Waiuku AFC Men’s premier teams victory over Pukekohe AFC firsts was enough to seal the AFF Championship and earn a promotion for Waiuku on Saturday 18 August, with a game still in hand. The two local teams took to Bledisloe Park in Pukekohe, with Waiuku taking home a well fought win 2-1. Rob Thornton from Waiuku AFC said they were ecstatic about the win. “Pukekohe put up one hell of a fight,” he said. “It was a game with plenty of local pride. It was a serious game.” He said they had a number of new players who joined the team this year, and Saturday’s game boasted five U19 players. “They slotted in well. We gelled as a unit. Team spirit is what got us through this year.” Simon Andruchow, assistant coach, said the team are absolutely over the moon after being crowned champions. “As a squad we set targets at the beginning of the year, and one was to earn promotion. To be champions shows how much work was put in by every individual involved, from players through to our physio and everyone behind the scenes at the club. The belief and support from everyone has been immense.” The team celebrated back at the Pukekohe clubrooms before moving back to Waiuku to thank the locals for their support. “Celebrations went well into the night,” Rob said. “We represented the badge well.” “For such a small club to do what we have done, especially after having to start from scratch a couple of years ago, it is a great achievement and we look forward to the challenge next year,” Simon said. Derek Sinclair was Waiuku’s player of the day. Derek and Caine Robbie were goal scorers. More photographs of the game: www.facebook.com/districtpost

ll I jinxed the weather last week, so I’ll stay away from that topic from now on. That’ll teach me for making small talk haha. This past weekend was a super busy one. I went and watched some sports finals and grabbed some photos. Pukekohe High School’s First XV took on Manurewa High School first XV in the CMRFU Secondary School Finals final. It was an unlucky result for the Pukekohe team, but they played with guts and pride and gave their all. It was great to see all the supporters out there, parents, friends, family members. For a lot of them, it was their last game playing for their school. Pukekohe AFC and Waiuku AFC first teams also went head to head on Saturday afternoon, and boy was it a game! You have to love a good competition, and while there were several moments of touch-and-go, and some colourful words exchanged, it was Waiuku who left with the win and the promotion for next season. It was interesting to see the different experiences on the sideline between rugby and football games. As of most sports games, the crowd gets right into it and words fly before you have time to think. I was impressed with the rugby crowds, but for the football, I think my ears bled a little with some of the words that were thrown around on the field and off it. It was a great game though, and well done Waiuku for your win. Don’t forget there is an NZTA meeting at the Pukekohe War Memorial Hall tonight (Tuesday) at 6.30pm about the Southern Motorway upgrades. If you want to hear the updates or ask some questions, make sure you come along.

Illegal rubbish dumping Since moving to Waiuku from the Awhitu District, I have taken to bike riding around the many roads surrounding the town and have been shocked at the amount of rubbish thrown from vehicles. Every time I ride I notice new refuse added to the already existing litter in the road water courses. This litter will of course in time (especially after heavy rain) reach the Manukau Harbour or the Waikato River. It is particularly bad between Millbrook Drive and the junction of Kaihau and Tahuna Pa Roads. This route I regularly take and is most noticeable from a bike. It is so bad, if you walked in the gutters you would not be able to put your foot down without stepping on the various plastics and drink containers. As a driver for 55 years along the Awhitu Road I have never noticed it before, mainly because I keep my eyes on the road and oncoming traffic. If I am a passenger I now keep a eye for roadside rubbish and the further along the Awhitu Road it lessens considerable. It should be noted that some land owners obviously make an effort to pick the refuse up and keep their road frontage tidy. With the news media often highlighting the amount of plastics accumulating in the oceans, I feel that this is a subject (roadside refuse) you should make an issue of in The Post, for there is no excuse for throwing rubbish out of vehicles. It is an uncaring , thoughtless lazy action. Of course illegal dumping is a country wide problem and if you were to travel around many of the towns you would find the same issue. This issue is not so obvious in towns as the streets are regularly cleaned or the food and drink in containers are consumed at home. Another issue is the amount of recycled refuse that is blown or sucked from Auckland Council Collection trucks as they travel at speed in the rural areas. I have personally witnessed this and have complained to the Council. Letter abridged. Name supplied

