Celebrate the Holidays in Whatcom County
Celebrate Christmas in Lynden on Dec. 4 with the Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt and the Northwest Lighted Christmas Parade on Front Street. Join Downtown Lynden’s Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. for fun and prizes. The elves are back and running wild, visiting businesses all over Lynden. Can you find all of the elves? Join in on the fun at the Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt and win one of three prizes valued at more than $300 each. First 500 participants get free antlers. Then at 6 p.m., welcome in the holiday season with the annual Northwest Lighted Christmas Parade, presented by community sponsor Edaleen Dairy. Spend time with friends, family and other loved ones as a menagerie of cars, pickups, trucks, floats, wagons, and farm equipment light up Front Street. The parade starts at the Fairway Shopping Center, at Front and 18th streets. The parade then heads east on Front Street into downtown Lynden where it ends at 3rd Street. page

You will find the hint for the location of this quest on the Port’s social media pages the morning of Dec. 4. • This year’s Gingerbread house display will be held online. Each of the competition entries will be shared through the Port website, portofbellingham.com, as well as the Port’s social media pages. The People’s Choice award voting will be done through an online poll. • Dec. 4 is the Lighted Boat Parade Viewing, with plenty of food trucks and holiday music outside of the Bellingham Cruise Terminal during the Bellingham Yacht Club’s Lighted Boat Parade. Place popcorn in a deep baking dish and preheat oven to 275°F. In a stove-top pan, melt butter, add sugar and syrup. Stir until mixture comes to a boil. Continue boiling without stirring until candy thermometer reaches 250°F (soft ball). Remove from heat and stir in baking soda. Drizzle over popcorn and stir to distribute, sprinkle with salt. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Pour caramel corn onto parchment paper and break apart as it cools. Store cooled in air tight container.
