Odin Wear manufactures and markets functional and protective layer wear. The base and mid layer collections combine advanced constructions and high-tech fabrics to ensures the best body temperature for optimal performance in all conditions, indoor as well as outdoor.

The collections protect the wearer against cold, heat and flames, promoting a constant sense of physical well-being. The motivating factors for selecting the right layer wear should be influenced by the clothing functions, the physical activity level and weather conditions.

THE LAYER PRINCIPLE Our product philosophy is based on the layer principle

Clothing is used to create an environment surrounding your body that allows you to continue to function and stay comfortable. Your clothing should protect your body and help maintain its optimal temperature even when the outside conditions are very cold, very hot or very wet.

The basic thought is that you want to sweat as little as possible and stay dry as much as possible. To generate this your clothing must transport moisture away from the skin, hold dry warm air close to the body and keep rain and snow out. The three-layersystem enables you to regulate your body temperature yourself by taking off or putting on garments as changing weather or intensity of work demand.

THE THREE-LAYER-SYSTEM Layer 1 - Base Layer Layer 1 clothing keeps you both warm in the cold, cool in the heat and dry all year around. It transports moisture away from the skin and distributes it on the outside of the garment, where it either evaporates or is passed on to the next layer. Bodywear is the first or inner layer of clothing you wear. It is designed to be worn next to the skin as a moisture wicking base layer. For optimal performance and comfort, it should always be worn underneath your outer layers or by itself, regardless of weather conditions. Base layer garments come in a variety of fabrics with multiple purposes.

Layer 2 - Mid Layer Layer 2 clothing helps you retain heat by trapping air close to your body. It provides insulation and warmth while transporting moisture and excess heat to the next layer or into the surrounding air. Insulation wear is the second or middle layer of clothing you wear. It is designed to be worn over the base layer and underneath the outer layer, or by itself on chilly days. The thicker or loftier the layer is, the greater its heat retaining and moisture transport abilities. Mid layer garments come in a variety of fabrics with multiple purposes.

Layer 3 - Outer Layer Layer 3 clothing protects you from wind, rain and cold. At the same time it allows surplus heat and moisture from the layers underneath to continue its way from the body into the outside world. Shell wear is the third or outer layer of clothing you wear. It is designed to be worn over the base and/or mid layer. For optimal performance and comfort, it should be roomy enough to fit over the other layers and not restrict your movement. Outer layer garments come in a variety of fabrics with multiple purposes.

BASE LAYER COOL - KEY LINE Keeps the body cool & dry Thin, lightweight functional bodywear for any kind of physical activity in warm indoor or outdoor conditions. THERMOCOOL® fibre provides duo-regulation designed to keep wearers in their comfort zone across different temperature changes and activity levels. The fabric helps you to be warm when you feel cold and cool when you feel hot. This base layer is designed to be worn next to the skin, either underneath outer layers or by itself.

Hygiene and freshness technology The SILVERPLUS® finish protects textiles from unpleasant body odours. This biocidal product for hygiene and freshness uses the power of silver to bring long-lasting antibacterial properties to garments. The technology is eco-friendly and conforms to bluesign® and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

UV protection This clothing is designed to offer protection against solar ultraviolet radiation exposure (UVA and UVB). The UPF measured is >15, meaning it offers good UV protection as up to 96% of the harmful UV-radiation is blocked by the fabric. Note: Only covered parts of the body are protected. Take care of protection for other parts of the body (e.g. by wearing a hat and/ or using sun milk).

This clothing is designed to offer protection against solar ultraviolet radiation exposure (UVA and UVB). The UPF measured is >50. MID LAYER WARM Keeps the body warm & dry The mid layer has two tasks: to keep you warm and transport moisture and excess heat away from the body to the next layer or into the surrounding air. The mid layer should be more loose and voluminous than the base layer as it needs to form an airspace between the base layer and the outer layer. Pile, fleece and softshell are the best all-round insulators for layering in fair and cold conditions. These fabrics provide good insulation even when wet, absorb very little moisture and dry quickly. The mid layers are designed to be worn over the base layer and beneath the outer layer, or as stand-alone jackets on chilly days.

Warm pile Warm functional pile for any kind of physical activity in fair and cold conditions. It features advanced ergonomics for ease of movement, exceptional ventilation and excellent moisture transport properties. At the same time it insulates against cold, keeping the body warm and thermo-regulated.