Your insight into the major news that took place NEWS Off-duty officer awarded
By Yana O’Gorman yana@thepost.nz
An Auckland police officer who lives in Pukekohe was off-duty at the time of a shoplifting incident which resulted in him gaining a District Commander’s Certificate of Commendation. The Counties Manukau Awards ceremony was held earlier this month in Papatoetoe. “It was a real honour to be there with other police officers and members of the public,” Constable Cyrus said. “What struck me was the humility of everyone involved. They’re so humble. It was very moving.” Constable Cyrus was shopping at Countdown north in Pukekohe, in September last year, when he heard a commotion. “I’d seen the guy before. I saw him jump over the checkouts and realised he was taking off with some goods,” Cyrus said. “I guess it was just part of the job, but my natural instinct was to chase him. When he got outside, he stopped.” Then the altercation took place. “He kicked and grabbed me.” A headbutt from the shoplifter resulted in a broken nose for Cyrus. “I came out worse than he did,” he said. However, members of the public who were witnessing the incident came to Cyrus’s aid. “We struggled to keep him down. He was very strong, just a young guy, but there were three of us trying to hold him.” The young man was held down until the Po-

On Thursday 16 August, Donna Boden presented Ellice Ball from the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation with flowers and a cheque. The $2800 cheque was from sales of the mosaic torsos that were auctioned in recent months. The mosaic torsos were created by Sandra Holmes who kick started the project. The idea is to sell the torsos, with proceeds going to NZBCF. Seventeen were created by local and international artists, and five have since been sold. Nationally, nearly $500,000 has been raised for the BCF this year thanks to community fundraisers said Ellice Ball. “We don’t receive any government funding, we run purely from donations. The funds go to research,” she said. Donna is proud to be supporting the project. “People love the stories behind the mosaics,” she said. “Every torso has so much meaning behind it. It’s great that people can see a result, from what’s been done already,” Donna said.

Purls of wisdom for upcoming suffrage parade Knitters throughout Franklin have teamed up to create bollard cosys as part of the Suffrage 125 celebrations. By Yana O’Gorman - yana@thepost.nz
The cosys will be placed on bollards in Pukekohe marking out the path the parade will travel through on Saturday 15 September. The date of the parade commemorates 125 years of suffrage in New Zealand. So far, around 90 cosys have been knitted, but organisers are hoping for 256, and they are looking for more keen knitters who can put the needles together for a good cause. “It doesn’t matter if we don’t get all of them, whatever comes, we’re grateful,” said Virginia Warren, who is chairing the Suffrage committee. “People have been sharing the info with friends and family members. The retirement villages are involved,” she said. The colours of suffrage are purple, white and green and stores at one point were running out of purple yarn, due to the number of cosys being created. There is a pattern for the cosys online, as well as one for a white camellia, which can be placed on top of the cosys. Camellias were given to supporters of the suffrage movement. “We’re also looking for anyone who would also be able to place the cosys on the bollards a week before the parade,” Virginia said, adding that they’re looking for more cultures to join the international parade. “We want to represent our multicultural community and create harmony in our district.” She has seen plenty of people get involved, even had offers from primary school students who are keen to help.

