From the Director, Cathi LeCocq Just for fun, we are going to play a little game this month. Read your newsletter very carefully to see how many U.S. flags you can find in it (and know about all the good food, fun and friendly activities happening at the center this month)! When you think you’ve found them all, write your guess and your name and phone number on an entry form and put it in for a drawing at the end of the month. If your guess is correct and your name is drawn you will win a ticket for a free lunch at the center! Also, if you have a good clean joke you heard or maybe a poem you wrote or other item of interest for the newsletter, send it in! We will include it on a space-available basis when possible.

Center News & Events For entertainment this month we have some new performers. On Friday, July 5, Marji Lykke, our Wednesday front desk volunteer, will lead a Christian music singa-long with recorded musical accompaniment. Tovah Rainsong will be here July 12 singing ‘oldies’ accompanied with guitar. Then for you baby boomers we have Ron Tidmarsh on July 19, playing guitar and singing favorites from the 50s, 60s & 70s. To finish out the month 7/26 is Levi Santorini on saxophone. We have a couple special mid-week presentations this month. On Tuesday, July 23, Sue Sorenson, of Take My Hand At-Home Care, will give an informational talk about in-home care. (Sue, a center member, is also the generous sponsor for our Birthday Ice Cream Socials!) The next day, on Wednesday, July 24, Shannon Lenz from Bellair Tours, will be here to do a slide presentation about all of their day trips and multi-day travel excursions happening through the end of this year. (Remember, Bellair gives senior center members a discount on their trips!) Thursday afternoon is Game Time at the center! Wii bowling will be available on the big screen TV. Gutterball and other games will be going on in the dining room.
RAZZ FEST is coming the 3rd week of July, and that means we are gearing up for our annual
Raspberry Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, July 20, 7 - 11 a.m. $6.00.
This is one of our biggest fundraisers, takes a LOT of volunteers! There are many ways to help out – put up flyers all around town and the rest of the county, bundle silverware ahead of time, set tables the day before, clear and reset place settings in the dining room or work in the kitchen during the breakfast. And then there’s that most important job – helping clean up afterwards! Sign up at the front desk.

Center Gifts -
In June we had a wonderful celebration for all area couples who have been married 50 years or more. It was held at Gatherings by Grandiflora’s new event venue which was absolutely beautiful, especially after Melissa from the Rustic Cottage decorated, Molly Jo McGhee donated roses for centerpieces, Steve Samms did the sound system and the committee chaired by the marvelous Mary Buell, assisted by Cathy Humphrey, Mary Gene Esselbach, Pam Goto, Bette Strandgard, Emma Verkist and Nancy Stolcis worked their magic! The music of ‘Rosewood’ (Kathleen Dean and Sophia Van Zonneveld) was enchanting, the finger food from the Green Barn was delicious and the wedding cake by Kathy Wheeler was to die for! Ike & Joey Workentin (married 72 yrs!) cut the cake, Joe Branion and Ron Medina were servers extraordinaire and it was all made possible by the ‘almost free’ rental of Grandiflora and the sponsorships of Lynden Manor and Meadow Greens (thanks for the door prize from Lynden Manor also).

Member/Volunteer of the Month Joe Branion When the center needs something, who do you call? Better call Joe! Joe has a way of being in the right place at the right time and knowing how to sweet talk his way into getting needed items donated to the center. All the chairs and tables donated by Worldmark came though Joe’s negotiations. He also got the Gutterball table by donation as well as the chair and end table from Colony House we raffled off recently. Joe is on the Board and the Fundraiser Committee, helping with the spring tea, chili feed, pancake breakfasts, raffles and many other things to support the center. And in his spare time, Joe works on painting the walls while fixing and renovating!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Please see Cathi if interested. RASPBERRY PANCAKE BREAKFAST VOLUNTEERS!!! Saturday, July 20, 7 – 11 a.m. This huge breakfast during the Raspberry festival is one of our biggest fundraisers and takes about 50 volunteers to work the two busy shifts serving over 600 people. See Cathi to sign up to be on the crew! Flyer Distributors still needed! Before any fund raiser or special event, we need people who will post flyers to get the word out. Choose a part of town to do or just pick up a few to post at your church or other location. Needed before each monthly Saturday breakfast and other events.
