THE CHALICE (Frisian)
TSJELK is a band from the micronation De Kelk, situated next to the Rijksstraatweg in Frysl창n. It plays with the identity of its micronation: can a nation consist of only music, or can music only consist of a nation? Either way, this band could not have existed without its common ground. TSJELK makes music with protestant church organs mixing them with traffic sounds. Since the underground city is located next to the main road, traffic sounds are omnipresent in daily life as an inhabitant of De Kelk. The church organs are a metaphor for serenety, harmony and purity. The interference of the highway traffic clashes: it is mechanical, assembled, dirty. Inside reacts to the outside, the subdued versus the amplified.