Ultimate St John Award for Norah from Tuakau
By Jess Paton jess@thepost.nz
Norah Kate Gray, an 18 year old from Tuakau, was recently awarded her Grand Prior Award at the Government House in Wellington.
The Governor General of New Zealand, Her Excellency Dame Patsy Reddy (left), who presented Norah Kate Gray with her Grand Prior Award at the Government House in Wellington on August 4 2018. PHOTO: SUPPLIED
ll This award is the highest a youth member can achieve within St John, and was presented to Norah by the Governor General of New Zealand, Her Excellency Dame Patsy Reddy, accompanied by the Chancellor of St John, Steve Evans. It acknowledges capable and self driven youth members of St John and their commitment, compassion and support, to the order of St John and the wider community as well. To get this award, Norah followed a curriculum programme in which she had to achieve 12 badges, six which were compulsory and six which were optional. All together there are 27 badges possible to achieve. To get your Grand Prior, you also have to complete a minimum of 100 hours community service. “Achieving this award is something I'm so proud of and honoured to have been able to achieve! Although it's taken lots of work and dedication to achieve, it's been
so worth it,” she said. Norah, who is currently working full time as a local gardener for APAC Horticultural Solutions Limited, said she likes St John because it's like family. "It's somewhere you can belong. The youth programme is so much fun and you learn so many things such as first aid, health care, leadership and general life skills." Norah said throughout her time at St John Youth in Onewhero, she's been blessed to have some incredible leaders and mentors encouraging her and helping her achieve her Grand Prior. "I would like to thank past and present leaders Karen Lancaster, Christine and Steven Manga, Kathy Livingston, Anna Lindstrom and Alan Rowe, for their dedication and hours of time volunteered. Their encouragement and input into my St John journey and every day life will forever be appreciated." "There are two programmes offered by St John youth; the Penguin programme for
those aged between six to eight years and the Cadet programme for those from eight to 18 years. Both focus on first aid and skills to set you up for life." Briar Gray, Norah's mother, said, "Norah has been doing St John Youth since she was 11. I admire her for sticking to it and her commitment. I'm proud of her! I also value the input local leaders have, just ordinary people that volunteer their time and talents." "I encourage youth and parents to find their local St John Youth Division and sign up today," said Norah. "It's an incredible organisation. You'll make lifelong friends and develop skills that will set you up for life, all while having heaps of fun!"

Dr Matt Avery from Vet Care in Waiuku confirmed that Custard’s cause of death was from a dog, but as of yet, no dog has been caught. “Someone knows. The dog would have returned home covered in blood, wreaking of lanolin,” Chris said. Custard the sheep had lived at the semirural property for two years, with fellow sheep Lambington. “I’d had stock there for a number of years, now I’ve had to move Lambington.” The sheep mauling is the latest in a number throughout the district, with stock owners calling for dog owners to keep tabs on their animals. Chris is concerned that it could happen again. “The dog could kill again. It could attack anybody. It could be a kid next,” she said. The owner said Custard was just like a pet. “She’d eat anything you bought her. She’d give kiss nibbles on my chin and face. She was a lovely girl. I’m just gutted. I’m absolutely devastated.” Custard was attacked at three different points in the field. “If you can’t look after your dog, don’t have one,” Chris said. She hopes that the owner

It is lesson for everybody, unfortunately at Custard’s expense,” Chris said.

