Siti Iliassum Quiamuscim Lacest

As one of the most encapsulating elements on the site, I extracted the essence of existing fire pits on Ocean’s Beach, and developed a micro-organization strategy. With a hard border on the outside deemed “the rigid”, a softer inner layer that dictates how occupants utilize the space as the “fluid” and the hearth of the area which breathes life into the space. This strategy is translated into the site where hard boundaries like retaining walls is akin to the “rigid”, planting and paths being the “fluid” and the major programming activates the space as the “hearth”.

1. Identify all current hearths on site, no matter the size.

2. Divide the site according to existing contours in order to better organize new hearths.

3. Strategically nest hearths into parcels, taking into account the strengths of each area.

4. Inspired by the smoke of fire pits, a silk-like path acts as the central connector, stitching the hearths together.

Rest Pavilions & Restaurants

Along the main canal lies periodic rest pavilions and restaurant where visitors can rest and recharge.

Public realm and dwelling

Along the canals are infrastructure such as public squares, biking paths, pavilions, and bridges aimed at connecting the community.

The main structure of Central park that celebrates the area’s rich history in agriculture.

With the extension of the canal system allowed for two newly rejuvenated ponds and its surrounding flora.

Agricultural museum and lake

The City of Burlingame sits just south of San Francisco International Airport and hosts a variety of top class hotels that serve the airport. Every year, transient occupancy taxes collected from the hotels generate around 30% of Burlingame’s entire tax revenue. Since most of the hotels are situated along the shoreline, it will become a huge concern for the city as the sea level begin to rise and the hotels begin to shut down. In fact, most of the Ingold-Milldale area as well as a large portion of Freeway 101 that runs through Burlingame will be completely inundated, displacing over 5000 people, forcing over 4000 jobs away from the city, and account for an annual net loss of around $29 million dollars.
