive amount of time and devotion I put into each and every piece dedicating thousands of hours. The third factor is the fact that we are lucky to have on board with us some of the most beautiful, talented, professionally trained dancer/showgirls in town as part of our ZB Showgirl team.

What on earth made you start a Crystal Company? I started GemsAndMagicUS because of my passion, collecting crystals. When I first found my path I was in a dark and unmotivated headspace. I came across a book about crystal healing and from there I fell in love. Starting my crystal collection showed me love and light at the end of the tunnel, protective energies, and an amazing supportive community of like-minded people. I wanted to share this energy and these beliefs with people around the world so I decided to open up my own affordable crystal shop. My favorite thing about owning my crystal shop is not the money, but when my customers come to me and tell me how much my crystals and I have helped them learn and grow.
Can you educate us a little on Crystals? True crystals are mined from all over the world and are a completely natural material from the earth. Crystals are believed to have different amazing vibrational energies, and have helped people like myself stay protected in our practice, stay motivated, healing, depression, anxiety, and much more.

Once upon a time in late 2019, I was thinking after many years of working in corporate positions, that I needed to make some changes in my life. I needed to find a way to challenge myself again and create a little worklife balance. I had been in the Casino Gaming industry for more than 25 years, which had allowed me to attain all my professional and financial goals. However, over the past few years I had learned that my own time was the most sought-after goal, that I could achieve. Fast-Forward to 2020 when everyone’s world was turned upside down, I suddenly had all the time in the world. So, I started dabbling with online marketplaces reselling various clothing items. However, I quickly learned that I could have flexibility and work-life balance by owning my own online boutique.

As a lover of casual clothing, I always longed to be able put on a pair of comfortable jeans, a darling top and ridiculously cute shoes and make my way to the office, instead of my usual business suit. My new love of e-commerce and my love for comfort inspired me to create Ccb&Co, where women who prefer a casual curated style can shop at their leisure without any fuss or muss. With truly little money and a prayer, I evolved my new passion project into a business and established our website in October 2021. I found myself in a whole new world of fashion, social media, and sales. Each day I learn something new, that I did not know the day before, and I love it!

POWERFUL WOMAN OF CITIZEN SAFETY JULIE KRAIG
JULIE’S FIRST TASK UPON HER APPOINTMENT IN JUNE OF 2020 WAS TO IMMEDIATELY GET TO WORK ON DIVERSIFYING THE BOARD MEMBERS. SHE RELIED UPON HER VAST COMMUNITY NETWORK TO CULTIVATE LEADS FOR POTENTIAL APPLICANTS. HER GOAL WAS COMPLETED WITHIN HER FIRST YEAR IN THE POSITION, AS THE MEMBERS NOW MORE ACCURATELY REFLECT THE LAS VEGAS POPULATION.

Destined to make the tough calls and big moves, Julie’s decades-long career in legal management along with her degree in political science have combined later in her life to aid her in tackling her toughest challenge to date—acting as Executive Director over the Citizen Review Board (“CRB”) for Las

As a volunteer for LVMPD’s Use of Force Review Board in the early 2000s, Julie quickly acquired the awareness to remain impartial and not to simply “Monday-morning quarterback” cases. She utilizes this vital attribute to aid in ensuring her board members make no assumptions until all evidence has been reviewed.

MUSIC LIFE BY DJ KELLY J INTERVIEWED BY ORALEESA P. GARDNER 5 APRIL 2022
Name some of the hottest DJ's that inspire you.... I always list DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Dimepiece and DJ Franzen as key DJs that shaped how I wanted my DJ brand to be. DJs Thump and So Hype were actual mentors of mine over time though. The business side of DJing is really important when it becomes a career, so my inspirations shifted over time to include entrepreneurs and moguls as well as DJs.
How many woman or in this field of entertainment? The number of women in the entertainment industry is growing every second lol. There weren't a lot before. Why do you feel that this is the case? Entertainment was a man-led industry for centuries, like most industries. The shift globally is in the growth in the desire, leadership, and hard work of women that want to be in it. Like most industries, some men make it harder for women to get through, but we're getting through. You are a very active woman