Dubious Past Here is an interesting portion of Scripture that I recently read, and it is actually quite current in some ways, so I share it with you now. Ezra 4:1116 “This [is] the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, [even] unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time. Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls [thereof ], and joined the foundations. Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up [again, then] will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and [so] thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings. Now because we have maintenance from [the king’s] palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;
That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city [is] a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed. We certify the king that, if this city be builded [again], and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.” Let us set the scene; the Babylonian Captivity has only just past, and the King has let God’s people return home from Captivity and they have just started to re-build Jerusalem, enthusiastically the people set to work, and though being few in number, they roll up their sleeves and get stuck in, and then start to achieve. Then the “Locals” decide that they are not too happy with their intrusive return back into the local community, so the locals try to stop the progress the old way, with mocking and pressure to get them to do what they want done, and that is, “To Fail Miserably.” The result of all this insinuation and mocking slander campaign is a failure, so they appeal to “Higher Powers” and send this insinuating letter to the King in Babylon, it appears to be very polite, but there are plenty of well-placed slanderous insinuations. If you read on further, the reply coming back from Babylon to Jerusalem is very plain, and the king declares that we have diligently checked out your past history, your past sins and failings are a certifiable “Fact” so we are going to force you to stop building, and that is to be enforced right now, so down tools immediately. Their past has finally come back home to roost in their hair and then to bite them, and it bit them very hard.
Now, how about you and me? How often do our well-meaning friends, well-meaning associates, and sometimes those in authority over us, who often continually judge and ridicule us for the errors of our “Past?” Sometimes we even fail to remember our own past indiscretions, and fail to then make some new and better choices in our lives, so we keep on repeating our past foolish behaviour, and unfortunately get even deeper
into it, over and over again. When we finally awaken to our bad behaviour, and we then make a compete change, have deep repentance, and then start to forge ahead on a new and much better path, how long before along comes some well-meaning person, or a mocker or somebody trying to “Put us Down,” rolls on into our lives, or even into our community, and then the gossip and insinuations start to appear? Some say, “well it is just your past catching up on you,” but a dead and buried “old life” should remain just that, dead and buried and forgotten.
We all have a “Past” and none of us would ever want it be dragged back from the Past and propped up as a testimony against us in Public Display, for everyone to see, so let us respect others by not waving their past failings Publicly. Matthew 7:12 “Therefore all things, whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” Luke 6:31 “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.” The Golden Rule, “Treat others just the same way as you would want them to treat you!” “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!”
A “True Friend” will always, in kindness and compassion, respectfully point out to you any areas in your life that are “Not Nice” or that “Need Improvement,” so that you can “But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen.” {2 Peter 3:18} True Friends will always show kindness and compassion and real genuine empathy, but enemies love to “Throw up your past, right back in your face,” and then proceed to rub salt into your wounds.
It now has a new and modern term, and that is of “Bullying” or even “Cyber Bullying,” and there are many suicide deaths from various people who feel that right now, there is absolutely no way anymore, up or out from under this attack, or away from their vast, past mistakes, and there appears to be no clear path through and away from this continual avalanche of “Bad Press.” Dear Reader; Will you commit right now to “Forgive and to Forget?” To abide by the “Golden Rule,” God freely forgave me, so I will now freely forgive everyone as well, Jesus turned his other cheek and refrained from retaliation to grossly unjust treatment, so will you follow his example?

COMMUNIT Y Pukekohe growers were in Parliament on Tuesday 14 August to hear details of a significant report into protecting the region’s elite growing soils. Hunua MP Andrew Bayly welcomed the Deloittes review of the economic impacts of losing horticultural land to housing. The 66 page report commented on the unique soils of Pukekohe and the impact of future housing on growing land. “The impact is huge,” Andrew said. “While accounting for only one per cent of the land in Auckland, Pukekohe growers supply 25 per cent by value of all of the fresh vegetables in New Zealand. The report highlights the significance to the economy of the $256 million a year that comes out of the Pukekohe region and the conflict between new housing development and how we continue to protect this valuable industry as well as the elite soils themselves.” Pukekohe Vegetable Growers Association chair Pravin Hari, who was in Parliament for the report’s release, says he’s “thankful” for it. “It’s great to articulate

