A TEXTILE PRINT DESIGNER LYNSEY ANDERSON
DESIGNER STATEMENT Botanical Woodlands As a Textile Print Designer I work and experiment with a varied range of printing techniques and processes. I am inspired by the natural elements and aspects of the local woodlands and habitats, within my home village in rural Tyrone. My work explores the combination of both modern and traditional practices of digital and screen print, enabling me to create and test boundaries. Being a collector and documenter I gather primary sources and information, translating them from image to drawing. Sketching and drawing are my initial tools allowing me to visualise proportion, composition, colour and form. My work is based on the sensitivity of the marks and lines created and conveyed by the foliage, within the hidden woodlands. I am drawn to organic colours and fabrics, enabling me to dye all of my fabrics by hand as I want to preserve that natural trace. In my collection ‘Botanical Woodlands’ I embrace the marks and lines, along with the scale and composition of the floral foliage through observing, photographing, drawing and layering. I compose multiple elements, as well as using bespoke hand dyed natural linen, to recreate the intense depth and perception of the enchanted woodlands.

NATURAL AND ECO-DYEING
Collecting and experimenting with natural organic sources using eco-dyeing techniques. This process involves wrapping and steaming bundles to create original and innovative colours and textures.
COLLECT, RESEARCH AND DOCUMENT
Through gathering and documenting my findings allowed me to develop my ideas and techniques further, within the natural and eco-dyeing process.
IDEAS AND DEVELOPMENT
Primary development and research based on the sensitivity of the lines and marks created by the foliage hidden within the woodlands. This idea is demonstrated through my own style of painterly drawing.
DIGITAL PRINT
Developing my initial drawings into digital print, experimenting with colour, composition and scale.
SCREEN PRINT, PROCESS AND TECHNIQUE
Developing colour palettes by hand dyeing fabrics to produce shaded backgrounds for my co-ordinating key designs, along with using numerous screen-print techniques.
Various screen printing techniques and processes such as flocking, foiling and resist devore.
CONTEXT AND APPLICATION
Translating my screen and digital print ideas into application.
