Victorian Hats Authentic Victorian Style hats John Martin Harvey
Going o from the same style of my last collection, I want to explore Victorian hats and bonnets. Described as intricate appliquÊs and decorations. Structured and decorated
Modernising Victorian style hats To defer from my main collection however, I want to completely go left ďŹ eld and focus more on the abstract shapes and apliquĂŠs. I want to keep the feeling of sambre and echos of the memento mori of my main collection but make it a bit more appealing to a more commercial market

Modern hat makers
Basic understanding of making a hat Find a shape to mold the head hole
Use a stiffening fabric as a base for strength
Steam the cut out to desired shape
Cut off excess use a pencil to mark it
Pin the inside to not allow the shape to move
Pin down the new opening and cut the edge to allow flexibility
Steam the felt to fit the shape as well
Apply same method as previous steps for the shape over the cranium
Use heavy duty fabric glue or any adhesive
Cut out hole shape of the top to fit perfectly flush with the shape of the “body”
Place the felt piece over the reinforcement over and let sit for while until completely stuck together
Crown the boarder of the hat with the body of the hat and stitch them together
Cut off the excess felt and then stitch the ends together for seamless finish
Add any decorations on top
II want the same sambre feeling of my original collection but dissect the shapes from them and forms