what’s happening and how important the soils are to us and how hard we try to look after them. I’m looking forward to working with the Government and local bodies to try to find a way forward to secure our future,” he said. The report states that the Pukekohe region has exceedingly fertile productive soils, a temperate climate, easy and direct access to transport routes and immediacy to Auckland, which makes it so attractive for growers. Horticulture New Zealand chief executive Mike Chapman said, “This Government has shown a willingness to collaborate with horticulture, and this report is part of the evidence-base we will bring to the table as we work on finding the answers to the questions it poses. Deloitte has made six recommendations in the report which we agree with and will continue working on.” These include considered planning on land use to balance housing and horticulture, access to resources through water systems and more funding in horticulture education. He said decision makers need a clear view of the value of the Pukekohe food hub. “If they don’t, we run the risk of an economic hit to Auckland of up to $1.1 billion in 25 years, with the loss of up to 4500 full time jobs, less fruit and vegetables available, and prices up to 58 per cent higher. During that time Auckland will also be hungrier, with population set to rise to 2.3 million.” What are your thoughts on the report and comments? Do we need to protect Pukekohe soil? Shaping the future of education
By Jess Paton jess@thepost.nz
Onewhero Area School’s Maia Kervin, aged 11, is taking action and letting New Zealand know what she wants her education to look like in the future. The poster she created portraying her ideas, has been shortlisted for the nationwide 'Young Minds, Young Dreams' NCEA Make Your Mark competition, open to all students aged 5 to 12 years old. Maia explained that the poster has to reflect on education and what it means to you and what you want to change. "I did this so I could have my say across New Zealand and show people what I think school should be like and how it should change." Maia found out about the competition through a school assembly, so she went and got a brochure afterwards and did it! "What I want to see is science, maths, free lunches for all students, learning languages at all ages, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for all, music everyday, tons of art, outdoor and indoor learning, loads of PE and more hands on work." "I didn't think I would get shortlisted, so when I found out I was really happy!" said Maia. "Most of the other kids did it in a group and I may have been the only one who did it by myself!" Maia, who created the poster at home, originally wanted to do a comic and then came up with the idea of the boxes. She's going to put her poster on her wall at Maia Kervin, from Onewhero School, with the poster she created that was short listed for the home. "I'm really excited to hear about the results and see what hap'Young Minds, Young Dreams' NCEA Make Your pens!" The first prize is $1000, second prize is $500 and third prize is Mark competition. $250. "If I won I would probably just put it in my bank account!" said Maia, one of nine short listed children. High tech wastewater plant on its way
Police Report By Sergeant Graeme Wood
Watercare’s new state-of-the art wastewater treatment plant at Waiuku is closer to becoming a reality, after the Environment Court has given the go-ahead for highly treated wastewater to be discharged into the Manukau Harbour, via the head of the Waiuku estuary. The Waiuku, Clarks Beach, and Kingseat communities are currently served by three aging, small wastewater treatment plants. Within the five to eight years, just one high tech plant, based in Waiuku will take over this role. The Environment Court decision means a new wastewater outfall pipe will be built close to Clarks Beach golf course, in an area of deep water within the estuary, with a strong current. The region is set to grow from 12,000 people to 30,000 people over the next 35 years and the wastewater upgrades will allow development to occur. Watercare wastewater planning manager, Andre Stuart says the project is good news for these rural and coastal communities. “Since amalgamation in 2010, Watercare has spent considerable effort in investing in water and wastewater infrastructure
in Franklin. The next phase of work will be the concept design of the plant and pipelines. We will then need to get consents for the construction. This will take two years minimum. Actual construction of the new plant and outfall will start at least a year after that.” The upgrades will ensure future wastewater is treated to a high standard and safeguard the environment, in particular the Manukau Harbour. Consent was granted in December last year but was appealed. The case was sent to the Environment Court, which recently confirmed the consent application. Conditions include the setting up of a community liaison group and comprehensive monitoring of discharged wastewater and any potential effects on the environment and shellfish. What are your thoughts on the upgrade? Email us: news@thepost.nz
Tuakau’s new ITM ‘tHEY’LL SEE YOU RIGHT’ On August the 14 I joined members of Tuakau and District’s Development Association on a tour of the new Tuakau ITM building. Jess Paton - jess@thepost.nz In May 2017 work started on the new shop and people would have noticed some huge works since then. The yard was cleared out, a new building erected and now the old shop being pulled down! Glenn Graham, also known as ‘Podge’, who is Managing Director of Tuakau ITM Tuakau said, “It’s just progress really! It was the next step to pull the old down and build new! In ten years or so we’ll probably be rebuilding this building!” They are currently pulling down the old store and that space will become yard area again. Those that visit the store at the moment may wonder why they don’t have a nice new front desk. However Glenn reassures that the timber from the old building will be recycled
and used to create the new front desk and also the board room desk. “We want to keep the old with us!” Glenn said “it’s really nice to be able to do this while Dad is still here to see it! Awesome to see the generations!” Glenn’s father, who managed the business until he retired, said “this is really cool to see!” Richard Gee and Waikato District Councillor Stephanie Henderson agreed that “Glenn and the Graham’s put their money where their mouth is. They really love the Tuakau community.” Glenn is the third generation of the Graham family to manage Tuakau ITM, which was founded in 1935. Upstairs in the new building there is a large shared office space that will be let out, with conference rooms and board rooms available. Contact Glenn on 09 236 8226 for more information about this. Tuakau ITM is located on 27 Liverpool Street, Tuakau.
Just a reminder about reporting things to police in a timely manner. If you come home or you’re at home and you find someone on your property that obviously shouldn’t be there you need to ring the Police immediately on 111. The same applies if you are out and about and see someone doing something that is obviously against the law ring immediately on 111. Delays in calling can mean the difference in these people being caught. Immediate reporting means we can also utilise other resources such as the Eagle helicopter or police dog units. However we are hearing of incidents where things are not reported for an hour or two which means the offenders can be long gone and there is little point calling in a helicopter or police dog. If in doubt whether you should call the police, call and let a trained police communicator make the decision based on your information. We are having some burglaries where the offenders are targeting sheds or garages. What we can all do is ensure they
are locked and secure. Some are making it easy by leaving them unlocked or even open. Others may say the burglars will just bust in if it’s locked. But burglars and thieves are lazy buggers who look for easy opportunities and if your place is looking a bit too hard for them they will move on somewhere else. So decrease your chances of being a burglary victim by locking all your doors to your house, shed and garages. A good result this week when someone reported their car broken into, their credit cards taken and used. Some quick enquiries, and a search warrant was executed at a local address. Good evidence was recovered in relation to the stolen cards, drugs, but more importantly we relieved them of a firearm they shouldn’t have had. A local male has appeared in Court on a number of charges including unlawful possession of a firearm. Remember if you want to pass on information to us call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, its anonymous, so tell us and let us look into it. Cheers , Woody

