What can I say about Cuba that hasn’t been said yet? I could bore the hell out of you by telling you about the country’s history, it’s colonisation, the communist party, the cold war, the United States embargo, the myth of the Castro family, their breathtaking landscapes, the old cars, the beautiful women, rum & cigars stories or their rich music culture. The list goes on and on … Fact is that nowadays with globalisation, consumerism and people connected 24/7, places with that authentic vibe are getting harder & harder to find and all countries are starting to feel and look the same. Cuba still has that real, raw and honest feel to it. However, when I visited the country last year, it felt like things were changing at a very fast pace and yet another chapter of this time capsule called república de Cuba was coming to an end. So without further ado, here is my visual diary of this inspiring island in the Caribbean Sea entitled «Fin de Siglo».
Filip Zuan Filip Zuan is a sports and outdoors photographer based in the Engadine Valley, in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Since an early age, Filip was naturally attracted to photography and always had a camera in tow – it quickly evolved into his main passion. Sports, people, lifestyle and travel subjects layer his main work. His home turf is one huge outdoor playground, intensely reflected in Filip`s persona, vision and work. Nevertheless, Filip is no stranger to the urban cityscapes – he lived in Barcelona in the early millennium to pursue his love for skateboarding and photography.
Ever since then, his drive for travelling, discovering new cultures and adventures has taken him around the globe. Filip is always on the quest to document timeless and untold stories and portray the people behind them. His background as a graphic designer/art director and his deeply rooted love for the printed matter led up to two self-published books and various photo exhibitions. From personal projects to commercial assignments, he always focuses on the big picture, pushing the limits with a raw, clear and honest approach.
