COLLEGE IS NOT JUST ABOUT EARNING A DEGREE.

18 majors. 25 minors. Unlimited possibilities. Lyon provides an exceptional liberal arts education that enables our students to achieve inside and outside the classroom. One of the oldest colleges in Arkansas, we are proud of our historic and Scottish heritage, but we also boast distinguished faculty, our students’ academic success, small class sizes, a community atmosphere, and a stunning campus. But what exactly is a liberal arts education? It’s exposing you to the arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences. It’s a holistic approach that challenges your critical thinking and teaches a range of skills applicable to any career field. Maybe that's why 98% of Lyon students are employed or attending graduate school within six months of graduation. And according to recent ZIPPIA research, Lyon College produces the highest-earning graduates in the state of Arkansas.

One of the main pieces of advice I would give to incoming freshmen or any students at Lyon would be just to branch out. Lyon offers many different activities that you don’t know if you’re interested in until you try them. You could be interested in art, or biking, or anything really, and Lyon offers those opportunities to you. Maggie McNamara, ’18, graduated with her B.S. in Biology, minoring in Mathematics and Chemistry. While at Lyon, she played volleyball and was president of the recycling club.

60+ Clubs Want to get involved? Lyon is an educational collective of students, faculty, and staff wanting to learn and share in their interests. Faculty and staff often contribute to our clubs and organizations, so students enjoy camaraderie with not only their classmates but the entire campus community. From jazz band to disc golf, students can find a pursuit to complement their academic career.

The Great Outdoors. Love nature? At Lyon, you'll feel right at home in the foothills of the Ozarks. Our Lyon Education Adventure Program (LEAP) provides students with opportunities to experience nature on and off campus. On campus, students can scale the climbing grotto, glide across our zipline, travel the ropes course, ride or hike our 4.5 miles of mountain biking trails, and even raft across Bryan Lake. But when they want a change in scenery, students can take LEAP trips as far as a hike in the Grand Canyon or as close as a bike ride to the local froyo shop. Learn about your next adventure at lyon.edu/leap.

The Great Indoors. Want to stay inside? We’ve got you covered. Hang out with your friends in our game room, or visit the Morrow Academic Center (MAC) for some coffee. Work out in our cardio room or full access gym. Getting hungry? Stay up late with coffee at The Salty Dog or grab a snack from the Lyon Den.

Around town. Batesville is home to the historic and the contemporary. The oldest city in Arkansas, Batesville offers a peek into the past and a chance to appreciate a rich town history. Take a trip to historic downtown Main Street and enjoy local shops and restaurants, or visit the Old Independence Regional Museum, just a few blocks away. After heritage, move to the modern. Batesville recently added the Batesville Community Center & Aquatics Park to its map—the center has several pools, waterslides, a 25,000 square foot gymnasium, basketball courts, and much more. The Independence County Library, located on downtown Main Street, recently saw a remarkable renovation and dynamic technology developments. Visitors can now utilize a computer lab, gaming room, and even a LEGO table. Learn more at lyon.edu/around-town.
