From the Director, Cathi LeCocq June is a month we often think of weddings. My husband and I will be celebrating 40 years this month. Here at the center we do a very special celebration for all the couples who have been married 50 years or more. So if you, or someone you know, has reached that milestone, let us know so we can send an invitation. Another anniversary we will all want to celebrate together is coming up in August this year. Our Lynden Community/Senior Center will be celebrating 50 years since it came into being through the efforts of a small group of people working together. Look for more info to come about plans for a celebration!

Entertainment Fund & program suggestions – Do you love a good show? We are always looking for new ideas for performers or presentations you would like to have. Offering a good variety of musical talent means we need to provide compensation to a number of the performers. We sometimes pass the hat, but try not to do that too much, so payments mostly come out of the center funds. If you are a lover of the arts and would like to give to an Entertainment Fund, there is a donation can at the Front Office where you can contribute your spare change (or bucks) to help expand our entertainment budget! Looking for an easy way to support the Community Center while you shop? Here’s two options: Fred Meyer Community Rewards - Go to FredMeyer.com/CommunityRewards to link your rewards card to our nonprofit—Lynden Community/Senior Center. Your rewards will remain the same, but in addition, the center will receive a percentage for all your purchases. Amazon Smile - If you shop online with Amazon, go to Amazon Smile and log in before you order. The first time you do, choose us as the charity you want to support. Everything about your purchase is the same, but the Center will receive a donation of .5% of the purchase price. See Cathi if you need help or more info.
Center Gifts -
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the folks who have kept the candy dish at the front desk full of a great variety of treats! Also those wonderful bakers who have brought in homemade goodies for the Coffee Bar. We love the store bought variety too, and appreciate all of you for your generosity! Thanks again to Doug Jay of Premier Packing, for donating frozen cod to the meal program. We really enjoyed having some excellent, freshly packed fish for lunch! Also, Thank You again, to Colony House Furniture for donating the beautiful chair and end table for our raffle that ended last month!

Our Line Dancers ‘rockin out’ to Bill DeGroot aka Roy Orbison! Bill has upped his personification of the famous ‘Pretty Woman’ performer by adding a wig along with the signature dark glasses. Wow, did he give a great show here last month! Can’t wait to have him back.
Speaking of being back, it is great to have our dynamic duo working side by side in the kitchen again! Welcome back Shereen, we have all missed you. A big thank you to Keith and all the volunteers who kept things working smoothly in spite of being shorthanded for several months.

Member/Volunteer of the Month Bob & Carol Inge Bob and Carole have been a staple in the kitchen for a very long time. If it’s Tuesday it must be Carole on the dishwasher or Thursdays it must be Bob, unless they’re filling in for each other since they’re always dependable to have it covered. (Unless of course when it’s state basketball tournament time!) Pancake Breakfasts are another area where they are always willing to help, either one or both of them. Not only is Bob a master dishwasher, but he is also fantastic at mentoring the high school volunteers and showing them the ropes. Carole, as well, has a hidden talent of being an awesome French toast maker also!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Please see Cathi if interested. RASPBERRY PANCAKE BREAKFAST VOLUNTEERS!!! Saturday, July 20, 7 – 11 a.m. This huge breakfast during the Raspberry festival is one of our biggest fundraisers and takes about 50 volunteers to work the two busy shifts serving over 600 people. See Cathi to sign up to be on the crew! Additional Kitchen Prep and Dish Washing volunteers are still needed. Coffee Bar and Meal Delivery are also needed. Occasional substitutes are needed as well. Flyer Distributors still needed! Before any fund raiser or special event, we need people who will post flyers to get the word out. Choose a part of town to do or just pick up a few to post at your church or other location. Needed before each monthly Saturday Breakfast and other events. 10