What to do if a loved one passes away abroad
How to support a loved one in mourning There’s no magic word or miracle formula to comfort someone in mourning. However, if someone close to you is stricken with grief from the loss of a loved one, lending them a sympathetic ear when they need to talk is the best way to be supportive in their time of need.
a great weight to be lifted off the shoulders of the bereaved.
In short, always be present for your friend, colleague, neighbour, etc., and never judge their pain or suffering. If necessary, encourage them to consult a health professional who could offer them First, instead of making clichéd comments like the necessary resources and support to overcome “time heals everything” or “he or she is in a bet- their heartache. ter place,” let them know that you’re available to listen, and respect their silence in the meantime. If, on the contrary, the grieving person wishes to talk, encourage them to reminisce about the good times they shared with the one they loved so dearly. On the other hand, the person grieving may need space to mourn in peace. If so, respect their decision by remaining patient and compassionate to their plight. Remind them that you’re always available to meet if they need to get their mind off things. In addition, don’t hesitate to offer more practical assistance. Simple gestures like preparing dinner, looking after the kids or tidying up the house allow
The best way to offer your support to a loved one in mourning is to be present in their time of need.
How to cope with a baby’s passing Losing one’s baby, whether during pregnancy (i.e. miscarriage) or in the first days, weeks or months following birth, is a devastating ordeal for parents. And as the death of a long-awaited child is often unexpected and sudden, the mourning that follows is particularly difficult to bear. Perinatal mourning Unfortunately, perinatal mourning is often trivialized and misunderstood. Sometimes, people in the parents’ entourage fail to grasp the magnitude of their pain. Thus, the loss of a newborn child is often a distressing time for parents, who must renounce their future plans and cope with the memory of
what could have been. In addition, the lack of recognition from peers can render the experience even more heart-wrenching. Getting the right help If a parent’s pain and suffering become unbearable to the point where depression takes over, then the grieving mother or father must seek help with a health professional (therapist, psychologist, family doctor, etc.) or accept help from trusted individuals who wish to offer support (parents, friends, coworkers, support group members, etc.).
The stages of grief The mourning process generally consists of several stages during which bereaved parents may experience emotional, psychological and physical pain. Incomprehension, frustration, guilt, helplessness and anxiety, for example, are common feelings associated with the loss of a loved one as dear as a newborn child. And since everybody deals with grief in their own way, the healing process may prove much longer and more challenging for certain people.

