Phi losop hy . O bjec t iv e Hi! I’m Lavi, an urban design master student, and this is a selection of my most representative work over the last 5 years. I believe that as urban designers, we should create projects that challenge dogma. It is clear now that there is a new layer emerging, of social interaction over the ever changing city. I’m inspired by the increasing demand for human centered design around the re-arrange and re-use principles, as direct social confrontation has become a part of the urban design process. With experience in urban build form design, planning and architecture I am looking for rethinking urbanity in different ways, in a collaborative design environment. MAIN TASK
Project Nørrebro Switch deals with the design of a new metro station area, located in Nørrebro, West of Copenhagen. Nørrebro is characterized as a dynamic and multicultural district, whose inhabitants come from all over the world. The purpose of the project was to “challenge the box”, and by this challenge how traditional metro designs in Copenhagen are executed and how people perceive these places of movement. CONCEPT The concept is based on the metaphor of the switchboard, which means that the area is composed of many mechanical, social and functional switches, which generate impulses of flow of people and are connected in an efficient way.
INTRODU CTION TO THE SITE Instant hot spot Planned hot spot
The area around Nørrebro station is a functional and infrastructural node. The functions are dominated by residences and shops and the infrastructure is a chaotic knot of intersecting flows from S-trains, cars, busses, bikes and pedestrians. The vision is to create an area for Nørrebro station that function as a switch, by combining vertical layers of mobility . Furthermore the Nørrebro station area must be an area of transit and movement while still allowing space for friction and stay.
Main switch between modes of transportation Secondary switch
Switch:
A transition from one condition to another can be seen as a switch, it can work as an on-off switch or a more continuous transition, as a dimmer switch. The switch can be divided into 4 categories: Mobility
Mechanical
Each mobility mode constitutes a type of switch: bus stops, the car and bike parkings , the S-train station. TRANSPORT

THE MAIN ENTRANCE The main entrance of the metro station is located in the middle of the square. The users can reach the concourse level either by using the slopes next to Føtex or the main stairs. Some shops confer new alternatives to the commuter, who is able to buy goods on the journey, whereas the explorer has commercial interests for using the concourse level. The ribbons produce shades, which create a unique experience in the heart of the station.

The ribbons in the concourse and metro level, create the furniture for seating and relaxing. The ribbons appear from the floor, and their movement create a bench. The angle of the movement is essential for the function it creates. On the concourse level the benches are for sitting down, creating a social switch; on the metro level we keep it as a machinery of mobility and it is therefore furnished with the leaning rail.

LIGHT PLAN This plan shows the lighting system at the project site. During night time the lighting creates a different atmosphere, and in this way it functions as a switch of experience. The lights follow the ribbons in both the ceilings of the metro entrances and in the pavement. This makes the lights function as guide lines, which lead people to the entrances. The lights are also implemented in the ribbons in the ceiling of the concourse level, which are visible in the skylights. Along the streets are regular street lamps placed to lit up the roads.

Project Info Workshop : Urban Design Year and Institute : 2013 Institute of Architecture & Design Aalborg University Duration and site location: 3 weeks, Aarhus Collaboration with 1 team member ( role in project: mapping, concept development, vizualizations )
MAIN TASK The main focus in this project is a design proposal for developing urban areas into ‘experience city designs’. This includes development of ‘urban catalysts’ and ‘performative urban environments’, which can enhance a vibrant city life based on learning and cultural exchange. The task is to develop a concept detailed design for urban intervention in a selected area of Aarhus, Denmark. The emphasis is put on the role of architectural design in relation to cultural planning and the ability to create diverse and performative urban environments with architecture as tool.
Introduction to the site : Godsbanen area in Aarhus.
Godsbanen area is a territory in the heart of Aarhus city, which has been part of an old industrial area mainly used by the train company DSB for warehouses, workshops and old train stations. Last years, the municipality of Aarhus started to renovate and develop the neglected area: as the first step of this process, a transfomation of the old train station into multifunctional hybrid cultural centre. As a part of the rehabilitation of the area, there has been created a new temporary program called ‘Institute of X’, which aims to function as a catalist for cultural development and develops a variaty of programs where many young volunteers are practicing and improving their skills in music, handcrafts, gardening, architecture.
Shipping Container Student Housing The main concept of the project is re-using shipping containers for student housing. The area is devided on three layers - residential, cultural and hangout. The layers are separated functionally but not by location, since they are mixed in the area. Hangout areas are created between all residential clusters, on the open green areas as well as in the middle of the site. Part of the hangout layer are several performative architectural urban installations, inspired and created by reused local materials (containers, track slippers, pallets). These installations aim to bring adventure experience for the visitors and involve the local people, giving the opportunity to perceive the area in a new way.
Container module The student container housing is consisted by several clusters surrouding a common hangout area, as every cluster is created by five of the same type modules. The module is created by seven 12m containers, on three floors. Every floor is rotated in a different direction. The connection between all floors is through a circular staircase in the middle of the module.

Project Info Workshop : Form & Flow Year and Institute : 2012 Institute of Architecture & Design Aalborg University Duration and site location: 2 weeks, Copenhagen Collaboration with 4 team members ( role in project: concept development, model making, visualizations
MAIN TASK The workshop Form and Flow 2012 has the objective to strengthen our ability to design public spaces based on flow and mobility studies. The site is at Norrebro S-train station, and its main focus is to design an abstract way of connecting the 3 main mobility flow types: metro, S-train and ground level pedestrian movement.
SITE LOCATION
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
The Nørrebro station is a place of ex- The workshop is organized after the folchanges. lowing Flow design process: point, line, surface, volume.
First, it is connected to a lot of shops. From the platform of the station, everybody is able to reach a particular shop, such as a grocery or a restaurant. These kinds of shops are connected to the rest of the world themselves. For instance, the supermarket, Føtex, contains plenty of goods. These goods do not only come from Denmark. Some food come from the rest of the Europe, whereas electronic products come from China. So, only through the commercial chain, the station is in the heart of the connections and reflects the complexity of flows.
Model trials: finding new folding ways for roofing structure and stairs.

From this we started using different materials to make a structure on what we wanted to focus on in our design: mobility ways. As inspiration we looked on how the leafs of a lily flowe folds out, and how these “leafs could connect the different points on upper-, ground- and lowerlevel of our site, creating a connection between the S train to the metro station.

Project Info Workshop : Bachelor thesis project Year and Institute : 2012 Ion Mincu University of Architecture and UrbanismDuration and site location : 3 months, Geoagiu County, Romania I Individual project
MAIN TASK My bachelor thesis consisted of two main parts: First I had to create a startegy for developing Geoagiu county, a turism economy based area, and second, to chose one of the county’s settlements, in my case, Cigmau Village, and to create a development scenario. The architectural project had to be connected to this strategy.
Development strategy for Geoagiu County LOCATION IN ROMANIA
Introduction: The high concentration of roman camps and cities remains in Hunedoara County, one of the most historical in Romania led me to the development of a development strategy based on turism. A key point in Hunedoara is the Geoagiu area, where the roman resort Geoagiu Baths attracts thousands of turists every year. In 2007, near Cigmau Village, part of Geoagiu area, the remains of the roman army camp Germisara were discovered., therefore the second part of this project is the archeolegical museum I have proposed in Cigmau.
