The proposal plans to solve all the functional requirements of a museum, making the most of the circulations, the sustainability and integration of the building in its environment and at the same time creating a recognizable icon, a representative building worthy of the importance of the museum, The formal and constructive references will come from the environment, native materials, the landscape and the scale of the existing buildings.

COMPACT VERSION A single volume becomes discordant in the composition, unbalancing the group, going above the height of the mansion and the trees.

BREAKING THE SCALE The connection between these “packets” of the programme is problematic. The routes prevent the correct functioning of the building.

FUNCTIONAL SCALE “Compacting” the building and maintaining the fragmented scale which we are looking for and improving the routes.

POND

RESPECTING GREEN AREAS The chosen site respects practically all the existing woodland, minimizing the number of trees to be eliminated within the possibilities that allow the construction of a building on this scale and functional complexity.funcional.

MAIN VIEWS It will be possible to enjoy the views which the hill offers towards the lake, generating a skyline next to the existing building, but without modifying its character.

EASY CONNECTIONS We establish a direct simple connection between the exhibition spaces of the two buildings. A new image at the entrance. Visitors arrival and easy loading and unloading.

PROGRAMME Spaces are dimensioned to see the proportions and to study the connections.

REGROUPING I All the programmes must revolve around the Foyer

PRIVATE

REGROUPING II The programme are grouped together due to the connection between them and the level of “ privacity”.

OPTIMAL DIMENSIONS The dimensions of the programmes should be readjusted so that the rooms have the correct proportion for distribution, ilumination, structure, etc.

EQUALIZER The strips should be repositioned, equalized to adapt the connections between them to the programmes these house.

NEW ACCESS Programatic “strips” slide among each other to generate the exterior spaces

TOPOGRAPHY ADAPTATION Each part of the programme places carefully at the right contour line to find its natural position in the hill.

HEIGHTS Besides adapting the proportions of each “strip” of programme on the plans we must give each programme its height.

ROOF ADAPTION The roofs will be adapted to the climate and will be slanting to allow the correct evacuation of rain and snow. To create a more characteristic profile, modern and iconic we decided to do a reinterpretation of the traditional roof

EXHIBITIONINDIRECT FOYERDIRECT

STRUCTURE Laminated timber beams will be used for the whole structure of the building. Fast erection, Enviromentally friendly, sustainable material, vast interrupted spans and energy efficient are some of its qualities.

VIEWS Large spaces are created like visual escape routes and frames for the landscape at the ends of the “strips”. These openings allow us to have views of the lake.

SKYLIGHTS Spaces in the roof are created Skylights which allow us to illuminate in a homogenous way the exposition rooms and the foyer. In the rooms the zenithal light will be filtered so it does not shine directly in the interior