Learning about the death of a loved one is never easy, especially if they passed away while abroad. Managing formalities in a country where the language, laws and customs differ from your own can make the grieving process that much more harrowing for family and friends involved. If a loved one has sadly passed away while abroad, continue reading to find out the right course of action. First, it’s necessary to choose a representative who can make decisions on behalf of the deceased’s entire family. The designated individual must then procure all of the usual documents related to someone’s death: will, insurance agreements (travel, life, etc.), social insurance card, etc. Next, the person appointed must communicate with the deceased’s travel insurance company, if necessary, to inform them of the tragic incident. Then, a funeral home must be chosen (preferably one that has experience dealing with international affairs) in the country where the body is found. The representative must also obtain an official death certificate from local authorities (ideally several copies). Depending on the country and the circumstances surrounding the person’s death, the authorities may need to lead an investigation. If this is the case, the representative must wait until a verdict has been reached and the subsequent reports (medical, police, autopsy, etc.) have been filed before the body can be repatriated. If needed, the representative can always ask consular officials for help, especially if they’re unfamiliar with the foreign country’s language, laws and customs. Consular officials can communicate with the police, hospital or morgue in order to obtain information regarding the body’s location as well as details surrounding the deceased’s death. They can also help identify the body if local officials, family members or friends aren’t in a position to do so. Funeral arrangements The representative must quickly decide if the deceased’s body will be repatriated (either in a coffin or urn) or buried in the country where the tragedy occurred. It’s important to keep in mind that funeral practices and related costs (burial, cremation, etc.) vary greatly from one country to the next. In fact, certain regions in the world prohibit cremation while others impose strict time constraints for embalming or incinerating a corpse. Furthermore, specific documents and certificates are necessary in many cases. Depending on the circumstances and place of death, long delays, among numerous other factors, can interrupt the body’s repatriation. In addition, every airline has its own requirements and restrictions in relation to the transport of coffins or cremated remains. Finally, all the costs related to the funeral arrangements and repatriation of the deceased’s body or ashes are the family’s responsibility. In the case where the deceased had travel insurance, the insurer may cover the entire or partial cost of related expenses.

