Good memory is truly important for anyone to possess. Your memory of faces, names, facts, information, dates, events, circumstances and other things concerning your everyday life is the measure of your ability to prevail in today’s fast-paced, information-dependent society. With a good memory, you don’t have to fear forgetting important stuffs and you can overcome mental barriers that hinder you from achieving success in your career, love life, and personal life. Therefore, I decided to compile a list of the best memory improvement books that will help anyone to utilise one's memory in the best way. They are put in random order and are selected to satisfy as large group of people as possible.
Dominic O'brien is the eighth time world memory champion and one of the best known mnemonists worldwide. In 2002 he had an entry in the Guinness World Records book for correctly reciting 2808 playing cards in a row with looking at each only once. In his book "Quantum Memory Power" he shows how he did that by using a so called Roman Room technique. He also teaches how to recall enormous sequences of numbers by associating them with people's faces. Although it takes a bit of time at first to put those techniques to work, the great part is that you don't need to learn anything twice. I would recommend this book to everyone who's having difficulties trying to remember birthdays, people's names, telephone numbers, important dates and, of course, especially for those who are learning a foreign language, since this topic is included as well. Tony Buzan is one of the most prominent authors in the field of memory improvement. He's written a great deal of books on speed reading, mnemonic techniques and similar topics for improving one's brain power. However, he's probably best known for creating a unique mnemonic system called Mind Mapping (see the picture below). Mind Maps, simply put, are diagrams used to create and classify ideas by linking certain keywords. If used properly, they can increase the amount of information absorbed tens of times. Therefore, they are extremely useful in studies, problem solving, brainstorming and other mental-related work. Apart from that, this method also develops creativity, as it encompasses left brain hemisphere which is responsible for creative thinking. In this book Buzan teaches the very basics of Mind Mapping and shows how it can be applied in various ways, for instance, language learning. With Mind Maps it is possible to literally learn several hundred foreign language words a day without having to repeat them all the time. I would definitely recommend this book for students and for those whose work is closely bound to intense mental work. To find out more Click here.
The book includes all the basic memory improvement techniques from linking to Roman Room. Those techniques can be applied to remember 10, 20 or more objects in a row or to learn foreign vocabulary. Of course, those methods require some time to learn but once they are mastered, they are a great alleviator in everyday life. I wouldn't recommend this book for advanced learners, though because the techniques covered in this book are nothing new and they can be found in other books as well. However, for a complete newbie, this books is a powerful manual with all memory improvement techniques in one place. Click here to find out more.
This is an excellent book for those who are wondering how to improve concentration and memory as well. Although it was written more than 20 years ago, the methods covered in it are more applicable now than anytime before, since in today's fast-moving world the ability to concentrate is of an immense significance for everyone who wants and needs to improve their productivity. I won't deny the fact that tips and techniques presented in this book are pretty difficult, as they are all based on mental exercises. However, once they are mastered, the reward is huge. In fact, let's admit that there is actually no easy way to learn to concentrate. It requires time and effort. I wouldn't recommend this book for those who are searching for a quick way to improve concentration, since the techniques in this book need to be repeated on a regular basis. However, for those who are truly determined to learn the art of concentration, this book is a must. Click here to find out more.
This book is probably the most entertaining and the most easy-to-digest in this list. Corinne Gediman offers a nine week course with lots of different exercises on how to improve memory and concentration. The great thing about this book is that the exercises are really fun and, therefore, even though they need to be done day in and day out, the routine doesn't get boring. Another great fact is that it only requires 10-15 minutes a day, thus practically anyone can find time for it. I would recommend this book to everyone who doesn't have time but wants to improve their memory. Click here to find out more.
