PRESIDENT'S
Welcome
On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our beautiful Paramount Theatre and tonight’s performance. We have put together an amazing array of performances for the 2018-19 season for audiences of all ages. Last year was an incredible year for the Paramount. It was probably one of the most successful years in the theatre’s history. Unfortunately, we ended the year with a devastating crack in one of the roof trusses that forced us to close the theatre and cancel the last show of the season. Only through the tireless work of our architect, engineer, contractors and staff were we able to restore our treasured theatre back to its original glory and have “the old girl” ready for the season. This 100-year old theatre continues to be the centerpiece of our downtown area and is the cultural leader in Rutland because of your support. The generous support we receive from our corporate sponsors, individual members, in-kind donations and theatre-goers allow us to continue offering world-class entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for your continued support and enjoy tonight’s performance. I look forward to welcoming you back to the theatre throughout the season at future events. Sincerely,
Matt Levandowski President, Board of Directors

BRIEF
History
1912-1913 – The Playhouse Theatre was built by George T. Chaffee. 1914 – The Theatre opened on January 16. Top performers traveling via the Rutland Railroad between Montreal and Boston, would stop to perform in The Playhouse. 1931 – When “talking pictures” came to town, The Playhouse embraced the movie phenomenon, and as a motion picture theatre, was renamed The Paramount. Presentations alternated between “talkies” and vaudeville, until film finally supplanted live performance in popularity. 1950s-1960s – Activity continued and scores of Rutland residents, who later became prominent in business or politics, got their start as ushers or projectionists. 1970s – Like many small theatres across the country, The Movies, as the theatre was now known, paralleled the decline of the film industry, and closed its doors in 1975.

Design LYZ TOMSUDEN, www.lyztomsuden.com The Paramount Theatre Playbill ©2018 by The Paramount Center, Inc. Playbill Design © by Lyz Tomsuden.
1985 – The theatre sat empty and neglected for nearly a decade, until the Center on the Alley, Inc. was formed to purchase the theatre for use as a performing arts center. In 1985, the Paramount Theatre was mortgaged to the Paramount Center, Inc. and three years later the organization assumed ownership of the property. 1999 – John A. Russell Corporation was selected as the construction manager for the historic restoration, and construction began that spring. 2000 – The successful restoration of the Paramount Theatre was completed. Today – Once again, the Paramount Theatre has assumed its role as an arts, cultural, and educational leader, and as a significant and valuable community resource. We’re proud of what we have to offer and hope that you will support us in celebrating community and creativity.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2018 » 7:30PM FRIENDS! The Musical Parody is the hilarious new musical that lovingly lampoons TV’s Friends! You’ll laugh! You’ll cry! You’ll Unagi! FRIENDS! The Musical Parody celebrates and pokes fun at the wacky misadventures of a group of 20-something pals as they navigate the pitfalls of work, life, and love in 1990s Manhattan. It’s a seemingly typical day at New York’s only coffee shop, Central Perk, until an unexpected runaway bride with beautiful hair
enters the picture and kicks the whole gang out of second gear. This unauthorized parody of the hit TV show was created by Bob and Tobly McSmith, the duo that created five critically acclaimed musical parodies including Bayside! The Saved by the Bell Musical (NY Times Critics’ Pick).

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2019 » 8:00 PM The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. The group was born in December, 1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin. So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and they created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor.

In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom (“Don’t quit your day job!”), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded over 30 albums, including their latest, Make America Grin Again. They’ve been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard twice a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2019 » 7:30 PM Only a few artists in history have been capable of defining an entire era in pop music. Ronnie Spector is one of those artists: the embodiment of the heart, soul, and passion of female rock and roll in the 1960s. And to this day, no one has ever surpassed Ronnie’s powerful trademark vocals, her gutsy attitude, or her innocent but knowing sexuality. For these qualities and more, Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March 2007.

acclaimed Irish musicians John Elliott and Gerry Conlon and is performed by a 7 piece band. The performance centers on an original tale developed by Hannon drawn from Irish folklore—a tale of Kings and Queens, rebels and magic; epic battles between good and evil. They land on the island of Ishan where they encounter the Ishas, the indigenous community of the Murphy’s new home. As a HomeCare Elite Top 100 Home Health Agency, we are proud that our patients, their families, and market-leading reviews of Medicarecertified agencies rate us as one of the highest in quality of care and patient satisfaction.
How can we help you? You do have a choice when you or a loved one needs inhome nursing or hospice care.