Sport Laura Langman, who was recently selected for the Silver Ferns, visited Waiuku again on Sunday 19 August to take a Netfit session. This is the third time Laura has visited Waiuku herself, and the second time for Netfit. After the session on Sunday Laura said “I was so impressed with the juniors! They’ve really come a long way!” Kim Voigt, Netfit organiser, said it was a privilege to welcome Laura Langman back to Waiuku. “Once again we were delighted with the turnout and Laura delivered a fun, fast Netfit session. We wish Laura everything of the best with her upcoming Silver Ferns campaign. Her Waiuku fans can’t wait to see her back on the court,” she said. Laura said she feels really lucky to have been selected for the Silver Ferns. “I know there’s a lot of work to be done but I’m looking forward to just getting into camp and getting this started. I feel just really lucky and really grateful for the opportunity to be on the team. Not many players get a second chance so I’m really wanting to make it the best opportunity I can.” Sarah Wall developed Netfit to help netballers stay netball fit. Laura said “The ball skills, cone tracks and band tracks, there’s elements of it that we do everyday. We try and bring in to Netfit what we would do when they’re in an ANZ team or Super Netball teams, to give girls and clubs a taste of what it is they do before games and in trainings. This fixture is always eagerly anticipated and hard fought, with Saturday being no exception. Waiuku knew a win would seal the AFF Championship title but it wasn’t going to be easy for them as our lads gave absolutely everything to make it a very competitive game, which it was from start to finish. Eventually, Waiuku ran out 2-1 winners and from Pukekohe AFC, we say congratulations to Waiuku Association Football Club on their promotion and title. In other games, Pukekohe Men’s 3rds picked up a pleasing win, whilst the Men’s 4th team were beaten against AFF Division 7 champions, Western Springs. Our Men’s 1st team player of the day, sponsored by Franklin Law, went to “retired” striker Michael Smith... who is still claiming his “goal” today! Results as follows: Men’s 1sts vs Waiuku - 2-1 loss. Goal scorer: Daniel Colville. Men’s Reserves: Postponed. Men’s 3rds vs Ellerslie, 2-1 win. Goal scorers: Roy Collin, Jeff Andrews. Men’s 4ths vs Western Springs, 6-0 loss.
16th Franklin United Youth Academy. Back row: Noah Parker, James Curac, Callum Mead, Francisco Gatica Garces. Middle row: Rochelle Gray (Manager), Maverick Hayes, Josiah Tapp, Joshua Cathcart, Eddie Harris, Kaenan Gray, Lloyd Petersen (Coach). Front row: Deen Petersen, Adrian Shackelton, Pavan Khun Khun, Cody de Lange, Marshall Robertson, Jakob England.

In our life time we all manage to
establish something whether it be a property, a business, a car or simply even savings we still have interests that we would like to see protected. Although many of us are unsure as to how we are to go about protecting not only our interests, but also the interests of the ones we love or any relevant parties if an unforeseen event or predicted event was to occur. The solution is easy the answer is making sure you have a will. It doesn’t matter whether you are the Director, Administrator or receptionist if you have a will then you can put whatever you would like into it in order to ensure that your interests are looked after if something was to happen to you. One of the most common reasons people don’t get a Will is that they are busy with day to day priorities rather than planning for the future. This month is Wills Month which is about encouraging New Zealanders to update their current will or if you do not have one then this is a perfect opportunity to get it done.

f
Your Will sets out your wishes for how your affairs are to be managed after you are gone. score A Will provides for the executor’s who are nominated by yourself to carry out wishes that you specify. These can be things such as whom you would like to provide for, the guardians of your children if anything was to happen to you and your partner then your
children will be looked after and cared for by a guardian appointed by you. Your will even goes as far as to outline your wishes at your funeral. Your Will is just as important to keep it up to date. As families and relationships change, then if you have not up dated your will then upon your death whatever was recorded in your last will is deemed to be your wishes. Therefore the importance of keeping your Will up to date is immense – especially when it comes to naming guardians for children under 18. As your children are the most precious things you leave behind. It’s extremely important that you have an up-to-date Will that names a testamentary guardian for your children, in case something happens to both parents. Every adult should have an up-to-date Will it’s one of the most valuable legal documents you’ll have. If you pass away without a Will your loved ones may face difficulty sorting out your wishes and what happens may not be what you would want or expect. If there is no Will, the law determines how your estate is divided, and what happens to the people who depend on you, after you’re gone, which will be completely different to the wishes that you yourself hold. Therefore in order to make sure that this is adverted and your wishes are carried out then a Will is needed to protect your assets and investments. So this month make the effort and get yourself a Will or get your Will updated. by Gavin Arnet LAWYER | ARNET LAW
