101 Million
People are Living with Stroke Aftermath
Can Architecture start to help lower these numbers??
Some studies are starting to highlight the importance of specialized units and layout of care facilities in aiding after care.
• In the U.S close to 800,000 people have a stroke per year.
• 20 Percent of those patients need 3 or more months of extended care.
800,000 New stroke patients per year*
• Of that 20 percent the majority of patients end up in unspecialized nursing homes.
• At home care has the best results but costs the most while nursing homes are the cheapest but patients have much less of a chance of leaving
• A stroke specific rehabilitation center can help to get more patients out of the hospital and back home with their families
20% of patients require +3 months of extended care*
*According to the CDC