Warm fleece Warm functional fleece for intensive physical exertion or stopand-go activities in fair and cold conditions. Flame retardant and antistatic according to EN ISO 11612:2008 and EN 1149-5:2008 The safe base layer collection has been designed according to the PPE Directive 89/686/EEC and specifically to the European Standards EN ISO 13688:2013 (General Requirements for protective clothing) as well as EN ISO 11612:2008 (protective clothing for industrial workers exposed to heat) A1 (surface ignition), B1 (convective heat), C1 (radiant heat) and EN 11495:2008 (electrostatic properties - part 5: material performance and design requirements). Note: FR-AS bodywear should always be worn under outerwear with at least the same antistatic and heat/flame resistant protective performance levels. For a complete protection you will need to wear additional personal protective equipment for your hands, feet and face.

CE MARKING OF PROTECTIVE CLOTHING European Council Directive 89/686/EEC Personal Protective Clothing (PPE) is considered to be any device or appliance designed to be worn or held by an individual for protection against one or more safety hazards. In Europe, placing PPE products on the market is regulated by the PPE Directive (89/686/EEC). This applies to most safety products intended for use in domestic, leisure and sports activities, as well as for professional use. The PPE Directive covers the manufacture and marketing of personal protective equipment. It defines legal obligations to ensure that PPE on the European market provides the highest level of protection against hazards. The CE marking affixed to PPE provides evidence of this protection.

PPE Categories As the scope of the PPE Directive includes such a wide range of products - from those protecting against minor hazards (for example, gardening gloves) right through to items which protect against life threatening hazards (such as fall arrest harnesses) it divides them into three categories. These are based on the risk, consequences and severity of injury likely to occur to someone not wearing or using adequate PPE. The procedures for demonstrating compliance, and the involvement of a Notified Body, differ for each category: Category I (“simple design”): PPE defined by an exhaustive list. The manufacturer declares conformity by means of an EC declaration of conformity only; Category II (neither simple nor complex): PPE not defined are subject to an EC type-examination by a Notified Body and an EC declaration of conformity is then produced; Category III (“complex design”): PPE defined by an exhaustive list are subjected to EC type-examination and to one of the two Quality Assurance procedures. An EC declaration of conformity is produced.

New PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 As of 21 April 2018, Directive 89/686/EEC will be repealed by the new Regulation (EU) 2016/425 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 on personal protective equipment. The new PPE Regulation is aligned to the New Legislative Framework policy. In addition, it slightly modifies the scope and the risk categorisation of products.

EUROPEAN HARMONISED STANDARDS The PPE Directive (89/686/EEC) is a general piece of legislation, including health and safety requirements, which need to be taken into account for all types of PPE. However, it does not describe or detail how particular types of product need to be tested. Hence, to support the directive, the European standards organisation CEN has been mandated to develop various product safety standards. CEN has convened a number of technical committees in order to develop a series of harmonised European standards to be used in the testing and certification of PPE. Odin Wear has tested its garments according to the following European harmonised PPE standards:

EN ISO 11612:2008 Protective clothing - Clothing to protect against heat and flame The performance requirements set out in EN ISO 11612:2008 are applicable to garments which could be worn for a wide range of end uses, where there is a need for clothing with limited flame spread properties and where the user can be exposed to radiant or convective or contact heat or to molten metal splashes.

EN 1149-5:2008 Protective clothing - Electrostatic properties Part 5: Material performance and design requirements EN 1149-5 is part of a series of standards for test methods and requirements for electrostatic properties of protective clothing. The standard specifies material and design requirements for electrostatic dissipative protective clothing. It covers clothing used as part of a total earthed system, to avoid incendiary discharges. The requirements may not be sufficient in oxygen enriched flammable atmospheres. This standard does not apply to protection against mains voltages.

EN 13758-2:2003+A1:2006 Textiles - Solar UV protective properties Part 2: Classification and marking of apparel The first part of the standard (EN 13758-1) deals with all details of test methods (e.g. spectrophotometric measurements) for textile materials and part 2 (EN 13758-2) covers classification and marking of apparel textiles. UV-protective cloths for which compliance with this standard is claimed must fulfil all stringent instructions of testing, classification and marking, including a UV protection factor (UPF) larger than 40 (UPF 40+), average UVA transmission lower than 5%, and design requirements as specified in part 2 of the standard.
