The aim of this work was to translate visual images from any food related video into a functional product for the gastronomic environment. The selected video for this project was "El Bulli. Historia de un sueĂąo" from Ferran AdriĂĄ which showed how the cooks in the restaurant worked and the methods used to create such innovative menus.

Reinterpretation Project

research phase Undersanding the message of hard work, joined to creativity and innovative ideas under a crazy work environment were the aspects that motivated me to choose the video as an example. The documentary reveals that every aspect of the process is in perfect symphony thanks to the passion that everyone puts in their work.

01

Even the dishware adapts to each piece of food placed on it, making the food look important and heavy, getting all the atention. This idea inspired me to develope the project adapting the product to the ingredients and not otherwise.

01 DETERMINATION

02 KNOWLEDGE

First of all, the sensations and impressions extracted from the video were listed. Then this list was taken to a technical level which determined the atributes that the new product should have from an idealistic point of view.

The second phase consisted on listening to the client's needs and obtaining the specifications imposed by the actions developed when cooking.

DETERMINATION KNOWLEDGE DEFINITION

Once all the specifications were proposed, the definition phase started with several concepts and ended with the most suitable one.

innovation challenge Aerogrow. Description

The product is automatic: it detects the chamber's humidity, temperature and oxigen, the emptiness of the deposit and the period of time of each plant's growth depending on the date of placing the seed. When the plants need water or nutrients it sprays their roots. This system consumes much less water than others (hidroponic or land) and the roots are surrounded by a higher volume of oxigen allowing them to grow faster and denser. First of all the user puts the roots in the sponge beneath the top of the Aerogrow. The next step is configuring which plants are going to be growing thanks to the screen on the right. This way the device will be able to monitor them and send reports to an app on the user's smartphone.

DESIGN APPROACH This project consisted on designing a new product by an action, which in this case was to make a shadow. Therefore the functionality of the new product was already defined challenging our design methods to approach a formal solution form another perspective. My starting point was to define what a shadow was in many different aspects such as physically, visually, technically, etc. The second phase presented a conceptual map with all the related properties of a shadow: settlement, perception, functionality, composition...

The final phase conluded which meaning of shadow was going to be used to develop a product. The most interesting one was the definition of shadow as the zone were light was not able to reach. After asking myself many questions, the key of this issue was: how to decide when to be reached by the damaging waves of the sun?

final product

This developed in gas research, specifically ozone, which is the one that protects us form UV rays.

For this reason I decided to design a product which created an Ozon athmosphere around you avoiding sun creams and other cosmetics.

How does it work

The waste compactor based on artificial muscles technology connected to a waste disposal destroys and extracts the liquids from the organic waste making a packed sausage of garbage. Reducing the volume implies decreasing the recolection and improves its management.

The muscle starts to work extracting the fluids and reducing the volume. Once the compactor is done, the muscle thanks to its peristaltic movement pushes the waste into a biodegradable polymer. This fact makes it easier to recolect and reuse, decreasing the carbon footprint due to transportation and overloaded landfills.

The purpose of this project was to redesign a coffe maker so it would become a more sustainable product. This coffee maker was designed the year before so we could challenge our own design and upgrade it taking into account other aspects of the whole process.

By studying the parameters related to the life cycle analysis of the product, several changes were able to set up to lowe the most significant and contaminating values.

After

Before

Substitution of PVC for PLA in the parts of the product which are not in contact with high temperatures. Also replace PVC for PP in the pieces that stay in contact with heat.

Decreasing the use of material to reduce the weight of the product. This fact has been prooved to minimize the distribution problems related to polluting emissions.

Use of organic pigments that do not contain toxic elements as metals improve the values in the fabrication and the end phases of the product's life cycle.

BRAND DESIGN This was a self driven project in which I have worked for this last year. My proposition of designing the brand of the company I work for was one of the first of my objectives. Here I show the design method applied and the positive results of the project. As I work for a corporation, the change was made for the 4 companies.

OLD DESIGNS

Corporation based on Social Resposibility politics, integrating disabled people in the work market. Company dedicated to logistics, packaging and sleeve lables.

Thermofomed and blister packs manufacturer that encourages biopolymer solutions.

New design applied to bussiness cards

Brand Design

01

First of all, to prioritise the name of the corporation the use of capital letters was recommended to give the design a new important, elegant and strong flair. The symbol was mantained as it is already a reference for the corporation. The chosen colour embraces a more kind, closer and joyful message.

PAPER WORK The design follows a minimalist aesthetic presenting all the information in order. The symbol stands out making it easily visible.

ROLL UPS (Print) This 3 proposals for events were designed for the company. Values as trust, flexibility and social responsibility were communicated through the designs.

Brand Design

02

This company works in logistics, packaging, copacking, and other fast paced processes. Due to this fact, changing the colour into orange which is energetic, dynamic and strong was very appropriate. Moreover, the two parts of the name are clearly distinguished making the orange pop out catching all the atention. The chosen typography expresses order, continuity, power and presence.

BLISTER PACK CATALOGUE This catalogue unites all the blister pack designs for the wine market.

Presentation Cards (Soft touch finish)

CERTIFICATES The certificates were given at the end of each "Food Management Course" made by the workers.

Brand Design

03

The old design didn't reflect the technical background of the company so that was the aim of the new proposal keeping in mind the sustainability aspect. The typography is in this case more neat and geometrical introducing this way the idea of functionality, engineering and technology. Both colours were also changed, giving the logo a balance between the distant and rational grey and the ecofriendly green.

The catalog was designed to show all the products and proyects developed through the last years. The main activities are design and manufacture of thermoformed packaging and sustainable materials research. For this reason the catalog's design communicates order, technical background and has a minimalist flair.

PRESENTATION CARDS

Yellow box containing the 24 beer bottles and the designed cardboard top.

packaging DESIGN The client (Moritz Beers) needed solutions for selling the box of 24 bottles at a time instead of allowing the customers to take them separately. The proposed idea was to create a cardboard top with a flap system that once you pushed it down it was not possible to pull it up. This way the box would be kept safetly closed compelling the customer to buy the box as a unit.
